Ok, take it from me, kids. Don't type and laugh, or you'll end up typing 100erfect instead of 100% perfect (onehundred percent perfect, did I get it right this time?)

> What is useful is the fact that its AIncs branding scheme,
True.
> AIncs contracted out development scheme and it is a joint project.
Not true. Amiga Inc have no control or input into either AmigaOneG3 or AmigaOS4. Both projects are licensed from Amiga Inc so that they can use the Amiga brand and some IP, but neither will result in products that are owned by Amiga Inc., so you can't talk about "contracted out" development. AI have no financial investment in either of these products whatsoever, so they don't control the products themselves.
Amiga Inc *DO* have control over the scope of their licensing, so they can and will prohibit Hyperion from supporting bPlan hardware until the latter abandon their MorphOS project.

Just being pedantic, but Ben said he has 30 developers working on AOS4. When questioned, he agreed that this meant 30 developers were contributing code to AOS4. That's not the same thing, nor does it mean Ben has *hired* 30 developers to work on AOS4.
</pedant>

_completely frigging excactly_. So why the fuck is it so bad that other bits are contributed before the kernel is all done? Isn't that a good sign? Doesn't that mean some of those extra developers are actually _developing_?

In reply to Comment 257 (Ole-Egil Hvitmyren):
I hope that wasn't aimed at me, 'coz I never said it was a bad thing to develop various parts before the kernel is finished. It's not like there's a choice.
OTOH, it's hard to give any credibility to any proposed completion dates until that kernel is ready. Kernels can be tricky things to get right (see how long it took the FSF to produce a functional HURD), and there will be a certain amount of work - not to mention beta testing - to be done *after* the kernel is ready, none of which can be done satisfactority until then.

In reply to Comment 258 (Bill Hoggett):
No, it wasn't aimed at you. But see here: If you first make a kernel, then test that for a year, _then_ look around to see if there maybe something to this OS thingie you forgot, you'll miss out. If you take 30 people, 25 of whom are not working only on this, but they contribute, and let them develop different things while the core group develops the kernel, you'll be heading in the right direction. For sure. But Kronos seems to think this is so very very bad. I don't get his points at all. If you aren't allowed to develop more than one executable at a time, surely you can't expect to finish any big projects? But maybe that's Kronos' agenda, stop AmigaOS from going PPC at any cost ;)

I think I deserve the last word on this ;)
No problems with doing bit and pieces parallel
to the kernel, just a problem with people
(not Hyperion) claiming the OS would be almost
finished when they only saw the sreenshots, but
the kernel isn't even capable of running much
more then itself.

Ah, so your problem isn't with Hyperion or AOS4, it's with the fanatics? Then we agree!!! My problem isn't with MorphOS or bPlan, it's the damn fanatics that seem to be all around us. But see, in my book you are a MOS fanatic, cause of the way you put down AOS every chance you get, and glorify MOS every other chance you get. In your book I expect to have gained AOS-fanatic status by now, but I'm actually proud to be an Amiga fanatic. I've been in love with the OS for 13 years now, you can't expect me to just jump ship now, can you? I'm in it for the "feel", not the "look". exec.library so truly does it for me.

I totaly agree with you Ole :o)
I realy look forward to see the magic of AmigaOS 4.0 :o)
I have no problem with MorphOS/bPlan, but I have a problem with the "always" negative replies of for exsample "Kronos"!!!
I'm sure Bill and the other developers of Hyperion Software are making a good "port" of our beloved AmigaOS :o) (They are using their own money, so why should they make a crap Operating System?)
I also look forward to get the news "it's finished", but I want them to make us the OS we want and nok a premature version (like Win98 was!)

>>bplan does not let DCE support Hyperion in the development of OS4 for BPPC and
>>for GREX
> DCE hasn't heard from Hyperion since last November. On the other hand Hyperion
> spreads rumours about DCE (Grex drivers etc.)
> BTW: Quoting morphos.de:
> "Q: Will MorphOS run on the announced Eyetech's PPC Hardware?
> A: We haven't got any specs and we don't expect to get any."
This goes both ways. We've tried contacting DCE about getting a Grex driver dev kit for our
Radeon drivers. After months of emailing various DCE addresses, one guy wrote back saying
to contact Frank Mariak who controls the Grex dev kit. The given email bounced back, and
further requests to that DCE guy for a working email to Frank went unanswered, and eventually
we gave up. I personally at this point do not expect to ever hear from DCE again, and thus
unfortunately don't have much faith in Radeon on Grex being possible, due to the
political climate in this Amiga market today. I really hate politics... I don't consider myself
to personally be on any "side" of this political issue, and am willing to support whatever
platform allows me to do so. Currently I am prevented from writing drivers for
Grex, Pegasos, and Morphos as "they" apparently have some political agenda in place
and won't even talk to people outside their group "chosen ones".
So please realize, even if the Q/A above is a true situation, they are equally guilty
of the exact same thing, by preventing people from supporting Grex.

If so, It's strange that you use the term 'COS4' also for the
eventually-to-be-sold, finished product (whose looks you know nothing
about) and not only for the current status seen in the screenshots.
I would like to call it childish and simplistic, but then I'd
repeat myself.
But since after all, attention is what you crave with this, I suppose that
Ben noticing has made you quite satisfied.

Ouch!
I didn't get jazzbench to work, neither scalos nor morphos on my neighbours A1200BlizzardPPC.
I failed to get Linux working properly for nearly a year till I heard of the missing X86config file in
Debian linux2.0 . Fusion took up some MB on my HD's for half a year, same as PCTask.
As long as I kitty can only install AmigaOS with my paws I will do so.
Windows belongs to a PC or bochs under Linux.
By the way it was nice to see windows multitask (Well, several Linux shells running Bochs) on our Viking mobo in the company.

Hewwo Mr. Herman!
Fetch a dipl.Ing (engineer) with a logicanalyzer.
I had a long look at the GREX dabo and the Prometheus.
Maybe y'all are looking at the wrong point, as the Prometheus has quite straight
datalines running with the comparably low speed of the Z3 bus, whilst the GRex runs
at significantly higher clocking and has a complex routing...
Ever thought about the signalflanks being malformed or having timing problems?
We had a brand new rackmount 100MBit tp switch that behaved quirky. We recently got
ferrite-glue-ons our techwizards glued over the datalines and since then it runs smoothly.
just a salespersons thoughts

Naaaaa! bPlan are not nerds or megalomaniac. But what you said is right that theyll go for the Industry.
There are several companies breaking away silently from the Wintel market, and they will need
a mobo that is reliable and bulletproof compatible and.. STABLE!
And so what to use as HW for Linux?
Most x86 mobos have compatibility issues or you have that ugly "Winsucks approved" label on them.
Plus, you're always in danger with a fan dying, roasting your mobo and server, too.
So there bplan might find the market between IBM Heracles 8/4 G4 server mobo and a numb terminal.

In reply to Comment 265 (Bill Toner):
This situation remembers me of what I had a year ago:
I needed to reach a customer, so I mailed their office and asked for the email-address of the person I wanted to inform of
his items arrived.
I wrote the email to the address, but only got a "not available, write again tomorrow."
So I did for one week, than gave up. Contacting the office and telling them, they stated that they can#t give out phonenumbers or other personalities of their guys.
So, what to do?
So I wrote an email and gave them my email and asked them to give it to their techwizard.
After a month I accidently stumbled over the guy in a chatroom where he harrassed in that moment my company for not reacting and whatever...
Well, we talked and finally found that the office wrote down my email address with a quirk, and he had been in holidays the week I tried to reach him. one day later and it would have worked.
Little reason, large effect.
