Posted by alan buxey on 29-May-2002 09:25 GMT | ...the funny thing is, i really didnt have to
use the babelfish to translate this interview either
...all the new important information pretty much leapt
out from the web page... MesaGL 4, new font engine,
divX support (with new datatypes....i thought
this wasnt until 4.1??) , XML support, full roadmap
plans to OS 5.x, ...and OpusII magellen seems to be
an optional addon. i wonder if we should have
AmigaOS 4 home
AmigaOS 4 pro

Posted by Anonymous on 29-May-2002 10:12 GMT | I draw attention to the caption to the photo which says they got their new hardware in April. Maybe those who have been so noisy in their opinions and "proof" that the boards do not exist or will not be shipped yet can please now shut up. |

> Here is altavista's translation to english:
I couldn't get the link to work & my grasp of German gets worse wit every passing year.
I thought it said something about being in talks with bPlan? Or is my Deutsch worse than I thought?
Liked the screenshots, too.
Cheers,

Posted by Anonymous on 29-May-2002 12:32 GMT | Please don't call it MesaGL. That is not its name, just because Amigans are universally ignorant of copyright and trademark law doesn't mean you can't follow simple instructions from the author of the software. |

Please do not refer to the library as MesaGL (for legal reasons). It's just Mesa or The Mesa 3-D graphics library.
* OpenGL is a trademark of Silicon Graphics Incorporated.

Posted by z5 on 29-May-2002 13:45 GMT | I for one believe in the project. I hope OS4.0 is the first step in the rebirth of the best Operating system ever. And i hope Hyperion are able to build a good foundation for the future. Because this is just what OS4.0 is about. Building a good foundation on modern hardware. People will get excited again if it's good. And then the fun stuff starts, making it better with every new OS update. Adding modern features...seeing it growing and becoming better.
At least give them a chance.
Such work takes time, after all, microsoft is working for how long now on their OS with how many developers? And it still sucks.
Go for it, Hyperion!!!!!!!!!! |

Anyway, nice to see the mesa homepage refer to warp3d for amiga support :) |

Posted by Chris Kelley on 29-May-2002 16:42 GMT | In reply to Comment 21 (Henning Nielsen Lund): SGI is pretty anal about the use of the abreviation "GL". Here are their guidelines for using the OpenGL logo's and trademarks in print:
http://www.sgi.com/software/opengl/license.html
I think the Mesa project ran into some problems a few years ago when they called themselves MesaGL. That's why the Mesa folks included the disclaimer in their documentation. |

Posted by CubiQue on 29-May-2002 19:09 GMT | In reply to Comment 23 (Crumb): Noone mentioned moovid to be bundled with the OS or anything alike. It breaks down to datatypes and codes, so I hope they'll not ship the OS with crippled datatypes. OTOH we already have shareware datatypes for some formats... mmmmh, maybe...
I dunno at all, forget it :) |

I know, I call it Mesa** too, but we may not call it the GL thing!!!
I don't want "Mesa 3d" to get any problems with "sgi"!!! |

Posted by StillPeeved. on 29-May-2002 22:57 GMT | Again... Enough with the bloody stupid nitpicking over a friging name... Who gives a shit. Can't you just be happy to see the progress, to think "hey, we really are gonna get something new here"...
Pull in your heads and stop talking crap about naming conventions..
Shees... I'd sware you lot don't want a new OS/hardware. Just new reasons to bitch and whinge.
Please. If the ONLY reason you are still active in the Amiga Community is because it fullfils your need to be disappointed so you can then complain... Go somewhere else!
I for one am more than happy with the progress.. Please try and look at the positive side... |

Posted by Joe "Floid" Kanowitz on 30-May-2002 03:41 GMT | Looks interesting; haven't had a chance to read the full translation yet. Cute way of handling 'dockdrawers.'
UI gripe of the day: The 'dialer' window in http://www.amiga-magazin.de/magazin/a06-02/amigaos4/os4_5.jpg admonishes the user to use the proper programs, but doesn't say what/where they are. If all it'll actually do is launch the right utility for the task, why not acknowledge it and clue the user on the alternate method?
Not a big deal, for sure. |

Posted by patrick on 01-Jun-2002 00:46 GMT | Dear Amiga Fanatics,
I been an Amiga user for over ten years. I love Amiga computers and the OS. To me Morphos dosen't even exist it's not Amiga OS. Just ignore Morphos and it's users and they will go away and go else where. Why should we even give a fuck what they say it's not Amiga. This is an Amiga site if you want them gone ignore them Please. I just don't wanna see these Morphing assholes anymore. We will get our Amigaone and OS4.0. Amiga has heritage something Morphos doesn't have. If we ignore them they we go away and feel alone. You can curse me to hell but I will just ignore you people something Amiga users should of done a long time ago. If Amiga users would have just done that long ago there would be no Morphos. Just ignore everything Morph because it's you the Amiga user giving Morph what it needs to thrive. The more we feed them the bigger they get. Oh, incase you Morph people say I need to get a life I do have a life. I'm married and expecting a baby on the way. I also I have a job and lots of friends but Amiga is my best friend. |
