Posted by Tony Gore on 08-Jun-2002 10:06 GMT | I like it...but would prefer that the boing ball be the same color as the lettering on the keys. (grey/white) It just stands out too much the way it is represented in the photo. Will these also have to be licensed by Amiga? (Not flamebait, just curiosity since it uses a trademarked logo) |

Posted by |Lando| on 08-Jun-2002 11:06 GMT | Hmm myeah, I'd prefer the slanted A too. Maybe you could produce two different types ? The boingball just looks really out of place there. It'd be better if it was smaller and the same colour as the rest of the keys. |

Posted by The_Editor on 08-Jun-2002 12:01 GMT | Well, is it the keymap I have selected? What the hell is 16,00 weird thing?
Good on em for going for Amiga branded stuff but I like my "Natural keyboard" shape !! (Dont tell anyone .... Its a M$ keyboard) Cost me £40 after I spilt coffee on the last one ... Doh!
As for wireless mouse .. Hmm. Bit gimmicky.... I use trackball (Logitech)
BUT ... If its £16. I'll buy ONE just to show support !!

Posted by SlimJim on 08-Jun-2002 13:42 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Tony Gore): The picture on the webpage is an "artist's expression" (painted on the picture of
the keyboard rather crudely). I doubt the actual keycaps will stand out that much
in colour.
It's pretty cool. But I doubt the new OS4 will support all the functions of that nifty
"Cherry multimedia keyboard" ... How does one program the special keys on it? One must
need some drivers or similar I suppose?

Posted by Chris Young on 08-Jun-2002 15:08 GMT | In reply to Comment 6 (The_Editor): 16,00 is probably 16 Euros. The keyboard and caps is 40 Euros, which is about £29 - not bad really. I would however prefer a Mac layout USB keyboard, because these are more "Amigaish" - hopefully somebody will come up with keycaps for one of these. Also, I hate all those extra "multimedia" keys, which this selected keyboard appears to have far too many of.
Regarding the symbols on the keys, the boing ball would look better in the same colour as the rest of the keys. The right-hand Amiga key needs the slanted "A" on it really (can't see it in the picture), as the menu shortcut icon depicts one of these.

Eric Schwartz. Yes, you are right, that does look like one of his.

Yes it is.

Posted by Mika Hanhijärvi on 08-Jun-2002 18:42 GMT | What the hell is "Cherry Cybo@rd series keyboard" ?? I have never heard about those. Why not make keycabs for the eg. Logitech series of keyboards ? I might buy those for Logitech cordless desktop keyboards. |

Yeah I've got 2 of these mouses :) Someone needs to invent a adaptor so we can use real Amiga mouses in a PS2 socket (there are plenty that convert the other way so it cant be difficult) |

Posted by Joanna on 09-Jun-2002 07:23 GMT | In reply to Comment 9 (Chris Young): 40 euros from special keyboard is not so bad, unfortunately that keybord looks just awfull.. I'm allready having one cool looking Mac-clone USB keyboard for my Amiga. It looks much better and have only needed keys.
Another porblem with this offer is that I would need to have localised keybord (Swe/fin) for my use. Us-keymaps are so different that it will cause confusion. I assume those Amiga keys would fit into other Cherry keybords too? In that way I might get keys (and looks) I want? |

Posted by The_Editor on 09-Jun-2002 08:34 GMT | In reply to Comment 14 (Joanna): Thats a very good point you made about the local keymap Jo.
One must not assume everyone wants a US keymap.
I hate the place the @ key is on US & Australian keymaps.
On Uk keymap the @ key is one key over from Enter. |

Posted by yoodoo on 09-Jun-2002 09:55 GMT | In reply to Comment 14 (Joanna): Ron is offering replacement keycaps, so you can purchase the cherry keyboard locally (therefore localised) and just swap the appropriate keys.
Or you can order the keyboard + keys if you wish.
The cherry board is nice, there has been quite a tradition of cherry + Amiga and it would be quite impractical to offer keys for every individual's fav. keyboard.
All those people out there with Windows keyboards attached to A1200/A4000 towers can get a 'real' Amiga keyboard at last! |

About this Maclike KB.. I really don't know.. I purchased while it was on heavily discounted (was it 5 or 10 euros?) cause I wanted to have USB KB for testing with Playstation2. I have not kept original box and only texts on bottom of KB are:
Model number: SMK-8112JU
FCC ID: KM9-2S8M9BSMK
Made in Taiwan
According to Google it may be older model from www.Microconnectors.com |

Posted by Johan Forsberg on 10-Jun-2002 04:59 GMT | I don't like Windows keuboards. Even if you swapped the Windows Keys for Amiga keys.
Ctrl is in the 'wrong' place, useless scroll lock/print screen etc. Wrong placement of keys on the numeric keypad, no Help key.
On the positive side, apparently Cherry made the original A4000 keyboard, so it should 'feel' right.
Wasn't Merlancia going to make real Amiga keyboards for their Pegasos computers? Even if that project is shelved, I know I would pay through the nose for one of the keyboards. |

Precisely the reason why I'll be getting a Mac keyboard - they aren't the same layout as Amiga keyboards, but they are a lot closer than Windows ones.
Pros:
* Apple and Alt keys are the correct way round
* Equal number of keys either side of space
* Some of them even have a light under the Caps Lock key
* Help key
* Correct number of keys on numeric keypad (hopefully NumLock can be reassigned as a proper key, so we can get the brackets back on there - the jury's still out on whether this is possible or not)
Cons:
* Ctrl/CapsLock in "wrong" place
* No replacement keycaps available
* Tend to get useless power/eject/etc buttons
Apple appear to have released one of their Apple Pro USB keyboards with WHITE KEYS at last, (http://www.apple.com/keyboard for a large view of the layout) so I'll most porbably be getting one of those - the 3rd party Mac keyboards aren't really much cheaper.

Plus the row of useless extra keys at the top which I could really do without.
I'd kill for parentheses on the numeric keybad instead of the almost-useless Num Lock. I also miss the Caps Lock light on the key itself instead of in the upper right-hand corner. If someone comes up with an adapter that lets me plug my A4000 keyboard into my new AmigaOne, they'll be my hero.
Chris, you just might be onto something with that Apple keyboard. |

Posted by Frank213 on 11-Jun-2002 00:30 GMT | In reply to Comment 15 (The_Editor): Well as far as the @ goes, it's so much easier when programming to have the " key right next to the Enter key... :) (the @ is on the 2 key on the US keyboard)
When I had to use a UK keyboard while in university to type in my code I cursed for hours for having to press Shift+2 to get the quotation mark.
Well it's up to one's use of the computer... If you write tons of emails per day it's better to have the @ key next to the Enter key.
I'll take American any day...

Posted by Frank213 on 11-Jun-2002 00:33 GMT | In reply to Comment 22 (Johan Forsberg): Original Amiga keyboards were being made by Mitsumi.
I've not seen any made by other companies. Perhaps I should open up one of my new A4000T keyboards and make sure what's printed on the membrane but I really think that they are by Mitsumi, like the old ones. |
