Nice site update, but I'm still waiting for any news on the SharkPPC....
I know that OS4 is still some time from release, but all the other next generation platforms have been announced and details have been published, except for the SharkPPC.
Still, I found Elbox's site easy to use, and it seemed to load quite quickly which makes a nice change on my slow old '040 :-)

Hmmm, I always found the Elbox site noticeable slow, I was quite
surprised you commented on it being fast!
I do agree it is easy to use, and I REALLY wish they'd release some
info on the Shark. Where is the Shark FAQ they promiced ages ago. I'm
sure they said it would be available in a few weeks - that was a few
months ago.....

What info do you want? You know its a powerpc pci card that plugs into the mediator...it is made to run OS 4. OS 4 is not out yet...so there is no reason really to say much about the Shark until OS 4 is ready...

So why are Eyetech bothering to tell us about the A1G3-SE ? After all, following your logic we dont need to know anything about it since OS4 isn't ready yet...
SharkPPC+ is more than just a G3 on a PCI card - from what was originally said it also had USB, SDRAM sockets, and AGP. And was originally going to running OS3.9 using a custom WarpOS kernel from Haage&Partner (look at the Elbox IRC interview logs).

In reply to Comment 4 (Darren Eveland):
Those of us who have built up their existing systems with PCI, Power Tower etc need to compare the costs / benefits of a SharkPPC against a totally new system (AmigaOne).
I believe that Elbox are damaging their potential market share by not publishing details on the SharkPPC, as the A1 is now available for pre-order and as a result will be in an advantageous position when it comes to product knowledge amongst the market place. There are many examples of good products which have suffered poor sales thanks to bad marketing strategies.
OS4.0 not withstanding, those of us who are saving our pennies for upgrades need some idea of potential costs / performance before we can decide which platform to go for :-).

What's the logic behind not allowing drivers for FastATA etc.
to be freely downloadable. I've got a Power Computing FastATA
that I bought second hand and am stuck with old drivers. Why
can't I simply download the latest drivers as and when
required?

Try sending Elbox a nice email explaining your position and quote the serial number off the Flyer in the email. Even though you bought it used, you should be entitled to any updates as the "owner" of the board.
I'm a registered own of an A1200 Flyer and I'm still waiting for my update despite registering and receiving a confirmation email. I'll just have to wait until I get home to bang off an email and I have no doubt that Elbox will send me the update within a couple of days... if they don't then ANN will be the first to know ;)

Thanks for the offer - it's very much appreciated. I have another week at work before I get home and email them (I can't remember the board's serial number offhand and I don't trust my family to attack my A1200T with a screwdriver to find it for me). I'll be in touch if they don't :)

I don't quite agree with this statement. By keeping information on the SharkPPC pretty tight, the people who will buy an AmigaOne will do so. This will likely mean their "classic" machine will be sold on Ebay or Amibench. I think it will be buyers of used A4000/A3000/A1200 systems that will add a Shark + PCI to their system or they will be owners that need the backwards compatibility that the Elbox solution provides.
Overall, I think the Amiga community is better off when companies don't announce vapourware. Elbox has delivered on everything they said they'd do as far as the Mediator product line is considered (except for maybe the Mediator ZIII). The longer it gets put off, the better the price and or performance as the G3 and G4 CPUs get faster. It is a bit of a captive market for them. I'm looking forward to the Shark as well.
