There's a new, VERY interesting Executive Update at Amiga Inc's website.
New Executive Update : Comment 1 of 128ANN.lu
Posted by Mekanix on 24-Jun-2002 02:40 GMT
Yikes... Bill's "updates" gets harder and harder to 99% buzzwords and marketinghype... 1% news.
So Amithlon is back on track (thumbs up)... and not one sign of an attack on the MOS-team... have Amiga Inc. taken a "stand down" on the issue? And OS4 is still set for proprietary hardware.
New Executive Update : Comment 2 of 128ANN.lu
Posted by borkbork on 24-Jun-2002 03:03 GMT
LOL! They *still* seem to think that there will be "new Amigas", and even that the generic hardware being sold is a product of Amiga Inc. Pathetic. Ummm, no, "exciting". Too bad there are too few clueless zealots around to believe your garbage and buy an Amiga Inc-tainted mobo. So, how many "AmigaOnes" will "you" build?
"The Cell phones, and the Amiga systems will be shipped as soon as they are available." ROTFL!!! Yeah, why not promise 10 AmigaDE-powered ASCI White systems to a happy winner while you're at it.
OK, one concrete piece of information for the poor sods who bought the PartyPack, I suppose that could be "VERY interesting" for them. The Amithlon announcement was more noteworthy.

heh looks like amino is out of money again
it's not like they have to redeam the 100 dollars for the party pack for another year or more till a1/0s4 is avaible ;)
at least last time they had a product.. but i take issue with mr mcewan's comments that purchasers of the party pack could use de and sdk.
party pack is not the sdk according to amino and does not get any sdk updatte
party pack de does not run any .ami (de) games.

For Amiga Inc's sake I hope that nobody outside of "The Community" will read these ridiculous updates.
"You have all been patient, more than understanding, and have dealt with more misinformation, disinformation and rumors than any one group of people should, ever."
Yeah, we know, we all read your website and the garbage and conjecture you and your "partners" are spreading. How about either shutting up or telling the truth sometimes?
"One request: If you find this information as positive as we do, share it with someone."
Do your own damn marketing, unless you pay me of course.
"REAL opportunities will soon be here for all of us in the Amiga Community."
You are not part of us, the "community". We are your customers.
"we decide on a number of units to build and then we see, from web hits and direct inquiries, that there are 5 times as many people who are interested in the AmigaOne than we knew were out there. You can file that under "Beyond Our Expectations"."
No, that is filed under "so many unique HTTP requests were made from people who wanted to see screenshots of some OS4 components running under 68k". It has fuck all to do with a POP motherboard. Also, it's up to Eyetech to decide how many of those mobos they'll order.
"We are really pleased that the hardware is out there, and that the Amiga community is going to have the first new hardware designed for them, with their own operating system, in a long, long time."
Stop with the obvious lies at least, please. The people who designed those POP mobos have probably never heard of AmigaOS.
*I* don't want any hardware designed for me. *You* don't make any hardware designed for me. So far, so good! Now sell me your OS.
"the features and benefits that you have told us that you, The Community, want in a new Amiga."
Oh shut up. If Intel, Motorola, Sony or nVidia bought the Amiga trademark, then maybe "a new Amiga" would be a feasible idea. That hasn't happened, and we all know there will be no new Amigas. We don't want any, unless there's a BIG enough company backing up development and sales. Stop fucking pretending.
"the Amiga Anywhere Content Engine."
Yeah, introduce another meaningless designation with the "content" buzzword. That'll help your explanation. Why not just say "we renamed the 'AmigaDE-Player'"?
"However it allowed us to show to our board and our investors that we should pursue building a new Amiga computer."
WILL YOU F*CKING STOP IT ALREADY!?
"We need to properly plan, budget, and order for the production of the AmigaOne."
No, you don't. Hardware is the job of your licencees, remember? Or are you suggesting that the currently sole licensee will - *gasp* - always be the sole licensee? What a surprise! Not.
The numbers of current and potential Amiga users are nothing but bizarre. 30000 subscribers of "Amiga related" magazines? Is MacWorld "Amiga related" because they mention 68k and PPC CPUs?
"OK one more - hit 50,000 orders Amiga will give away 100 systems, 100 Amiga Enabled Cell Phones 3 trips for 2 to either Hawaii or Florida."
"The Cell phones, and the Amiga systems will be shipped as soon as they are available."
ROTFL. Seriously. This is the funniest thing I've read in a LONG while. It's like something on SA.
The expression "The Community" is being used as if we're the property of AI. From the Amithlon update: "we have had to deal with companies who would like nothing better than to split the Amiga community". Yeah well, tough luck Bill, but Gateway didn't sell us, our different needs and different wishes to you. The individuals of "The Community"(TM) have nothing more in common than that we're using AmigaOS. Don't make any assumptions and generalizations beyond that.

"They *still* seem to think that there will be "new Amigas", and even that the generic

Badging is a standard procedure in modern industry. go into a camera
shop and you will see shelves full of consumer-grade cameras labelled
Nikon, Canon, etc which are not made or designed by them, but selected
by the badging companies as being good enough for them to put their
names on and distribute.
Just as with the AmigaOne, they may ask the manufacturers to make
minor tweaks to the design. Unless the order is for a very big number,
these tweaks have to be very minor.
The badged product carries the reputation of the brand name. If Nikon
sold rubbish cameras with their name on, it would impact the brand
image.

New Executive Update : Comment 20 of 128ANN.lu
Posted by NeRP on 24-Jun-2002 06:12 GMT
I've already purchased my coupon, and I think it's quite a good way of
weeding out the people that would want to screw with a poll. Not too
many people are willing to dish out $50US to have one vote to tilt a
poll like this. To anyone thinking of buying an AmigaOne already,
there is virtually nothing to risk, except *maybe* $50.
And to you sacks of shit out there...
Why is it that some of you complain that it's a CUSTOM motherboard,
then other sacks of shit like 'borkbork' say it's just a 'generic
amiga inc tainted motherboard'?
Well, to be honest, the AmigaOne and Pegasos motherboards are
basically what the average high end Amiga system is now, just simply
minus the hacks and the AGA/ECS ability. My Amiga system is hacked to
have things the AmigaOne/Pegasos will have (PCI, for instance) built
in, and my Amiga hasn't outputted a native Amiga screen in probably a
year and a half...
I'm willing to bet that any of the people who actually own high end
Amigas, and have PROVEN they'll spend money on the Amiga system they
love, have no complaints about the AmigaOne/Pegasos systems as
motherboards for the next generation Amiga.

Posted by Anders Kjeldsen on 24-Jun-2002 06:46 GMT
I don't know what to say. If they were right in front of the actual production, then I could see the point. But at this point, there's no guaranty that either AmigaOne or AmigaOS4 will be released. They should have waited until they could have shown AmigaOS4 running on AmigaOne.
My opinion, however.

This promotion (price draw) is illegal in Germany. It violates Germany's law
against unfair competition (UWG).

In reply to Comment 30 (David Scheibler):
I think there's a similar law in the UK. That's why they all include the "no purchase necessary" clause in their small print.
OTOH, this promotion is being held in the US, so it will fall under US law. I think that for the same reason, all the discounts mentioned will only apply to goods bought from Amiga Inc, and not to those bought from the European vendors, but I could be wrong.

Sheesh. To all the trolls on here, just f*ck off and die, or shut the f*ck up.
When you ask for the AmigaOne people to not post trolls in your MorphOS topics and then you go and troll in the AmigaOne topics all the time incessantly, f*cking hypocrites and scum, the lot of you.
If you don't care about the AmigaOne, then don't read ANN. Simple, eh? Don't tell the people who are interested in the *Amiga* not to read an Amiga news site.
This site desperately needs moderation and user accounts, and the ability to ignore anonymous posts.

I haven't decided what's worse, cynics or zealots. I thought the executive update was done in good taste as was very positive. Too many parties are in this to succeed. I don't see how the hardware or the software won't get released. Hardware has already been released to the AmigaOne developers. This isn't an oppinion, this is a fact. It's just a matter of time now before OS 4.0 will run on the boards.

I went to HMV a couple of months back and got a £100 money off voucher against various goods.

It's a loan. A bad loan. This is your drunken / drug-addicted friend, coming round to your house and saying "Hey, about that $100 you loaned me". When your eyes light up because he's been avoiding the subject for a WHOLE YEAR, and you figure now he's finally going to pay you back - right then he says "Thanks for that, and I *promise* I'll give it back, but right now I need another $50"
To the drunk, promising you a "free" beer bought with the money you've just lent him, sounds like a good compromise. Everyone likes beer right? Beer and T-shirts? And a holiday, well, a microscopic chance of a holiday.
Rose, you like to make a big thing of your financial know-how -- tell the nice people what investments experts say about lending money to a private company. Tell them where they'll be in the queue if AInc goes into bankruptcy.

It's the offer of giving you a chance to win all sorts of freebies if they get enough orders that makes this different from simple discount coupon schemes.

I think the voucher idea is a good way for Amiga Inc. to get a good feel for the demand. It's not like it's a $750.00 USD voucher "Good for one (1) AmigaOne motherboard" $50.00 USD is very pallatable and should serve it's purpose well. It's also about investor confidence as well. The number of vouchers that sell will give clear indication of the support for Amiga and it's partners.
