It's time to put aside pityful and damaging behavior. The very existance of the community is at stake. Amiga needs to show now how many active users are out there, and by active I mean people who are willing to invest money in hardware and software. You want to show you're one of them? Get the $50 coupon (and free t-shirt) for an AmigaOne system; you don't care? Don't do anything at all, don't come complaining later when you'll find out that in the real world companies need to show their investors that there is a user base willing to purchase their product. And if you think that even without Amiga Inc. the community is going to survive think again: the numbers are getting smaller by the day, just two or three years ago people were saying there were still 300.000 active users, today we don't even know if there are 50,000 or 10,000 or even less. Without everyone's support the community <b>WILL</b> die. Time to set aside our differences and do one last effort to stay alive. Either you're in or you're out.

lol, the communcity will be fine (dare i say in a better position) without amino
>>Amiga needs to show now how many active users are out there, and by active I mean >>people who are willing to invest money in hardware and software
well then they can just release the hardware and software then can't they? so the active users can buy it??
Now do u get it????

I think a ignore function in ann would be good but most of these TOSSERS are anonymous or shapeshifting anyway, so...
BTW I think the $50 offer is a great way of getting an idea of how many units to build and I certainly welcome it and support it. Need a european distributor tho...

If you have no interest in spending $50 to ensure the future survival of the Amiga, fine. Go off and buy a Mac, or a Pegasos or whatever. Just leave us real Amigans alone. There are many of us who believe that a new Amiga computer is more than worth spending 50 bucks of our money on. Personally, I'm getting two.

This is it.. I'm out off here (ANN) for some time, can't stand these threads...
Why can't people learn not to complain about every step Amiga, Bplan, eyetech, morhpos, haage & partner, Bernie or others take. I have thought about taking this step for a long time but it makes me very sad that I have to do it, since I have been here since the very start.
A real shame that ANN is worth next to nothing these days... All because of trolls, anonymous idiots, and Morphos (and amiga) _fanatics_ posting pure crap here.
This current thread is a pretty good example where the usual persons show their usual behaivour..
No matter what these companies try to do it has to be shot down by some idiot (Hi Cheesy!).
I am no fan of pre-orders (after the P5 idiots ruined that) and I am not going to pay Amiga the 50$ for a voucher, still I do see the point Amiga makes with this offer.
I will buy the stuff when it's released, if it's released (which I am certain it will be)!
I hope things will get better when stuff is released but im not so sure anymore.
A little group of maybe 10 people has to start big anti-amiga campaigns everytime theres a new exec update or some new info on OS4.
These people don't like the route Amiga has choosen but they forget that it was Amiga that payed lots of money to take over IP, name and everything else that came with that....
You guys didn't do shit yourself to save the Amiga name from Gateway so shut the fuck up and let Amiga decide how they wants to run THEIR COMPANY.
I have my own opinion about the Bplan Vs Amiga fight.
I also must admit that I admire Ralph Schmidt for the initiativ he took back when he started developement of Morphos. Still theres also aspects which I don't like and they weight more, thats why I choose to support the official AmigaOS 4 route.

Well, a lot of folks seem to forget past announcements by these guys as well, which were outright lies.
Aug. 1, 2001 amiga.com, Amiwest Show Report, for one example.
The AmigaOne PPC computer, being built by Eyetech in the UK, is based on Zico specs published by Amiga Inc. Amiga Inc.'s flagship next generation desktop continues to advance towards the first real new hardware for the Amiga community in over 6 years. Excitement is mounting at both the Amiga office and around the world as Amigans realize that the long wait will soon be over. All partners in the AmigaOne and AmigaOS4.0 project have been working hard to meet deadlines as the project moves into its final stages.
Bill also announced that the two week slip in schedule for the Eyetech AmigaOne which had appeared in June had now been pulled back to just one week. The new Rev B boards are functioning well, with live PCI and AGP slots and work is now focused on bringing the board and the CPU cards together. The first week of August will see full system boards delivered to the AmigaOS4 team for preparations to move AmigaOS4.0 from the test bed machines.

In case you missed the news, 'cause it seems you really did, Eyetech threw away their own board and went with one designed by a third party because it was going to be (and it is) more efficient. So, enough with these old bullshit "they don't keep their promise, they change idea or stuff like that". I really believe that the winers in the community (which I seriously doubt are part of the community anyway) have even the faintest clue of how the real business world works.

If people are against what Amiga Inc. and their partners are doing, they can shift platform, stay on 68xxx, buy the rights or "get a life". Noone are forcing them to stay on the platform!
Maby Amiga sometimes uses a little to colourfull language, but thats their choice.
If you lika Amiga and whant a new PPC/OS4 based machine: Buy a voucer for 50$ so we can get things moving.
If you dont't like the way Amiga are going: Buy a pagasos, a new A1200 og what the h... you want, but stop bogging everybody else.
Lame critisism dos'nt change Amiga inc. strategy (thank god) it only irritates everybody and costs mony, time and ressourcerses that we have all to little of.

Ironic how the topic of coming together seems to bring out the worst in us, haha.
Not to worry, its will all be in the past and irrelevant soon. For one of two reasons. 1. Amiga (and all aspects of, including amiga inc, mos, a1 and pegasos) will die and the entire community with it, so no one will be left to hear the rubish, or 2. The platform will succeed and grow enough that the whining will be nothing but a quiet faint echo from the past that is dismissed before its written. Either way only a few years to go... So please, keep on whining, and be remembered for what your contibution to the platform really was. Dont you feel impotent in regard to actually acheiving something? because you are, your comments do nothing, no good, and in reality no bad, well not to amiga inc anyway. They just annoy. Whatever you are trying to do i dont understand why you persist. But feel free to do so. Because in the end it doesnt really matter, your involvment in the future will be short lived and you will be forgotton quickly...

Funny actually (or should I say sad ?), people are fighting about a machine which isn't even in it's final consumer form, and they're already judging it just based on it's specs or prototype models.
Why o why can't ANYONE wait for the release of the OFFICIAL consumer release of the A1/OS4 combo ? If you think you like it, buy it. If you think you don't like it than don't buy it but stop acting like idiots, it starts looking like some african tribe war in the 1800's !!
The Amiga name will always bring a warm feeling to me, although I don't own one atm. It sure brings back some nice memories. And in those days the so called "war' was between platforms (Amiga vs Atari ST, Amiga vs PC etc.) It made the coders/developers very creative for showing of their abilities at the other platform (e.g compare A500 or ST demos/games from 1987 with those of 1993)
Really sad this "war" is now on ONE very SMALL market (10k user max ?).
To those ever negatively criticizing ppl: Stop whining and wait before you judge (you too would rather have the 2002 model of a car than a 1984 model don't you ?)
To those other ppl: Wait and your dreams come true (remembers me of Fairlight intro's :)

Yes, if licensed by Amiga or its predecessors.

MOS isn't licensed by Amiga. So in this case you could be part Amigan if running MOS on classic H/W. You move into Ex-Amigan if running MOS on a bPlan board not unlike running Windows on an x86 machine. AOS is licensed by Amiga Inc. so you would be a "Real Amigan".
> What about AROS?
I admire the work done by the AROS team especially since it was started in the dark days of Amiga when it really looked bleak. I guess the question becomes will it ever go commercial?
> Mabey it's only someone that just hopes to see the platform succeed

The platform I want to see succeed is the AmigaOne running OS 4.0. I also with Thendic/bPlan good luck with their PPC board and MorphOS, but it's not an Amiga.

Sorry Luca, but asking people to stop taking a stand for what they believe
is not going to help. It hasn't in the past, won't in the present and unless
everyone becomes drones, it's not going to in the future.
But there is a way, a common ground, to build on and work out from.
How can other help? (let's face it, who ever wants to support Amiga Inc. will,
isn't that an understood given by now?)
Here's a common ground (which has been used by both Amiga and MorphOS and others
as well. Some form other efforts like UAE have contributed too, even MorphOS has
contributed, but don't know about Amiga.)
I have my reservations about AROS in that it is only as certain as whatever it's
current development status is and weither or not it has an OSI compliant License.
Right now it does have such a license and the more who become involved in it
supporting the OSI compliant license, the better.
Anyways here's a thread that many of you might want to consider, for when you
really think about it, it's supportive of all Amiga and Amiga like efforts.
It's a, if not the, common ground:

Thanks for pre judging me. Why is it noone seems to be able to have a civil conversation on here anymore? anyway, An amiga to me is the 68k machine i have sitting on my desk. With its Paula, Copper, Agnus, etc custom chips (And the AGA successors) and the tight integration between these and the OS. What else could it be? I dont believe mashing a few off the shelf parts together is any comparison. In that case then any PC running UAE/Amithlon is an amiga ! Even AmigaOS 4 will rely partly on emulation...
Anyway, fact is, I don't really care whether I am considered an Amigan or Amiga user or Part of a Community or just a customer. I do think though that people should be slightly more open and reasonable about each others opinions on here.
No doubt I will get someone replying to my mail with some rude and personal attacks. Shame...

I think "Amigan" is a ridiculous term (I'm an AmigaOS user, nothing more, nothing less), and it's even more ridiculous to define the term based on trademarks.
Also, the only thing the *indiviuals* in "the community" have in common is that we use AmigaOS. You don't have to agree on everything down to the last detail. That's not a community, that's a blind mob, and I hope not many wish to be part of something like that. Different opinions don't split a community, unless the existence of the community is based on one opinion.
Then again, people seem to be getting used to put individuals in categories, factions and camps lately...

I have the right to free speech. It's my oppionion and if you don't like it, that's just too bad. The question was raised over what a "Real Amigan" was based on the expression used in Bill's executive update. The intention of my response was to identify Amigans as people that use Amiga licensed hardware and/or software. I think this is a pretty good defintion and much more encompassing than people who use classic hardware. Since a licensed ROM and OS are used with Amithlon, AmigaForever, classic hardware, UAE (supposed to anyway), and the Amigaone, I strongly feel that this is a good definition. If it looks like I'm intentionally excluding bPlan hardware, I am not. I'm excluding non-licensed hardware and software which in effect would make a person a pirate. You might be Amigan in spirit...but not in hardware and software ;)

Good answer, unfortunately the tight integration between the hardware and software which once was a technical advantage, has turned into a hinderance in moving away from the custom chipsets. Personally, I've always felt it was the OS that made the diffence when compared to other platforms. I was only ever envious of the professional look that the Macs had. The Amiga always had a bit of a toyish look to it as far as font and gadget appearances. But then again, the Mac couldn't multitask and just about every machine would come to a standstill while formatting a floppy.

I do use AmigaOS 3.9 on my Amiga 1200 computer, so don't tell me that I'm not
an Amigan in HW or SW. I run MorphOS as well, which might not be AmigaOS
but it has the Amiga spirit and is compatible with AmigaOS.

Everything about you is Amigan....except for the MorphOS part. I'm sure OS 4.0 will clear up that problem for you. I tried MorphOS when I had a working CSPPC. I found it more fuss than it was worth as I didn't seem to have all the right DCE made hardware. I was using an EGS spectrum card and found I couldn't get my machine to run in any worthwhile manner. I'm sure if I had a CyberVisionPPC video card it would have made a difference. I also found the native ECS modes buggy at best.

This is more like an kindergarden in my eyes! i really don't understand why you serious Amigan's can stand to be in a forum like this or, sorry forum is not a rightful name to this, what it now is??? i hope the author of ANN.LU never shut this site down, so all you idiots can be here, where you best belong!!!!!.
someone write somthing, somene else reply and dissagre, someone make a reply and make a note about his way to spell/write?!!. someone get's pissed off. and write's back....... and the flame war was a fact, and what happend about the real issue??
no one know, and care anymore coz there is a flame war going on!...
Well people i know there is "serious Amigans" here to, and i don't understand why you people is here,or there aren't any.
Well my opinion about The New Executive update!. Well fact is, that Amiga is moving on, and running a business is not a simple thing!. is requires alot of strenght to ACT. When there is a very "odd group of users" to care off. it's hard to pleased them in both directions. One group don't want this and the other don't want that. So how do you do then????... Amiga one is in my opinion a NEW AMIGA computer. that's what we wanted years ago. and now we allmost got it. and their is peopel who still isn't pleased!!!. so why?... i just say either you buy the situation and live with it or, you sell you system to someone else and get a new PC and forget everything that has with Amiga to do. if you think you could do a better job you could aply for that CEO chair at Amiga Inc, but i doubt it. what i seen so far i really don't think none of you even could handle a spoon. but that is a great thing about being at a kindergarden isn't getting feed! :)-

TeNka,
It's just too much fun...I generally walk away from ANN with a grin on my face and get a good laugh. People take things way too seriously. It does remind me of the 8-bit days..."My C64 is better than your Apple II, Atari, TRS-80" Makes sense though, as we've not seen any new hardware since the end of the 8 bit era.

What does a flamewar hurt? Do you think postings of people's opinions on a discussion board are pivotal to the success/failure of a computer platform, take a stand, have a position that's what discussion forums are for, discussions. Most people have already formed their opinions anyway, If you don't have an opinion to express about the threads on this discussion board, I'm sure there are plenty of other forums out there for you, to participate in.
