Eyetech speak up about hte coupon promotion. I leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions. "No this is not our promotion - and Bill will post the clarification details
later. But we are shipping A1 boards + OS4-OEM to dealers (inc Amiga Inc)
and that plus complete systems ourselves.

It is likely that you will probably be able to cash your voucher direct with
dealers - but it is down to Amiga Inc to give out the details of how this
will work. The main issue - as so many people have pointed out - is how to
avoid the banks becoming the main beneficiaries of what was a well
intentioned user support program (we pay euros15 ~USD15 on every receipt
transaction for example).

Also the law is somewhat different in te US. In Europe you cannot (past
Amiga-related companies excepted!) legally take money off consumers for a
product that isn't yet on general availability. And, to me, $50 seeems an
awful lot to charge for a T-shirt, with an non-legally enforcable right to
an equivalent reduction on an AmigaOne. You will of course (somehow) get the
$50 off - this is just really a problem of how consumer legislation is
inconsistent - and bank charges are inevitable - across the Global Economy.

That may also go some way to explain why it is Amiga Inc who receieve the
money and not us or Hyperion

Just a few facts to confuse the debate

Alan"

@Cheesegrate:
Are you the dude who posted all that crap in other threads? Well let me say something. We are grown ups, we probably have used amigas as long if not even longer than you so yes we will make up our own mind about it, don't worry. My only question to you: if you don't like anything about Amiga (the computer), then why spend time on it. Should you not get a life instead, you know, find some friends to talk to and stuff. It's time better spent than waisting it on something you hate, no?
What an ugly place ANN has turned into. Why can't you just post the news and leave that "I leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions".

Oh boy, now we see your real agenda - the only thing you want for the classic Amiga is PD software!!! As a self confessed MOS support you obviously only want commercial development for MOS. You really crack me up.
And let's examine Alan's statement... what we have here is Alan admiting that he knows bugger all about how the couplon plan is going to work, and you post it in an attempt to put people off buying the coupons and destroy any sales of the AmigaOne.
Here's a VERY easy way retailers can make the coupon scheme work:
When someone places an order with a coupon, they deduct the $50 equivalent in the local currency from the sale price. When they have a certain number of coupons, they mail them (or send the serial numbers of the coupons) to Amiga Inc who send a cheque/wire the local currency equivalent back to them. Easy eh?
Now go and spread your pro-MOS BS somewhere else... like Morph Network News.
With fondest regards from your best mate,
Darrin ;)

Good try, but you've lost the Moobunny sweepstake already Cheesegrate, the 244th coupon was picked this morning. I bet Bert is worried now, there are 258 coupons sold so far, he picked 261 and that's mighty close.
Right now everyone from Seehund (411) to Bill Hoggett (537) look pretty good. Amazingly the most sarcastic suggestions "839 idiots" now looks like the biggest over-estimate. The community is too small even to have that many idiots it seems.
Of course some people will argue that chargebacks (there are bound to be a lot of chargebacks when people realise that these coupons are worthless) should count against the final total, but since we can't trust Bill McEwen I think everyone knows that the web site total is the best number we'll ever get.
Anyway, with that sweepstake still in progress on Moobunny here's one for ANN
~~~~~
One day history will record how many AmigaOne G3SE boards were ever actually manufactured. Guess as close as you can, without going over. Prize to be announced on the day of Amiga Inc's bankruptcy filing.
Oh shutup. Like the count means anything other than the number of people who wish to pre-order a "complete" system and who happen to read the Amiga internet news sites. For every one of them there are probably five of us who await product release &/or more details. Why celebrate the number, good or bad--if you are interested then order, if not... But I've got better things to do than troll or laud Amiga. The funny thing is that the trollers often don't see that they are as idiotic as those who claim DE is the next Windows.
In other words... the trollers are just as obsessed with Amiga, but more so. They nitpick ever little thing Amiga does or does not do, and they pretend that there really is that much to complain about. Amiga hasn’t done anything! They haven’t had any real product to do anything with. So what. 4.0 comes along and then Amiga can do anything they want with subsequent versions. People were complaining the day they took Amiga from Gateway, just as they were before. So what. Amiga gives its blessing to Amitholon and Amiga recognizes 4.X as its future. So it took them a year; are you going to keep complaining while everybody else is actually using this stuff?
A point, which some people don't seem to understand:
Amiga Inc: Squeeze money out of hardworking "Amiga companies" who try to make something good for the community. They'd probably give the Amiga-name to anyone willing to pay money for it. Just to make that extra buck.
hardworking "Amiga companies": Companies that of course need money to survive. But at the same time they want to do something for the community. Money is not their ONLY motive. The same thing about that guy who wanted to be sponsored; Would he be rich by getting $500 a month? Of course not, and that's not why he'd be doing it.
BTW, how many of you think that Amiga Inc will NOT touch your money until you have got you Amiga One ?
Nobody think about the PCI G3/G4 Cards for OS4?? How many users JUST upgrade their machine to PCI Slots, and waiting for PPC PCI Cards??? Maybe more than the 300 users asking for a price reduction of OS4 on AOne... I will be glad to "preorder" OS4 paying 50EUROS and getting the system running in my "HEAVILY UPGRADED AMIGA CLASSIC...".
Nobody think about this issue. :(
I don't get some of the posters in this thread.
Amiga Inc are running a promotion for a product that
they collect a license fee from. To my mind they are
"not making a buck out of hard working Amiga developers"
as they are in fact helping them sell more products.
Amiga Inc may own the licence but at least that means
they have a vested interest in the direction of the A1/OS4
and IMHO it's good to have someone at the helm rather than
a rudderless ship.
>I guess that too many let-downs in the past have embittered the ranks. Hopefully that will change when the new products are out ...
Period. That will most probably cause a serious change in the behaviour when the new products will roll out. Precedent to that are the different comment approaches concerning the pre OS3.5 and past OS3.5 era. There were just as well plenty broken OS promises b4: OS3.5/OS4/OS5, if one can remember. (Way back b4 our current Ainc leadership.) When OS3.5 arrived the sounds faded out, as there was something real. Discussion about the features took place instead of nonsense flaming.
The last serious hardware update (not to mention the PCI solutions and smaller projects) we had was back with the PowerPC boards from Phase5... All promises for a new machine/turbocard ever since proved to fail...
I have already payed money for hardware that never became reality. Am kinda sceptic ever since... :) We have a pretty long list of broken promises. And I have a pretty fine recollection of the times before company collapses. The hype and the hatred towards those who remained sceptic or dared to contradict. :)
If you have spare money to invest, do it. It's a certain risk you take however.
You may get it back. Maybe not. Whoever is able tell it now - lies :)
I think that Eyetech weren't told about this whole voucher thing before Amiga inc announced it, and the reason Alan Redhouse is pissed off is because he knows that Amiga Inc are only doing this to get (yet more) money up front to keep them surviving. I bet he's also worried because he doesn't want to have to cut $50 off his prices and then try and get the money back from the nearly bankrupt Amiga Inc.
Am I really the only person who has noticed this?
Why does everything have to boil down to a conspiracy? Amiga et al are simply gauging interest among early adopters to commit to an initial production run.
The concept was actually a good one, but the execution is where the problem lies. I'm sure they had the best intentions, but they really needed to clarify exactly what you are getting and when. If the opportunity doesn't apply in all jurisdictions then some thought should have been given to alternatives.
And that's it. If you don't feel comfortable with the arrangement or aren't entitled to benefit from it wait until the first batch is out the door and then make your decision.
I agree with your point, however...
I consider "spirit" to be a rather portable entity that users and communities
imprint or impose upon a technology they have chosen. In a similar vein, the
technology, by virtue of its particular style, its ergonomics and its unique
approach, chooses its users.
Also, I don't have a problem with new "spirits" emerging. Although I share a
certain sentiment for the Amiga past, I don't insist heroically that it must
necessarily be a model or a starting point for the future.
I just don't see what's so bad about this statement?
AInch comes up with a promo (perhaps a little hasty, perhaps with too little information) and states that they will inform the dealers about how to handle this.
Eyetech speaks up about it, only proving that AInc hasn't told them exactly how to handle the promo yet.
And? People are jumping to conclusions, making assumptions.. or am I missing something? Yes, you might have seen this before, yes you might be burnt from other places. It seems like most people need to back off and look at it from a perspective for a while.
They are also not obstructing it. Amiga Inc could very easily have
said "No, if we can't do OS 4, we're not going to let anyone else do
it either." Instead, they accepted Hyperion's proposal, signed a legal
agreement, and are giving the project their full support.
It seems likely to be a good upgrade.
