Gary Peake of Amiga Inc. just posted to the open@amiga mailing list that the much debated $50 voucher, available at amiga-anywhere.com, will be "good for any of: complete system, motherboards and OS4.0 or just OS4.0". Exact reply:
The voucher is good for any of: complete system, motherboards and OS4.0 or just OS4.0 Gary

This's what I've been waiting for atleast! ;)

I think this is, in a sense, welcome news. But I do have a question:
How does this help the coupon to determine how many AmigaOne systems Amiga needs to order? It sounds more like a generic way to collect pre-order money?
If buying a coupon does not mean one intends to buy AmigaOne, how does it tell them anything specific about the amount of boards they should order?

It doesn't. This is just a way to collect money to start
production. A way that is not legal in the biggest Amiga
market, ie europe. This means that no one will be sure to
get 50$ discount when they'll actually buy the product.
The next step will be to produce boardsa on request: you
order it, they do it, you get it six month later... ;-)

Allowing purchase of OS4 only indeed spoils the idea of knowing how many boards to produce. BUT the number of ppl who have a Classic PPC Amiga and buy the coupon is probably very small, even compared to the amount of ppl who buys the pre-order coupon. And if this helps reaching the magical number of 2500 sales, fine with me!
Also, on the topic of legality in Europe.. Amiga Inc. is NOT out to screw us, contrary to what many people say ;P. The risk would be that they go bankrupt (a la Phase 5) and we loose our money, but from what I've gathered their economical investment in A1 and OS4 is pretty slim.
Cheers all! (and may the force be with us ;))

It probably side-steps issues of illegality. You do get a shirt with your coupon.
To solve the problem regarding those who will buy the OS and those who will buy either the full system or the board itself--can Amiga add an option to their PayPal thing, so that users can indicate their preference?

As I think someone wrote: The $50 can be seen as payment for the shirt (as taking prepayment for non-existing products isn't allowed) and you get $50 off the A1 for free, but that allows Amiga Inc. to deny you the A1 rebate if they feel like. Fortunately for us Amiga Inc. won't do that ;D

I think if people are prepared to buy the coupon they are pretty much
committed to buying an A1.
I believe that some while ago, Amiga Inc said they would try to help
other Amiga companies with buying power for large quantities of
components. They obviously havn't been buying individual flash cards
to put the Amiga-Anywhere games pack on.
It's a shame uptake has been so low so far. Bill did mention the fact
that bulk ordering means cost savings, which he said could in turn
could be passed on to end users.
If not many people do take up the offer prices will certainly not be
lower and those that havn't pre-ordered will probably have to wait
longer for their boards. Be warned.

Why?
If the coupon would be good for buying an AmigaOne only, I'd agree, but they can use the coupon for buying an AmigaOS 4.0 for Classic Amiga as well.
Some of the people buying the coupon are committed to buying an AmigaOS 4.0, and that has nothing to do with how many AmigaOne boards Amiga should order.
Considering there were thousands of PowerPC boards sold and currently coupon sales are in the low hundreds, those purchasing the coupon for just AmigaOS 4.0 could influence the outcome significantly enough to make the whole measurement unreliable.
Unless the whole coupon campaign was just a generic pre-order scheme as suggested above.

How do you figure?
Technically speaking the money aquired from the coupons doesn't belong to Amiga Inc. They are legally bound to the system, board or OS the buyer intends to use them for and those who produce those products!
The offer clearly states that the coupons are only to assertain the # of interested potential buyers for an Amiga One.
Now if you intend to buy a complete system or no that is not the question. The OS will only work on "Amiga approved system", "if" there should, by any chance, appear dozens of willing "Amiga approved systems" then the developers would know what to base their production #'s on.
Since all these pieces are intricately involved with one another it stands to reason that the success of one will make an impact on the other and therefore it is in all the concerned parties interests to make sure that ALL the components are a success!
I don't find it strangs, or wierd, or even ominous that Amiga Inc. is promoting the A-One board or helping out with a way to determine actual numbers of sales!
As a matter of fact it would be very strange if they weren't interested at all.
THAT would be frightening!
Now that Amiga in clear text have given the explaination that was demanded from "the community" then someone has to find some other phrase or wording to hang themselves up on? Give me a break!
Amiga Inc. started this venture on the one assumption that amigans, though devoted, were not necessarily demented!
I certainly hope that they were not wrong!

Get real - why would anyone buy a $50 coupon just for OS4.0?
It`s not as though it`ll be produced in strictly limited quantities like the A1
boards themselves, and it dosen`t cost much more than $50 anyway so why take a
risk?

Have you ever thought of the chance of winning a complete AmigaOne system for reason?

Would you spend $50 for such a slim chance?
