Frogger 2.0 (aka NG) preview released! Its been a while since last Frogger release, but I belive it was worth waiting ;) Version 2.0 has been basically written from scratch, and can now play, besides mpeg and str movies, also avi (Windows Media), qt (Quicktime), rm (RealMedia), asf/wmv (Advanced Streaming Format) and roq (ID games movie format) files. See features to learn more about what this baby can do for you.

You can download version for PPC (PowerUP, WarpUP and MorphOS) as well as 68k version here. Most of audio/video codecs are now distributed as external plugins, so remember to download codecs, either ppc or 68k, depending on what version you prefer. Please note, that this release should be considered as beta, with lot of things still missing, and with lot of bugs (some known, check included documentation for more info, and some still waiting to be discovered...)

I never reg'd Frogger as it was so unstable on my machine. :-( Perhaps this rewritten version will be better. I hope so as it was otherwise a nice program.
Does the AVI support include IntelIndeo and other formats not often supported outside of Windows?

Indeo (all versions) will be added in one of next releases. You can see list of supported media formats/audio&video codecs <A HREF="http://frogger.rules.pl/features.html">here</A>.

In reply to Comment 2 (Sebastian Jedruszkiewicz):
It plays the cat-herding commercial, which the previous version
wouldn't.
I just registered it. Special thanks to Sebastian for doing a 68k
version, which works well on Amithlon.
It starts up with a plain green screen and seems to be waiting for a
missing splash animation?

And YES! It supports SORESON! SVQ1!

Is Soft Cinema and Frogger melting into one movie player?

That's a very impressive list! (Nice looking website, too, BTW!)
Just wondering if there's any technical reason why some of the decoders are PPC only? I appreciate that you (and other sane people) may think that they'd just be far too slow on 68K, but if it's a simple recompile thing it wouldn't hurt to have a 68K version, even if it runs at 0.5fps. :) Ah... I remember watching those early raytraced demo mpegs on my unexpanded A1200... painful. ;-)

Was this version coded in basic, amos maybe or the recent amiblitz ?
its overall speed is piss poor compared to the last non beta. its unusable now.
dont tell me it was remade this way, for benefit of amithlon users with 2ghz cpus ?

thats what i was thinking, but still it shiuldnt be so slow surly in a preview state ?
also it crashes on basics such as window resize.
i tell you, its not getting good reports in channels like #amihelp and #morphos.
but im happy to wait n see how it eventually turns out.

Does it? Curious how Xine has just been released with SVQ1 support
and as if by Magic, so is Frogger. Hmmm. What licence was Xine released
under again?

Shame the RealPlayer codecs are PPC only :(
But I guess we can;t have everything!

The real prob of Frogger (also all pre 2.0b versions) is that is damn unusable: a lot of Enforcer hits, crashes with buggy videos, crashes if playing audio+video on AGA, crashes if you play a bit with its controls (play, stop, pause rapidly) etc. :( It WOULD BE a great player if it wasn't so unstable and probably completely ASM coded (which in 2002 is not a very good idea under a OS friendness point of view...). If it would be rock stable and all those codecs would work I'd be the first to register!

In reply to Comment 20 (hexaae):
I like Frogger better than most other players. Even QT5 on my Mac at work will choke on some files & crash. I recall that happening back when there was only the anim5 codec to worry about too :^) I'm glad to see it still maturing and being supported.

Hex non si può avere tutto dalla vita
Hex you can have all in thy life.
Frogger runs damn well. I read some divx, rm and asf.
The asf have to be fixed a bit because two on three doesn't run.
But the rest...simply make Frogger THE video player on our miggy.
At last a word on the Morphos version.
Fast is the good word to describe it and I can image how it will run on the Pegasos!
Thx!

In reply to Comment 19 (Budda):
We really do need to have all the codecs available in 68k as well as
PPC.
The big omission is a codec for Amiga anim files. Of course these are
tricky because they may be in Ham8, or have pixels that are not square
(the file header tells you), but we really do need a good player for
anims on modern graphics cards. Multiview does a very poor job, and
doesn't loop play.

>We really do need to have all the codecs available in 68k as well as

Well, doesn't matter what we need. It's simply impossible since the codecs only exist in binary form and not for m68k

Where do they come from, then? I assumed they would have to be
recompiled for PPC.

In reply to Comment 25 (Don Cox):
It "simply" uses the codec from RealPlayer for LinuxPPC so they are already compiled for PPC
CPU's.

I prefer RiVA, it's a lot faster than any frogger version on my 060/60+picasso4. And I am sure that the next MooVid version will be better also. Frogger's autor should try to optimize his code a lot because it is damn SLOW. Now before someone jumps to bite my throat, try the RiVA demo and you will see what is optimized code.

In reply to Comment 27 (Crumb):
Frogger 2.0 is more than MPG (RiVa), QT and AVI (MooVid).
It supports a whole range of formats like WMV(asf) and RM.
Soon it will be able to playback encoded DVDs (like AMP).

Not really, because Amithlon on a fast Athlon gives you approx a
700MHz 68k, which plays animation files at a good speed.

Anyone got the Real Media codecs. I've downloaded the Linux PPC files but
have no way to open it.
I'd be grateful if anyone could send me the codecs.(Please mail me first as
I don't want to download them several times)
Has anyone got them working? Can you actually stream files or just play them?

Your numbers mean absolutely nothing. But anyway, since your amithlon is so fast (?), it is useless to optimise the 68k codecs.
