As the name would imply, it is a Jabber client.
To head off the next question, What is a Jabber Client?
It is an open sourced Instant Messaging service that allows you to access not only jabber messengers, but ICQ, AIM, M$N messenger, Yahoo! messenger, and IRC through one client through a jabber server set up with tranports to the other services. Your contact list is stored on the server, so whenever you log in to it from any machine, with any OS, with any Jabber client, you get the same contact list.
For more information check out http://www.jabber.org and for a list of Jabber servers for you to use.

And an excellent program it is too! I always felt left out because I couldn't join in MSN or Yahoo chats (without using an evil pc) but Jabberwocky lets me chat with family and friends from my A1200 :) Most of these pc users have never heard of, and don't want to use IRC.
