A3000 Tower Cases are here!
Hello,
Welcome to another edition
of the Software Hut Newsletter. As the
4th of
July approaches and all of us are baking in the heat (I know I am),
things are
also heating up in the Amiga World.
TOWER YOUR A3000D AND A4000D IN STYLE!
We will be receiving in our
first shipment of the Mirage 3000 Tower
expansion unit from Elbox. Now all 3000 owners can free their cramped
desktops
and "Towerise" it with more room for expansion, bigger power supply
and the
ability to run the latest Amiga OS, when released, by adding the Mediator
and Shark PPC board. The unit will accommodate all existing Amiga Expansion
Zorro and Accelerator boards, so no need to change your existing
configuration.
You can also find the Mirage
4000 Pro Tower Case, bundled with the
Mediator PCI card and MM CD via our web page.

TOASTSCANS A HIT!
We want to thank everyone
who pre-ordered the ToastScan. The feedback
has been unbelievable and the praise is much more then we expected.
For those
of you, who may not be familiar, the TOASTSCAN is an external Scan
Doubler
allowing a VGA monitor to be used with any AMIGA and any Genlock or
Video
Toaster
Setup. Ofcourse, besides working with the Toaster and all Amiga Genlocks
it
is
also a great external scan doubler with flicker fixer for all other
Amiga
applications and it works with all Amiga model computers from the 1000
to
the 4000. For more information, please visit:

OS 4 UPDATE
We have heard that Hyperion
is making great progress on OS 4 and the
projected release date is around October. We know they are very committed
and want to make the best product possible. As soon as we get a firm
release date we will begin taking orders on the Mediator, Amiga One
and OS
4 for existing owners of the Cyberstorm and Blizzard PPC boards. We
want to
thank everyone for their patience as this "Amiga OS to the future"
is
finished and finally released. Rest assured we will have some excellent
bundles and prices as soon as we get closer to the final release date.
USED SITE UPDATED
We have updated our used
site with many more new products and
prices. One
of the special items we have is an original prototype 3000 Plus unit.
Only
50 units were ever produced and less than a handful are still intact.
This
unit, serial # 27, is in pristine shape and runs perfectly. As a special
bonus for our newsletter readers we are including 2 Original Commodore
tie
Pins in their cases which were worn by Dave Haynie and George Robinson
at
the Amiga 500 Introduction in New York many years ago. To see this

Posted by PMC on 03-Jul-2002 18:27 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (4pLaY): Arse.
Still, just remember that this is more than a new release of the existing OS3x line, as everything needs to be either recompiled or rewritten for a new CPU. On top of that, it needs thorough bug testing, packaging and distribution... Not to mention manufacturing, a support infrastructure, stockpiling, shipping and the production of user manuals in many different languages.
However much of a disappointment the "projected release date" may be, doing all of the above is quite an undertaking. |

Posted by Ryu on 03-Jul-2002 19:37 GMT | I am prepared to wait until November the 2nd, if it isnt out by then i will be spending my money
on a flat and after that i wont have the cash to buy an A1 and OS4 and probably wont have much
interest by then. |

They don't even have any official basis for that date. It could be right, it could be wrong (earlier or later)... they just pulled it out of thin air, apparently. |

Posted by Graham on 04-Jul-2002 08:59 GMT | In reply to Comment 6 (4pLaY): Why? Just because some company pulls a date out of thin air and advertises it as the release date?
Aren't Software Hut the ones a couple of months ago who did something similar?
I do believe that OS4 will be here this year, hopefully before October even, but if it isn't, then AROS looks to be the way to go for me. |

Oh for goodness sake.
First AOS4 was due for Summer 2001 (we shoudl be on AOS4.5 right now, with AOS5.0 due in under 5 months).
Then it was due for November 2001.
Then Hyperion claimed they'd have the first release out for Feb 2002.
Now it's looking like October 2002.
Hmmmmmm......
Anyone care to place a bet on when it will ACTUALLY be released? |

Look at the AInc coupon offer - they'll be lucky to hit 1000.
Nobody is going to get out of bed to develop applications for a market with an installed userbase of 1000 people. It's time to face the final curtain I think... |

Did someone at Software Hut say that?
Or do you have more accurate info/sources?
I know you're under NDA, but please elaborate as much as you can.(If at all)

Or not. Sorry, but $300 buys me two bare-bones athlon boxes, one of which I can run Amithlon on...
NEXT. |

Posted by AUIW on 05-Jul-2002 17:10 GMT | One of the smartest things that Amiga can do to help sales of the AmigaOne, will be to act as their own distributor or dealer in America.
The way USA Amiga dealers jack up prices there, it is no wonder there are more users in Europe.
Products in the USA seem to cost 50-200% more than in the EU.
The fact that it is cheaper to buy new in Germany than it is to buy used in the USA speaks volumes for why the market is so dead there.
Compuquick (the cheaper alternative to software hut) has the preliminary price on AmigaOnes with (256Megs of ram, a 40Gig HD and a CD read only, 64Meg Radeon) set at $1100. Vesalia has no pricing yet on AmigaOne, but Pegasos (which should be higher) set at $1082 incl VAT (no VAT in USA so USA price would be $910) and that includes 512Megs ram, 60GB HD, 32Mb pine 3D GFX card, DVD Rom and CD Burner.
Don't get me started on classic Amiga expansions.
I can't wait til the AmigaOne is released so I can compare AmigaOne to AmigaOne. |

Posted by coldfire on 05-Jul-2002 18:39 GMT | The question is, what about the sharkPPC card? Without the shark there is no reason to buy a mediator setup. I can't see popping out around $500 for a case with mediator and then have to buy a cyberstormPPC card too just to bring my A3K into OS4 capability. At that rate it'll be cheaper to get an AmigaOne.
This waiting is excruciating.

Posted by nPPC_Kronos on 06-Jul-2002 04:30 GMT | In reply to Comment 18 (AUIW): >Vesalia has no pricing yet on AmigaOne, but Pegasos (which should be higher)
Why should it be higher ?
The announced price for the barebone Pegasos-mobo is 650 Euro including tax.
The announced price for the barebone A1-mobo is 600 Euro excluding tax.
Add german sales tax and you are at 696, and you would still need to add
whatever Hyperion wants for OS4.
So an A1 system should be ~100Euro higher than the same system based on a Peggy. |
