Want to help AROS development but don't have programming knowledges? Don't worry, here's a way for you to contribute to the AROS effort. If you have two computers at home, one of which must by force be a PC IBM AT compatible, please try out this floppy image and follow the instructions below:

1) Connect the two machines trough a null-modem cable
2) Start a terminal program on one machine and set it to 9600 bps, 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop bit. Start logging.
3) Boot up the AROS image on the PC and let the boot log flow trough your serial cable.
4) When finished, please email the log to aros-bootlogs@lists.sourceforge.net

The more time you keep AROS running the more informations will be logged, the more you'll help AROS development.

Thank you for your support!

Forgot to say that the cable has to be connected to the COM1 port on the PC.

Well, the main purpouse of this request is to get as much informations about HW configurations as possible, so to solve problems and improve things. VMWare provides the same, virtual, environment everywhere it runs and, besides, we can run VMWare as well :)

You are ofcourse welcome to try, but it is a bit unsure how well AROS works with VMWare.

The disk boots and sticks at the text part on connectix virtual pc for windows , i'll try vmware later ( i prefer vpc for dibbling in bsd and playing old games ) but the two don't get on well ( their network stuff ) clashes.
I'll do it on the real pc later when this divx finishes encoding :)
I've got 4 different x86 boxes here ,~1ghz p3 and oc'ed celeron voodoo 5 systems , a 700 celeron gateway box ( amithlon doesn't work on that ) and a dusty old 133 box too , i'll do it on all of um if i get the time and find the adaptor for my amiga null modem cable to the 9 pin pc ports.

IIRC aros did run nicely under the latest vmware .... it also ran nicely on 30 boxes at college :D , only way i could show people ~amigaOs on the crappy pc's :)

If there's any way for you to save the log, please send it to aros-bootlogs@lists.sourceforge.net

Provided it's a null-modem cable, yes, it should be safe. I don't take any responsibility for any sort of damages caused by your operations, though :-P
Anyway, doesn't VirtualPC have any option to redirect the serial output to a file or something?

I told vpc to use a file ( what ever it means by that ? ) and it didn't do anything , getting something at the moment that creates two linked virtual serial ports . i'll give vpc one and the windows terminal thing the other , hopefully that'll work.
its been a day of discovery

In reply to Comment 9 (Fabio Alemagna):
Hmm nothing seems to be able to make a log .... strange ... but i don't see virtual pc as a big target for aros :) , unless it doesn't work on mac version either ... but IIRC the mac version is more emu like with the windows version only emulating the gfx card ( trio 32 / 64 IIRC ) as standard.
At any rate i'll try to dig out my null modem cable and get some logs ... Aros is indeed an interesting project :).
