I'm a cheapskate.
Should I switch from the 5.10 CU Amiga freebie to this freebie?

V5.X is more of an OS replacement type thing. Opus 4.X is a fabulous directory utility.
Depends on which you need.

...and an excellent one at that, and if you don't like it, you can configure it until it becomes virtually undistinguishable from the 4.x generation. (But I still have to understand why anyone should want to do this...)
Oh, and while I am beating the drum, v6.x for Windows is a *must* for any Amigans "forced to use the Dark Side". Cosy Amiga feeling. You even get a vertical list of your drive icons if you fancy... ;-)

Lots of people think the program launcher is the operating system.
The Amiga doesn't have a "desktop", it has a Workbench. It isn't a
piece of office equipment.

Serious, of course there is more to an OS than the GUI. But for Joe Average, the GUI is just about everything he will ever be aware of. (At least, if the OS is a good one...)

Oh my God. And I thought I was being pedantic.

Ok, I suppose it's pedantic, but one of the main reasons for using an
Amiga is that it is _not_ office equipment. I dislike the whole
apparatus of offices, meetings, contact management, human resource
managers, etc etc of which the PC is so much a part.

This, indeed ugly but common office apparatus, is what made the PC big and strong,
