And the total is.. 940. Not bad. "Countdown to the draw: The promotion has ended. Coupon count may still rise as third party dealers submit their sales. Winners will be announced soon." .. So, we could well make the 1000 mark, well done people, I hope you all order AmigaOnes as soon as they are available :) et

Ask Hyperion. They can help you emigrate to the United States of Stupid Americans. Just ask them! They'll proudly tell you what they think of those who want an x86 AmigaOS (like myself).

Perhaps you could explain (by contrast) what is unique about Public Screens and ARexx ?
I'm thinking that the appropriate things to contrast with Public Screens would be Unix virtual consoles, X virtual desktops (and their equivalents on more modern windowing systems), and the switch-user feature in Home versions of Windows XP
With ARexx I guess the things to contrast would be Applescript and Windows Scripting Host - in both cases the language is "pluggable" but you can discuss the default languages if that's appropriate (there are analogous features on Unix systems but none of them are suitably universal)

Oh, I guess being one of those fellow stupid americans, I'm probably getting it all wron. Its probably Jobs following HYPErion/Eyetech, and not HYPErion/Eyetech imitating Jobs marketing plan. Right? ;->

After Ben Hermanns have been pissing on all x86-users... I'd say he'd lost that market for good. I wouldn't touch OS4 if it were ever released for x86...

The world of work has been very slow for many around the world. If this had been 1999 I’m sure the sales would have been around 4-5k. I would have bough one IF I had a spare $50.00US. I WILL be buying the new machine if I have a job when it comes out and offcourse running LINUX, MAC and AMIGA rules… all at the SAME TIME!!!

>your amiga spec is a joke.
>no wonder you think amiga is so fare behind
wow, i guess i haven't noticed that i have not bought any new amiga hardware the last 7 years or so... or not.
Since then does it matter what amiga hardware I've got? You ppl just belive I have no idea of anything at all which is completely wrong.
Even if i would have AmigaOS 3.9 and CyberStorm PPC sitting in a A4000 the hardware would still be slow, the os outdated and there wouldn't be any apps.
And i don't THINK, for almost everyone it's a fact that Amiga is far behind...
>PowerTower
>A1200,060/80Mhz,Heatsink&Fan,66MBRam,PowerFlyerGold,50xCDromdrive,250Zip,2.1GB&34GB
>HD,internal Scandoubler & FF,19"Monitor,Mediator,Voodoo3-3000,PaceSolo 56k
>,PortJnr2,ZEKeys-XS,SMON ,Os3.9
>& that can do things that your spec amiga could not even dream about.
which doesn't matter since there are "no programs" which uses the hardware anyway.
What is wrong with you guys, i've always read ann daily, i do know which hardware and apps is available and which are not, and having a slow overpriced ppc with outdated games just don't happen to be my choice.
scraping AmigaOS and made QNX more amiga-like would have been the correct thing.
>its funny that alot of times i see negative comments by ppl about the way things
>are going & them ppl have low spec amigas. just like the A500 ppl moaned at to
>much stuff not running on a500 & most new stuff is aga.
well, right now there kind of are new stuff and will probably not come any either.
And my specs doesn't change the facts, i just haven't upgrade because there was no meaning to.
A friend got 060 then they where released, was nice and i wanted one but it was to expensive.
I wanted the A\Box but it was never released.
Another friend got Blizzard 603@180MHz then they where released, I was thinking in getting one but because there where no apps released i didn't. Which was a good thing.
Gateways plans for a new amiga sounded good and i wanted one.
Until recently i was thinking about getting an amigaone, lets say a year ago. But then they where talking about a new version of the OS every half year and hardware using G4 which should have been released a long time ago.
Now i don't think their aren't any great development in AmigaOS, the hw is to "bad" and to late and I have started looking at alternatives.
As i said to someone else, you don't have to be "anti-amiga" just because you don't like what you see. A open-source version of AmigaOS would for example give me more hope, because then i would at least know there would be continues development for the os, and that i probably sooner or later could use more and more hardware.
And in the end a similar speced laptop as the AmigaONE costs $1.199 and you get a MODERN os which will probably have 5.000.000 users by the end of the year, which has new apps and which probably will be developed in the future.
The AmigaONE is said to cost $550 or something? I doesn't remember, add a gfxcard $100, memory $50, harddrive $200, case $100, cd-rom $50 and you are at $1050 without a monitor. I don't think the choice is a hard one.
I don't think many ppl do care about my posts and that i therefor shouldn't post them, but as long as ppl missunderstand me and thinks i'm "evil" just because i don't think a say 4.000 ppl userbase will help amiga...

>New functions that really do something worth while are always good,

>We do have two unique features that make Amiga multitasking more

You can use a lot of desktops/screens in a lot of the window managers for X and probably in a few non-unix oses aswell. They can probably not have another resolution but i don't care about that... Why would i not want to use 1600x1200 for every app...
Arexx is a good thing, and sheep will probably be even better. But they are probably not impossible to implement in another os if you want to.
>One possible thing to consider would be to make the Amiga more

intresting thoughts, and of course it would be good if you could have a lot of different interfaces for different kind of users.
The window manager i use right now is ratpoison which doesn't handle windows at all, it just maximizes all programs and let you switch between them with your keyboard, you can split the screen with keycombinations to but i never use that function. To me it's great but for some users it would probably mean problems.
>The other thing to aim at is really fast interrupt response, with no
>IRQ conflicts ever. (These are still not dead on Windows, in spite of
>PCI.)
I don't use Windows and I have no plans in doing so, so if it's a windows issue I don't have a problem with it.
If it's a x86 issue I won't buy an x86 anyway.
If it's a PCI issue AmigaONE uses PCI to
So actually it's not a problem.
>Another unique Amiga feature is that you can talk to the person who
>wrote the program. Try getting into direct contact with an Adobe or
>Macromedia coder and see how close you get.
It's not unique, it just doesn't happen in the windows world.
Windows and AmigaOS is not the only OSes available.

yes, i do know about it, but i haven't liked it because "it's not amiga" just like probably most ppl does... But it's probably a better product. One question i do have is how many users it will get, probably even less than amiga =/...
And because i've only used unixes the last couple of years and because i was watching some macworld video with someone i know i've actually started to thinking about it... My unix is choice happens to be OpenBSD, it's "clean", quite secure, well documented, easy to use (not as in red hat with a lot of programs for configuration, but it's easy to find your way in the filesystem and the documentation helps you to do the things you want to do) and so on. It does however have problem with playing movies for example, and of course there are no real games for it (not that i play games often...), so having a unix which actually works is probably nice.
I don't like how macos looks thought, but i think you can run x to so that isn't a real excuse, but then the usual gui is probably a lot smarter than any window manager available for x so i would probably end up using it anyway.
>This is no flamebait only a tip 4 Hagge

I don't try to convince everyone amiga is a bad thing.

Seriously, I'm wondering. Do people who have left the train ever leave the trains bulletin board anymore? Because frankly, I am more worried about the signal to noise ratio of amiga mailing lists and news sites than what will become of AOS4.

There IS a market for AmigaOS. The problem is being taken seriously long enough to get some applications ported. A few thousand people with a few years of experience could come up with some good software, but it seems all they want to do is whine.
"Amiga will fail" is a self-fulfilling prophecy, so stop it before it's too late :-)
Much better to work for something you would want to have even if you think it won't succeed and be wrong than working against it because you think it won't succeed and be right, no?
