The phone runs a Windows variant OS, so I guess getting AmigaDE to run on it wasn't really much of a stress ;-)

Looks like typical Amiga product, more than year late... :-)

Sendo is quite small and new player on mobile market. Perhaps they one day get into top-10 list.

It will definitely happen this time. As Bill said in his speech at AmiWest, from now on Amiga won't be announcing things until they're concrete, after what happened with Sharp Zaurus, Nokia etc.
"Sendo also licensed Tao’s Group intent ® multimedia Java platform, which opens the device up for Java J2ME MIDP compliant applications and titles from the well-known, vast Amiga entertainment catalogue. Amiga Anywhere enables applications to run on a broad range of processors or operating systems including Smartphone 2002 and Sendo’s Z100."

Well the Nokia deal was a signed deal and the Nokia product was shipping (in Sweden, and some places here in Denmark).
Problem was that it was never released with AmigaDE on it because Nokia took it off the market before DE was ready for it.
At that period Nokia where firing a lot of employees, dropping products that cost them money instead of earning money etc. Amiga really made a deal with Nokia at the worst possible time.
Looking back I can't see what Amiga could have done diffrent in this case, it WAS a big deal, Nokia is a huge company that doesn't usually drop their products.
Anyway, lets all hope this deal works out well. Sendo doesn't seem to have an impressive track record but I guess Amiga know more exact things about the release.

Jose, I think you have to see the bigger picture to understand.
If AmigaDE appears on many devices, programmers will start programming games and things for those devices. When eventually AmigaDE intergrates with AmigaOS you can run that program (assuming it's not just written for a specific device like a phone) on your computer at home, and it will adapt itself (higher resolution, keyboard and/or joystick support etc.) to your computer environment.
Exposure on different devices will ultimately lead to more stuff to run on your Amiga computer. (Though probably not on the 'classic' as some people will no doubt feel necessary to point out).

All og this to play old games on a player that runs over another
OS. Great, but... who cares? Are we going to put away our

I'm hopeful for this one, as I was for the Zaurus and MediaTerminal, but with my $50 down for the A1, I can safely say I'll believe this one when I see it... using Tao there makes a lot of sense with or without Amiga, but the thing's been delayed so long, I have to wonder what other problems cropped up in the design.
I also have to wonder how many people saw my crosslink in the unmoderated section:
http://ann.lu/search.cgi?string=Embedded+Windows&unmoderated=true&query=title (Hard to directly reference the article without any comments posted...); if Windows Powered(TM), or whatever they're calling CE these days, has trouble doing a task as "simple" as redirecting audio packets out to a Bluetooth card on a device with what should be a ludicrously fast processor*, I don't think we'll see Elate/Intent/DE shine as bright as it could with a lither host. I'm sure the apparently kludgy Bluetooth stack takes a lot of blame there, but still...
*Actually, anyone know if the main CPU is saddled with the crypto processing on these modern designs? For some reason, I've had the impression that's farmed off to a seperate telephony chipset, but it could be unfounded, and that'd take the wind out of my amusement...

Ahaha! I just visited the CRAPorate site and read the announcement... What a typical load of shite...
"...and range from well-known games to messaging services and business applications from Amiga's impressive catalogue and its long standing position as a pioneer in multimedia development."
Eh?! What impressive catalogue of business software? Thank goodness the AmigaDE is quite much a real goldmine of business software and serious applications. The only app registered at their own s(h)ite is RDtoy which is pretty F*cking far from a serious business application.
Well... I guess they have to try and convince the world with words, but thats pretty much all they do.
"The first Entertainment Pack features four unsurpassed applications that are a testament to the innovation of the Amiga development community."
Yes, the games were unsurpassed when vic20 was still the king... What a testament, what a crown... Sheesh at least there's payback running on intent but that's tao stuff. (no pun intended for the creators of the anywhere pack games. But they hardly are as unsurpassed as McEwen touts. Good games though :)

"What has it to do with AmigaOS", "who cares" and so on and so on...
Guys, when do you start to realize that, without Amiga*DE*, there would be no money - either earned or lend - to pay for Amiga*OS*?
Do you really believe the AmigaOS 4 will turn a profit? I doubt they will even come near the break-even point. (AFAIK, they did not for either OS 3.5 or OS 3.9, and those two did not require you to buy new hardware...)
Do you believe that *any* venture capitalist is willing to pump money into an "Eyetech and perhaps b-plan hardware" AmigaOS 4?
Drop the cute-colored glasses and start praying that AmigaDE reaps some profit, otherwise bye-bye AmigaOS. And please don't give me the "AmigaOS will survive". It won't become OpenSource - Gateway will see to that since it would endanger their patents - and if there's no-one paying the bills, all the fanatism in the world won't save it.
And without OS 5 finally making it to mainstream hardware... but that's another story.

WRONG, without Amiga Classic and it's name/userbase and the continual soaking of the loyal userbase, for 3.9/Boing Bag 2/Coupon's, they would have nothing. AmigaDE is a marketing fantasy, I'm surprised usually your one of the intelligent posters. AmigaDE is a colossal and abysmal failure, and has been surpassed in the marketplace with better solutions.

Dear Amigans :
- still no Amiga OS 4
- still no Pegasos with Morphos (though demos are made here and there)
- still no AmigaOne (though Linux demos are made here and there)
- a "successful" coupon promotion with less than 1.000 customers for a shirt and a deduction on the price of something still not available
- Amiga Inc. announces that the 5 or 6 running on DE little games and 500% inferior to any GameBoy Advance games will be available on the PDA/phone/whatsoever coming from an unknown company
Are we to consider all this as good news ?
Is it the future for the Amiga ?

First of all, there are likewise as many "wankers" out there that sees everything coming from amiga inc as a good sign no matter what it would be. So it's a bit fifty fifty (I don't mean you here)
Secondly, why do you think there are "legions of wankers" who don't see everything as rosy as some do? There might be a reason for it. Somehow I don't think the community has split into two main groups (pro Ainc and opposing) by accident. A rough half of people must have been disappointed by the way things have been conducted. These are people who have been using their miggys just as long and as faithfully as others and have shared and most still do (hence the unhappiness) hopes of even a small revival of the amiga platform.
They may not have any influence over the matter as AI owns the IP, but they have the right as paying customers and as supporters who have poured insane amounts of money into outdated custom hardware, to say their opinion on a public forum just as anyone who sees things differently.

Boy, you're seriously mislead. What do you think, what will Amiga do with $50 000 ? Its a one month salary of few SW developers. But, they have to give it back. This money is not theirs. And about the userbase. Let's say Amiga is still lucky and has 10000 customers, who are willing to spend money on the new product (I mean OS4, AmigaOne). Do you think it is a significant count ? Me not (but I'm in these 10000 ;) ). If Amiga content will ship ( via DE )on mobile phones or handhelds worldwide, expect that the profit from sales for the first day will be greater, than profit that our, event talented, but poor community can ever make. Sad, but this is our case (We need to enlarge our community, than we can discuss ;) ).
So I agree with Solar

10.000 * $50$500.000. Who the fuck believes we are as many as this anyway?
10.000.000 * 50c$5.000.000. Ok. 10M cell phones and pdas is a lot, but create just ONE killer app, and everyone will be spending a dollar or two on it, even if it is under DE. This would have to run on phones, PDAs and windows/linux desktops, but why not?
I would say securing a few deals for DE running on cell phones and suchlike would be very much worth it. Worth a LOT more than any sales of AOS4 would ever amount to.

Money passing from me through Eyetech and on to MAI do not count.
Money passing from me through Eyetech into Hyperion and AI does, however, count.
What counts is money in - money out
So, what's easier? Getting 10000 people to fork out enough money so you end up with 5M, or getting 10M people to do so?

Amiga Inc. have been securing deals for their DE product for ages. Tao lands the original deal, then the host's engineers figure out that Tao use a lot of sleight of hand in their marketing to suggest things which aren't exactly true. They demand answers, and Tao says something like "Oh, all those elements that you wanted but didn't specify and which are admittedly not actually present in the product you decided to buy, can be obtained from our partner company, Amiga" and so you get a new lot of PR. After the engineers examine this new product they conclude that snake oil, mixed with more snake oil, is still snake oil, and the product ships without Intent OR AmigaDE
In the cases where a company is sensible enough to let engineers check out the "product" before they issue any PR, Bill and Gary are left saying stuff like "We are talking to a big company, but we can't name them" and then a month later they can't even remember who they talked to, or what about. All forgotten.
Look at the Sendo announcement. Aren't the things promised eerily similar to those promised for existing WinCE platforms, back in March, for delivery in April ? Yeah, yeah, "We were let down. It's so frustrating". Whatever Bill, tell it to your parents, not your customers.

Is there video applications being developed for AmigaDE?
When will video phones from Sharp (and others) get released?
I recently met a friend that works at Hantro (www.hantro.com) he had Nokia 7650 that managed to record and play video (perhaps not 30fps, but very very close to that).
It would be nice to get that video app for intent/AmigaDE, as well as intent/DE for Nokia phones...

Oh please... Nice list but in all honesty they'd sell more DE if they wrote an emulator that played the old classic Amiga games on it... These types of games are only any good from a nostalgic viewpoint (similar to Mame). Problem is that they are new and no-one's ever heard of any of em.
The whole PDA market is a joke... Handheld gaming devices are plain and simply:
a) Cheaper.
b) Designed to be used as gaming devices.
c) Marketable to children (due to price ratios).
DE and the PDA market it is aimed at has none of the above qualities.
PDA's are also shit useless for serious business use... They are good for reading a newspaper on the train, watching tiny clips of porn, listening to a few mp3's and organising your diary... That's all. All of those functions can be done by dedicated devices that are much cheaper than a PDA.
The reason why there's no serious business software for DE is because there is NO serios business applications for PDA's... They're a scam... Bullshit little screen with pox little useless keyboards... So what if it fits in your pocket..
Why anyone thinks there's a market there for any of this shit is beyond me.
Unfortunately the fact that it seems AmigaOS's future is dependant on these crappy devices can only lead to one conclusion... When the rest of the world realises that these crappy devices aren't worth 1/50th of the price they paid they'll all get tossed out... Amiga Inc with them...and bye bye OS4/5.
