Posted by cOrpse on 14-Aug-2002 10:56 GMT | I'm seriously interested in getting one of those for me 1.2k , problem is i really need bigger , better harddrive / storage interfaces and until it has SCSI or UDMA100/133 card support its not going to be much use other then upgrading my graphic's , sound and allow me to give someone a pcmcia network card and a bvision. And because of the age of my Ez-Tower i doubt i'll be able to get it in :\ ... then theres just waiting for the Aone , but i want PCI now and if Elbox produce the goods on the Shark .. well .
Maybe someone in the UK will swap an older mediator for a pcmcia network card ( including clip on reset fix woot ) , bvision and a bitta cash :D ... Saving me the cash to get a new tower to jam it in :D |

Posted by Bonzo on 14-Aug-2002 10:59 GMT | Yeah, great... it`s cool that they`ve claimed the previous version of m1200 had dma and busmastering... then it appeared you have to buy a special CD and mach chips to make it work with music and tv tuner cards. I`m glad I went for Grex1200. |

Posted by cOrpse on 14-Aug-2002 11:16 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Bonzo): I didn't go for the grex :
A: the idea of many pci cards hanging off of where a graphics card was menat to go doesn't sound nice
B: If the blizzard died and i sent it too DCE , i wouldn't see it again .. Hell its pretty much f*cked already , requires 3 psu fans to run stable and has caused me serious distress and loss , but i'd rather have it here then at DCE
C: if the Grex died , if i sent it to DCE , i wouldn't see it again and by that time i would have given away my blizzard vision so i'd be stuck to shitty scart tv output :( |

Posted by Johan "Graak" Forsberg on 14-Aug-2002 11:27 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (Bonzo): I've tried the G-Rex, and IMO it was crap. DMA didn't work (probably because of me having a "wrong" revision Blizzard PPC), it didn't fit with my FastATA controller (PowerFlyer), and it's software wasn't so good.
The increased busspeed had very little impact on the speed in 3D-apps too (compared to the Mediator). |

What exactly is the *wrong* revision ... I can run APUS kernels that do a PCI Probe so maybe i have a *wrong* revision board also .... would explain that crazy problem with it .. I also can't flash the card with the lastest flash rom ( the DCE one ) as it knocks out the bVision but other people have reported that it works with theirs :\ |
