Directory Opus4: New Beta released : Comment 1 of 13 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Gregg on 16-Aug-2002 13:19 GMT | What happened to the Steeple Software "branch"? I know the Aussie fellow (Paul Huxham?)
had a difference of opinion with Jacek, and decided to develop his own branch,
but that seems to have withered; any details?
Not trying to start a flamewar, so please try and keep it civilised, folks.

Posted by Timothy De Groote on 17-Aug-2002 03:46 GMT | In reply to Comment 2 (Anonymous): A lot of people, including me, happen to LIKE DOpus4.x over DOPUS MAgellaen.
And i'm gonna make sure DOPUS 4.x runs fine enough on OS4 :) |

Posted by pVC on 17-Aug-2002 06:21 GMT | You just haven't used Magellan2 as Workbench replacement long enough to find it's beauty. I was also dopus4 fan for long time and hated opus5.x (pre-magellan, which weren't good enough yet) versions. But then friend talked me over to test _properly_ the Magellan and I got hooked. Now I couldn't live without it. It was like having whole new AmigaOS when others were just waiting Amiga inc to do something. And still it beats os3.9, which had only minor improvements to UI etc. compared what Magellan did. |

Posted by ano on 17-Aug-2002 09:41 GMT | In reply to Comment 6 (pVC): I've tried Magellan II but I didn't want to use it as WB replacement. I didn't found an option to turn this feature off. I want to use the WB and Magellan but that does not seem to work, does it? Everytime I opened Magellan, all programs I started after that would open their window on Magellan's screen and not on my WB. That sucks! I want to use Magellan as file manager and the WB as my workbench!! Can't this feature be turned off in magellan? |

Posted by miksuh on 17-Aug-2002 14:13 GMT | Magellan II is good as a Wb replacement, but I too like Dopus 4.x more when I need just a powerful directorytool. |

Posted by Christoph Gutjahr on 17-Aug-2002 17:29 GMT | In reply to Comment 1 (Gregg): Paul Huxham? AFAIR he went on holidays and wanted to start his own branch (DOpus4 "White Lotus" or something) afterwards. But he seemed to be pretty pissed with some of the reactions on the DOpus mailing list. I guess he keeps his own branch to himself... |

Posted by brotheris on 17-Aug-2002 20:50 GMT | In reply to Comment 11 (Christoph Gutjahr): And IIRC there were mostly misunderstandings and false fire alarms. I still don't why REALLY he left. Been surfing his website from time to time, but no luck. |

Directory Opus4: New Beta released : Comment 13 of 13 | ANN.lu |
Posted by Ralph on 19-Aug-2002 10:43 GMT | In reply to Comment 7 (ano): AFAIK Magellan offers the option to use it as WB replacement during the installation. To change this you have to run the installer again and choose "Change installation options" (or something like this).
IIRC DOpus replaces the "LoadWB" command with its own version, while the original one is being renamed to "oldLoadWB".
But please don't quote me on that - it is just too long ago ;-) |
