You may find on this site the first photos from the Alchimie II held this week end (7&8 Sept) in Tain l'Hermitage, France. Sorry, no thumbnails, too lazy for that.

Brief show report :

Lots of Pegasos to play with, Thendic France and bPlan staff present.

Alan Redhouse with two AOne (one SE running LinuxPPC, one XE bare board). AmigaOS 4 elements showed by Mr. Ferruci.

Lots of fun, laughs, joy and hope for the future !

See ya,

Ben Yoris

I forgot something : I demoed Hyperion Quake II on the big screen (sorry no photo as I was busy with the mic !).
The game is expected for the end of the month : bundle of the PC game with an Amiga CD (exe + lots of mods tested and working).

I'm sure it was a nice show. Thank you for the report.
I wish Hyperion will update the Intuition look prior to releasing the OS. Perhaps those 5% are for that. Comparing
http://onevision.free.fr/MosScreen2.jpg
and
http://onevision.free.fr/OS4Intuition.jpg
kind of underlines the problem. The former looks nice, the latter, well. Does not.
Anyway, good to see progress on all fronts and this kind of support for the event. That is good. I wish we could have seen Amiga Inc. there as well, not much from them in ages.

Well, that just looks like a 2.0 style configuration (and in hi-res as well?). As we have seen from previous screenshots, you can make it look a fair bit different.
What's with the "All", "Name", "U" gadgets on the drawer window? That's the first time I've seen those on the OS4 screenshots. It would be nice to have a copy of the OS4Status text file put on the web somewhere as well, you can't see all of it in the picture - and have the ones which don't say "done" next to them even been started?
Still, nice to see some new screenshots as usual, although I'd rather I had it in my hands.

You have to remember that the demoing these components is about
showing some funtionality being built into OS4 and the progress being
made.
It is not simply about the latest icon set. Anyone can get a set of
icons that are better than the ones they used. Its just not that
important at this stage.
MorphOS does look quite nice though and it is at a more mature stage
right now.
I think people should still reserve judgement until they've so both
sytems as final products.
Good news alround though.

It was my Amiga. I use it to beta-test OS4. I have no backdrops, no pictures in windows, menus. Sorry if it looks ugly :-)
But with OS4 you'll be able to skin it the way you like. You'll be able to change your AmigaOS in everything you want !
BTW, it was displayed on a Hires screen (640x256x8). Sorry I don't have a GFX board :-(

I went to mos news and the only thing I found was a little comment stating that aos was clearly behind mos in development which isn't exactly surprising considering mos has been on the way since before year 2000.
So do ya self a favour and cut down a bit with that hyping factor of yours.

What you're talking about is a so-called "colour theme", NOT a "skin"!
> You'll be able to change your AmigaOS in everything you want !
As far as I know, AmigaOS4.0 won't have window skins or anything of that sort. This is planned for later releases of AOS, i.e. still a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way off...

Not that I don't believe you. And the screenshots at Amiga.com seems to support it. But are you saying this as a betatester of these features or is this something you have heard from someone else?
And can you roughly list the skinnable features? (like changing window border textures, changing window gadgets and such)
Just trying to clear this issue up before the rumour mill grinds it too far.

One thing that I don't understand is all the eyecandy. Why all this huge icons that only waste space? When I first heard of MOS I was very excited about its list of features and its Amiga compatibility. I thought that I finally could replace my old A1200 with a Pegasos and still runt my old 68k apps. This was a year ago, and for every screenshot I seen I really wonder where the MOS guys spend their time. For every screenshot there is only more eyecandy and less 'amiga look'. This last screenshots really looks like Windows using Litestep and some kind of theme.
Now to the point. What happened to all the fancy features announced? Why isn't there a updated feature list? If I understand Thendic correctly, we are less than a month from the release of MOS, so why isnt there any information about it? I need some month to compare features and benchmarks before I buy one and the lack of informations is really annoying. Some guys said in one thread that the 68k JIT isnt integrated yet. If this is really true, who can we be less than a month to release?
Here is a list of thing that I want to know before I even considering buying MOS:
* Complete list of features
* Complete list of supported hardware
* Benchmarks of old 68k apps.
* List of supported applications (as complete as possible)
* Future plans. What is the next step after release?
* Support. Why kind of support do I get?
Dont tell be this will come 'when it is ready' since I need is a couple of month before I make the decision. And I will _NOT_ buy OS that only gives you eyecandy and this is the only thing that I have seen recently from the Thendic/MOS-team.
Disclamer: I am not trying to flame Thendic/MOS, I only state the reasons why I have become more sceptical about MOS the last year.

It really looks like an Amiga !
And don't worry, they are not loosing there time picturing icons or skins since men behind it are not Programmers but graphician, so there is no waste of time.

At the guy who has demoed OS4 intuiton: i think you did more harm than good. I mean, how on earth can you demo intuiton without any nice backdrop, gfx card,... Isn't that what intuiton is about?
Nice to see people getting excited again though! I hope the coming months will be good both for MorphOs fans and OS4 fans.
Keep up the good work!

Hmmm, it really does appear that the MorphOS people are way better at presenting what they have than the ad-hoc (apparently) demos of OS4 stuff. Of course the MorphOS screenshots were on a monitor, and the OS4 screenshots on a projection screen that was probably a standard video projector, hence the low-res aspect.
Were the window borders plain old WB3.x window borders? Or were they a "simple" version of the OS4 window borders, i.e., a "classic look"? We know that the OS4 window borders are more fancy from previously released screeenshots, so I would tend to go for the former here (not that I care, I think that the OS3.x window style looks perfectly fine, clean and fast).

Those snapshots (http://members.lycos.co.uk/new_amiga/amigaos4x3.jpg) were made in the context of "This is what I would like Amiga OS 4 too look like" some years ago IIRC. A few years before the real OS4 was started. Ie made in a gfx program and not in any linux gui or whatever.
IIRC that is.

Some others exist as WOS or PuP, are open-source (= native) or have a
special MorphOS-version (like FXScan).

Depending on the version of metal slug ( 3 and onwards ) it'd be illegal even if they did own a legal copy ... Why you ask ? because the rom has been modified to run on MAME as the original carts contain some heavey copy protection.
