As reported by amiga.org, Team AMIGA have voted against the transfer of the name "Team Amiga" to Amiga, Inc in a vote held on their mailing list. Read the announcement by Skal Loret below.

--begin vote results announcement--

In a surprising show of common accuracy between the three vote keepers, I can now announce that the vote regarding the transfer of the name "Team AMIGA" DID NOT pass. In fact, it did not even come close to the supermajority necessary for passage.

The vote was 28-18 against.

Thanks to all that participated, and thanks for voting your conscience.

--end of vote results--

That's just great. Now we have to go with second best...
Why can't you Team Amiga guys work out a deal to license the name to Amiga Inc.?

Because it had nothing to do with terms etc.
A vote was taken, and the active Team AMIGA members voted against. That's all there is to it.

First of all, the people that offered the name are not on
the Team Amiga mailing list. Second Amiga Inc. ownes the
rights to the name, they just don't want to take it from
the Team Amiga mailing list without their permission.

No-one needs a license to create "Team Amiga" or "Microsoft Fan Club" or "Coke and Pepsi Association". You only need a license if you want to use someone's active trademark to sell products or services, or if you are engaged in an activity which would confuse a reasonable person into thinking that you were the legitimate owner of the mark. Even then you may be safe under numerous exceptions and higher legal principles (e.g. right of identification, first sale doctrine, parody exception)
Since Team Amiga famously charges no dues, and has no official merchandise or for-pay member services they are 100% legal, no matter what their relationship is with AInc or Bill McEwen.

Has it changed?

Presumably the top-voted artwork stays, but with a different name (as was demonstrated in the sample itself)...
'Club Amiga,' with its somewhat unfortunate verb construct, is #2 on the name vote.

What about "Positively Amiga"...A statement and a philosophy.
I think the English language has enough words to keep away from the term "Team". I though Amigans were supposed to be creative???
Fleecy: "Can you think of a different name to Team Amiga?"
Bill: *scrunches up face* That's a toughie...hmm...how about Amiga Team? Hey! That's kinda similar to my Exec Updates! I find if I mix the words around in them that I come up with a different strategy. In my next one, all Amigans will become truck drivers and be linked up to a virtual headset to create a virtual world where Amiga is King...KING OF THE WORLD!!! I like it!
Fleecy: Sounds good. But what part do I play in that?
Bill: None! Muhahahahaha.

The list members were Amiga users when the list was formed. Most
are no longer using Amigas, but have stayed on the list. Amiga topics
_are_ discussed, but general interest topics are now more common.
I suspect there are also people here who are no longer Amiga users.
That is certainly the case on the Bunny, which also now has a majority
of non-Amiga topics.
The task now is to bring these ex-users back. That would require
attractive hardware as well as software.

Eeeeh... Ok, I understand that it's not illegal to use the name Team AMIGA but, if the owner of that trademark decides to use it, how could they possibly stop them or even suggest something along the lines that they would be the real owners of the name? I mean, perhaps Amiga Inc. can't stop them from using the name "Team AMIGA" but, I simply don't see how Team AMIGA could possibly claim that the name would be theirs.

Of course, legally speaking, Amiga have every right to use the name as they choose, but there can exist other codes of conduct than just the one based on law. Since (AFAIK) Gary Peake was one of the founding members of Team AMIGA, I expect Amiga to respect their wishes and not use the name.

Looking at the votes so far, it looks like it's the "Amiga Team" now.
I'm happy with that. It could even be shortened to the "A Team".

Yes, this is great, but it's an operating system name, not a team name. It'd be a neat piece of PR and kind of quantum-leap/transformation indicator if, maybe, AmigaOS 5 were renamed AmigOS, but I really doubt if anyone involved has the imagination and the balls to do it. The guys in charge at Amiga, Inc. for the most part aren't actually computer geeks, remember. Fleecy would come closest, but he's outnumbered by "managers," etc. Anyway, looking at the technology and business choices made so far, it's pretty clear that people are sort of driving while focused on the rearview mirror.

Now that I think of it... Why?
Why have a "club" at all? Clubs are supposed to be run by the community, like user groups. I just can't see a bunch of grown men getting all giddy about joining a "club" sponsored by a company, it just seems so... "backstreet boys" or teenage girlish, I don't know.
I mean, this is all unnecessary, there is so much going on right now in all areas related to Amiga, is this really necessary? I'd rather focus on screenshots, or featurelists, or anything really.
