My latest AROS disk image contains a simple workbench clone desktop. www.AhSoDiT.com aros Download it and try it and enjoy it. The desktop is to provide a graphical way to navigate these early test releases of AROS, don't expect all the bells and whistles, they will be added later. Thank you all, Matt P.

Nice work, Just tested the Images, the Nivida driver don't work for me.
how ever the new kickstart version works alot better now I se.

Hehe the Nvidia driver is crap ;) and as of right NOW AROS has NO active HW guys so it dosent look good for drivers at the moment.

I'd love to develop drivers, but I can't figure out the HIDD system and I know less about PC hardware than I do about the Dark Side of the Moon

Well AROS has an PSI.library as far as I know, how ever if you think about one whit an standard API, then I do not know if it is compatible with any thing else.

You know UAE is ported for AROS, and I think it’s an good thing that AROS do not have an 68k emulator, this make AROS clean and I think in the long run you se that number of port to native CPU’s are going to speed up by this as well.
I strongly believe that AROS will be the AmigaDE heat AmigaInc felled to make for the Amiga community.
I believe that source that can be ported to any platform back and forth is going to show to be stronger then the official AmigaOS4.0, Open standards are going to main focus for any hobby programmer or firms in the next 20 years

Right. I have not seen the specs of the OpenPCI library, but I would reckon it works in about the same way as the other two PCI libraries. They work by memorymapping the PCI configuration space, which I would be reluctant to do. Doing so requires MMU magic and also activating the paging mechanism which on IA32 will cause a performance hit of about 5-10% (Due to TLB misses etc).
But it could be done, yes.
On the other hand, the PCI HIDD system we have is working. It needs a bit of work still but it is fully functional, have no doubt about that.

You don't need an MMU for stuff like OpenPCI AFAIK.
It will be VERY good to have OpenPCI or even an HIDD OpenPCI
wrapper, to be able to just recompile the OpenPCI drivers.

Ah.. Sorry. What I meant is that for Aros x86 native to emulate the OpenPCI library, it would need to use the MMU.
I'm quite convinced that on the Amiga PCI bridges the PCI configspace -> memory mapping is implemented in hardware. No such luck on the standard PC though.
