"4) How could you possibly know when AOS4 is due to ship?"
As partners, presumably Eyetech and Hyperion are working closely together no?
What surprises me though is that Eyetech have basically preempted Hyperion by revealing details about the state of development. Why didn't they just say that OS4 will be available when it's finished?

True; well, whatever. Three, four. I've suffered along with fewer (believe it or not) PCI slots on MATX boards before (little tiny slot-1 things with onboard audio, max CPU speed of 333mhz, two PCI and one ISA slot, single DIMM socket etc. etc.)

Hmm, I didn't think they'd had one on hand to develop/test Morph-OS on. Now that they're commercially available, they might get it developed. Who knows? Would be neat to have a 3-OS capable board though. Four, if the AROS teams gets so inclined...Heck, five - maybe someone will recompile BeOS :-)

I don't believe EyeTech or MAI is in any position to judge when AOS4 will be stable. The best they could do is a quiet whisper in a hallway which may or may not have anything to do with real developments.
EyeTech/MAI: Hey Ben, uh, AmigaOS 4 is going to be available soon, right?
Ben (eating nachos): mmph, mmph, yea sure...whatever...
OK, there may not be nachos involved, but you get my point.

about new amiga's ? That's completely different (and
complementary... and you can have both on new gen amiga's)
Let's wait&see (and use what we currently have while waiting !)

> How many of you READ the press release?
> There is no estimate regarding when you could possibly receive your order.
> They're already sandbagging the issue saying the process needs "testing".
> There is no warranty mentioned despite the fact they mentioned firmware
> issues which caused the supposed delays.
> They make some reference to AmigaOS shipping at some vague date. How would
> they even know this information?
On the one hand I'm glad that Eyetech has decided to start taking pre-orders for these boards. A lot of people seems to have been waiting for this. But on the other hand I think they could have waited until they had products to sell instead of just taking pre-orders. In the meantime they could have prepeared a better 'press release' that doesn't leave so many questions unanswered. Eyetech propably feels that they are loosing ground to the Pegasos and want to hurry things up. The pre-orders instead of products is a sign of that.
I'll add some questions to the ones above:
How about the coupons?
Is there, or is there not, on-board sound? If not, will there be a sound card bundle of any kind? Included in this price, or will the ability to play sound add extra cost?
What version of AmigaOS (if any) will be shipped together with the UAE emulator? Will it be free of charge? Will there be any support in installing (and using) Linux and UAE for those who can't manage Linux? Will there be an installer of any kind, or is that up to the user?
Will the XE version ship at the same time as the SE? When is that? Can the purchase be cancelled if the board is not delivered before christmas 2002?
I am very cautios when it comes to pre-orders these days. I don't like buying promises. If I were to buy an A1 I would propably wait until I see a press release saying something like: "The A1 XE is now shipping". Placing an order when the product ships can't possibly delay deliverance considerably, and I wouldn't risc my money. But thats just me. Some people have propably already paid for the promises ...
Last, I have a reflection about the price. I think it's rather expensive. The SE board (which is a quite uninteresting product) will cost 580 euro excluding local taxes as VAT. In Sweden we have 25% VAT (high, I know). That means a price of 725 euro. GGS-Data has now begun to sell the Pegasos in Sweden for SEK 5750, which is about 630 euro including the 25% VAT. That is a price difference of 100 euros. And that is for a board that really shouldn't be compared to the A1 SE, and in some ways even outperforms the A1 XE when it comes to features.

Tomorrows show..
Hey can someone who's going to the show provide a -real- report on the pegosos/a1 boards.. detail what they're running, etc..
I think we can all agree that another show report saying that it ' boots fast ' and some more really long distance shots of people standing by computers isn't needed.. this seems to be a well put together show with a lot of amiga people involved. Someone make a presenter install M.A.M.E. and report on that =] I want to build an arcade cabinet using a pegosos.
As many details as possible is all the public (me) is asking from those going to the show.

>So, you have only 3 useful PCI slots in AmigaOne.
One Soundcard, one Firewire (when drivers will be available) and I still have one PCI slot available for I don't know what.
I have 1 AGP and 5 PCI on my PC mobo, here's the config:
AGP: Voodoo3 (Being replaced this weekend by a Radeon)
PCI1: SoundBlaster Live!
PCI2: DVD decoder (that I never use) (Won't need on the AmigaOne with a Radeon)
PCI3: FireWire card
PCI4: Ethernet card (onboard on the AmigaOne)
PCI5: Nothing as its space is taken by the modem on the ISA slot (which is present on the AmigaOne board anyway)
So, 3 PCI slots are pretty good for me. My CDRW is an external FW so I hope to see a FW card supported soon (and USB2.0 would be nice, too)

BFD.
So a distributor of the TeronCX announces that they'll soon start taking preorders, just like they've always done, and they announce their price on the TeronPX.
Why on earth do some people act like they can't contain themselves over an announcement of an announcement of a preorder of previously announced and sold redistributed hardware which one day is supposed to be running what we're waiting for, AmigaOS 4, but it does not yet do so? The most moronic of e.g. the Amiga.org clientele look like retarded chimpanzees in an insane asylym who just were promised the same weekly banana rations as before, but hey, it's a NEW promise.
Wake me up when AmigaOS runs on new hardware, like a PowerMac or PowerBook. What the hell, it doesn't even have to be *new*, it could even be outdated stuff like a TeronCX/"AmigaOneSE" or the Pegasos.
If you're going to WOA, do us a favor and laugh in that incompetent lying crook Alan Redhouse's ugly face for us. Give him a big fat fist on the nose for each time he says "the new Amiga", "we have made" or some other blatant lie like that. If you see anyone from that cowboy outfit "Amiga Inc", spit on them from us all.

An iMac costs $799, and can be shipped from your local distribution point. The cheapest A1 bare board price is about $580. That leaves you just over $200 to spend on all the other components, taxes and shipping. So you'll be using $5 cables, unbranded RAM, tiny hard disk, cheap beige plastic case, etc. and I guess you will using it remotely, since you can't afford a monitor (the iMac display is included)
Yes, the iMac is much better value for money than any of these feeble offerings. Look, if you're going to be an Amiga zealot then an extra $500 or $10 000 was never going to stop you from owning a new machine "PeeCee owners will be really jealous when they see me boot it, over and over and over to prove how superior it is"

The prices aren't bad actually. I didn't expect anybody to complain about that part. These (incl. the Pegasos) are the cheapest non-Apple PowerPC-based boards on the market. Given the size of the market the prices are good.
Not that I'm going to buy something that runs Linux/PPC.

Before Christmasaround a month until delivery. You will have to order with your dealer or hope they pick-up extra stock.
Pre-order is actually becoming more common in certain hobbies, it gives companies are chance to cut costs. Plus dealers don't end up with a bunch of stock that nobody wants.
If they stay true, they won't actually charge you until the item is shipped or received by you.
So please ask your dealer about that. Then come back and whinge if they do want the money up front.

Let's see... I can build the following AmigaOne 600mhz SE for $920:
Mobo, ATX case w/PSU, 256mb RAM, 60Gb HD, 1.44 Floppy, 16xDVD, ATI Radion 7500 64mb, mouse, keyboard, 17" CRT Monitor.
Only $120 more and I get something that's expandable and a decent monitor to boot... and a floppy drive.
Oh, and here's the new Apple eMac in one of them "monitor" cases (unexpandable): 800mhz G4, DVD/CDRW, Superdrive, 256mb RAM, 60gb HD, ethernet, 17" CRT. All for $1499.97.
Let's build an Amiga: AmigaOne 800mhz G4, ATX case w/PSU, floppy (who needs a "superdrive with a CDRW?), 16xDVD, 32x12x48 CDRW, 256mb RAM, 60gb HD, eithernet and 17" monitor$1181.
Oh no - I've beaten Apple by neary $320!!!
I have just been given an iMac by a friend because the monitor broke on it - quality stuff... Now we know why they're so cheap.
