Posted by Anonymous on 03-Nov-2002 21:40 GMT | Huh? Is the report supposed to be where it says "Title [empty space] Text" on the "Events" page? Have I finally gone blind? But my palms aren't hairy! I was promised hairy palms! |

Posted by Anonymous on 03-Nov-2002 23:39 GMT | In reply to Comment 4 (Anonymous): HAH! I was going nuts for a while. It seems like Mozilla (and thus all Gecko based browsers) puke on the commenting style in the source of those pages. All the new stuff on each page, i.e. the WOASE stuff, was commented out and invisible. Had to downgrade to ol' crappy Netscape 4.x to show those pages. |

Posted by Anonymous on 04-Nov-2002 00:14 GMT | That certainly beats <a href="http:index.html"> for the moronic HTML prize. I realise that most people don't know what an SGML comment is, but surely even the most pig-headed person can figure out that if '--' is somehow magic it won't be smart to leave a whole line of them around, especially without counting how many.
For anyone wishing to learn from this mistake, try varying the numbers of dashes in the comment line and comparing the results. Once you've made yourself thoroughly confused, remember only this: Start an HTML comment with <!-- and end it with --> and never use the pair of characters '--' inside the comment. This rule will keep you safe. Or, buy a copy of Goldfarb and spend the next month coming to the same conclusion for yourself. |

Ok, ok. So I never thought of that one. But lets face it if PC/mac browsers wernt so damn lame it'd work with that because anything inside those <!-- --> which i HAD done correctly would simply be ignored. Not my fault the stoopid browsers got confused!!
I've now changed the news.html and events.html pages to have <!-- ========== --> as their spacers instead.
Happy?

It's an SGML comment block. The "stoopid" browsers are doing the only sensible thing short of just putting up an error "Sorry, this page seems to have been written by a retarded monkey, please try a page that doesn't suck". Which is what they'll do with this sort of junk once XML takes over. |
