After reading [this] thread I want to make my own Public statement. You all know that I said many things on ANN and other forums that were provocative, abusive and insulting to certain persons. I want to offer them my sincere apologies for all the things I said.

This thread on amiga.org represents the start of a new future for our beloved amiga. We should work together to rebuild the platform again and be proud of being part of this communitiy. The only way to accomplish this is to be open for alternatives. I realised that I was flaming at MorphOS without even having seen it run. So I got in touch with Thendic and I bought a Betatester II for the Pegasos and I have seen with my own eyes that MorphOS is indeed an excellent operating system. If someone told me that this is AmigaOS then I would have believed it. The Amiga future has started now and I’m part of it.
Instead of talking I will do my best to advance this platform.

Don’t get me wrong, I will try and use AmigaOS4 too when it’s done, but we should all stop fighting against eachother, get together to again and move ahead.

I would like to encourage everyone who likes to comment on this or has questions or doubts to contact me directly at h.e.kanning at hetnet.nl. (Replace ‘at’ with @)

Thanks and best regards to this community of talented people,

Harald Kanning AKA Amifan

I also want to appologize to everyone who I provocated with my comments here on
ann.lu or on other websites. That's nothing what should be in a civilized
disusssion. I'm sorry for that. You can have your own view however you should
not insult anyone personally. Again, I'm sorry.

>I realised that I was flaming at MorphOS without even having seen it run.
Hey, everyone needs a little flame there and then when nothing's happening
and you are too bored. ;-)
But now there are the most interesting products for years actually arriving.
Come on people, the Amiga spirit lives on!

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your post AmiFan, this is very good to see that there
are still some people like you in the community.
I hope other people of the community will also try to be open to all
the alternatives.
Congratulations again :)

But as this seems to be a new beginning and as one of my strong public

Thanks for your statement and i think that was worth to break my 1 year

Thank you for this message !
I am sure it was not easy to write it... it must have been a very
difficult task...
But what we have to keep in mind is that flaming each other is really
aimless and that it will help nobody...
Amiga was a great familly with good and bad things among the Amiga
users, but these last months were terrible for everyone...
The future is just about to come... just enjoy it :-)

Chill! :)
* if genuine *
Who knows what stability he is getting from his system and the release candidate
made available to him. It might ( and probably is ) have fixes to the regressions reported at WOASE.
Kudos for the guy to actually GET a system and see if his preconceptions were challenged and kudos to MorphOS/BPlan for challenging them successfully. Now if
only they can do that with the rest of us cynics AmigaOS4 might actually be in trouble.
It is good to see people moving away from the FUD war and onto constructive
things like actually trying it out!

Well, new versions have new bugs, its normal
for something under development. I played some with
MOS in september, and that release seemed pretty stable.
I dont think nr of bugs is a good measurement on how
good an operatingsystem is, anyway, unless its a final
release ofcource, but then again, bugs can be fixed,
its harder to fix design-errors and we should be glad they
continiue to improve on the design at this point.

See what you started Robert? Thanks, again.
@all
Now, get on board and let us all bring back the spirit of the community! We are looking for people like Harald who want to help us make this platform THE alternative to MS domination of the world's IT environment.

Amifan may not be the only unusual purchaser of Pegasos. I too am contemplating getting one!! Who do you think it was that started the " Edit Software for Pegasos" thread!!
After seeing the Pegasos (and Bill Buck) at WoAse I did some "Soul-searching", and came to the conclusion that I DO like "Peggy & MorphOS".
After reading the comments on A.Org & here I think I will put my order in.
Dont get me wrong ... I'm still going to get an A1. I'll just have to wait a couple of months until the "Money Tree" blossoms again !!
By then Hyperion should have Aos4 ironed out and released anyway !!
And FINALLY I may be able to move completely away from this WinTel gadget.

Ps. Way to go .. Bobson, Axeman, Amifan, Bill Buck & Ralph schmidt.

In reply to Comment 13 (Leif):
First congratulation to Amifan. We all have tendencies to flame each other. At the end it is noone benefit.
I asked the MorphOS developers about these crashes issue involved at WOASE :
The frogger pb was because of the radeon driver does not supporting overlay.
The ImageFX pb was because of a very old library.
The icon issue was not one, it is the simple_refresh behavior. Smart_refresh can be used too.
If you followed the latest thread you can conclude that neither MorphOS abox or OS4 will prevent some apps to misbehave and crash the system. Of course the applications that will respect the new MorphOS/OS4 API to prevent this will be another story. Until then we have to leave with our legacy heritage.

24 April, 1996
We had to cancel the press conference scheduled on the 24th of April in
Frankfurt. We would like to apologise for this. The new date will be made
public as soon as possible. Target is end of May.
The project initiated by VIScorp with the Amiga developer community is

Message to Amiga Developers
23 April, 1996
Recently, a number of Amiga-developers have contacted VIScorp to make
proposals about the future of Amiga.
VIScorp is ready to listen to all suggestions coming from the Amiga
developer community.
In France, an Amiga developer asked if VIScorp would like him to represent
officially the company to the french developer community in order to
centralize their ideas and proposals.
We found this to be an excellent idea for supporting the Amiga and would
actually like to extend this system to all countries where Amiga developers
are active, so that there are VIScorp representatives in each country.
If you would like to represent VIScorp in your country, feel free to
contact David Rosen (drosen@vistv.com), VP, Business Development or Raquel
Velasco (raquel@vistv.com), Director of Sales and Marketing Europe at
following Email address: raquel@vistv.com.

Bill Buck

for anything, and they should, this should make for a happier Amiga
community. Time will tell what VIScorp will actually be able to do but we
like their approach so far: }
Message to Amiga Developers and Users
From Eric Laffont, VIScorp Developer/User Liason
28-Apr-96
I have been given the responsibility by Mr Bill Buck, CEO of Viscorp, to
rebuild a strong Amiga Developer and Users Community. I know that the
Amiga community is currently very fragmented and in the past nothing
serious has been done for you. As a Commodore developer since 1983 (C64,
then Amiga), I can understand all your wishes.
First of all, we are listening to all your suggestions about
software/hardware development, documentation, distribution, contact--just
about anything you want if it's reasonable. It's a great mission to seek
information from the entire world. So if you're interested in collecting
suggestions and representing your Amiga community, contact us on the
VIScorp Web Site, or (elaffont@pratique.fr) simply reply to this message.
PS: Mrs. Raquel Velasco and Mr. Bill Buck apologize for not replying to
the mail they have received because they are very busy, as you can imagine.
They will reply when they return to the US around the first of May. But
you can always reach me via email:

Thats all i wanted to know , thanks .. , I'll probably need more memory in my 1200 to consider running morphos or os4 .. only got 64 meg :(

Yes it does it very well, but you need a graphic card supported in 3D. For now the Radeon are not so you'll need a SIS 6326 (a bit slow IMHO), permedia 2 or a Voodoo 3 (maybe 4 and 5 works too).
"Thats all i wanted to know , thanks .. , I'll probably need more memory in my 1200 to consider running morphos or os4 .. only got 64 meg :("
Ah ok, if you plan to run it on a A1200 and you have a BVision for example it's ok for Warp3D games. But maybe the latest public beta is a bit too old now... :)

*sniff* How touching is this? :) It's good to see and I never thought it would happen this way. I thought it would be the OS manufacturers who woulld set the example first and us rabble would follow. I will say this though...even though your flame war is over, don't make any decisions till you've seen all entries. ;) Hyperion will be trying to top your impression of MorphOS. And that's one good thing of this division. Although, on the whole, I think it would be stronger as a unified force.
BTW Does anyone know how hard or easy it will be to port between MorphOS and AmigaOS 4?

Hello KenH,
If we believe what said Ben Hermans recently, it'll be easy to adapt an AmigaOS 3.x program to OS 4. This is already the case for porting an AmigaOS 3.x program for MorphOS.
So as porting to OS 4 or MorphOS need only few changes, it can easily be said that it'd be easy also to port from OS 4 to MorphOS or vice versa.

Well, not at all. An amiga can make a nice router, it has firewalling ability,
is still far better than guessing during hours what rom would fit for this
very disk image, still is able to print, store data, I mean, even pc people
still use old 486 for firewalling purposes. You can even give it to the kids
so that they'll at least be able to try it ;) , and it also makes a nice mp3

Crappy windows box takes care of that already :) , amiga serves a local FTP tho .. Really gets on peoples nerves when amigaOS cuts the filename and it removes the extension ... They get confused when windows doesn't know what the file is hehe.
"You can even give it to the kids so that they'll at least be able to try it ;)"
The Kids can have the a600 or a500 i've got ... I wouldn't let them touch the towered amiga .. its had enough problems in its life , If i can say its life ... Its had a couple motherboards so far.
"and it also makes a nice mp3 player or 24/7 dedicated ANN machine."
I haven't got round to getting a clock port sound card or mediator so its pretty bad at mp3 play back ... And the over active proxy fetches the latest from ANN .. It makes a good machine to play wipeout on and is good for checking the linux box is still alive ( It doesn't have a gfx card .. let alone keyboard )...
It runs debian quite nicely too :D

Amiga.org is just full of idiots which the amiga DOES NOT NEED, if people can not express thier opinions without being insulted afterwards then it is a sad day, Like this AmigaONE topic, if i say "Wow best thing in the world" then it is ok but if i say "Good idea but years to late, i wont buy one" then it is not ok to say that,
Amiga.org needs to ALLOW everyone to say what they think without the clowns (die hards) attacking them at every turn,
Like Amithlon and WinUAE, many people think the people what use them are pirates and not really amiga users but many amiga software authors use Amithlon or WinUAE to develop amiga software or people like myself who does not want to pay silly prices for hardware when a Amithlon does all i need and is fast,
Ignore the clowns at amiga.org esecially KennyR,AmiDelf (shame there is no ignore funtion on the site), good site stupid ppl.

I would consider anything to play my stack of games properly again ... I've been reduced to superskid marks ultimate edition under UAE.

It is a work in progress.
I remember how unstable and problematic AOS2.01 was... and how good 2.04.

I am impressed that people can apologise so frankly on forums.
It shows courage and respect, and I don't think I would have
seen such a spirit anywhere but on Amiga.
Thoose apologisers showed a real exemple for all of us. As some
people said, both forthcoming machines are very close and it'll
be easy for developpers to port from one another. The real thing
is that we share an ideal. We have machines, made by other Amiga
fans that never left the community and share the very same ideal.
Most of us, in a way, wanted our machine. Here we EVEN have the
choice, I would never have dreamt about such an opportunity !
Now that some of us made it, we can export our ideas and way of
being everywhere, show other people there IS alternatives to
the evil human controlling, good thinking, rich as several states
society that could (is?) rule our whole life. Help exporting a
machine that isn't just chips, or games, but a key for numeric
freedom.
