Re: OS 4.0
"It's currently in beta testing at 20 external sites, and it's just about ready to go – in three more weeks."
3 weeks ? Sounds promising.

Oh boy.. here we go again.
I have to give it to Mr Fleecy.. he's haveing so much visio (visions?) that mere mortal's can't keep up with him. I just hope he's not hallucinating...Talking about OS5.0 (with X86) in just 12 Months.. Well.. It's been way over 12 months since I was supposed to get my free (as part of PartyPack 'soon to arrive') AmigaOs4.
So sorry.. I don't belive him.

Sounds bang on to me. Ive been picking through what I know of what remains to
be implemented ( public knowledge ) and reassessed how long it will take. I
was sceptical last week ( thinking late Q1 2003 ) but P&R issues aside I would
say that three weeks is pretty realistic.
Just a shame that they had to lose 2.5 months to PPCBoot.
Dont think it will be long to MOS1.0 either. Would be nice to read a head to
head review before Yuletide!

Don't forget to vouch/reclaim your partypack's and coupon's when os4 hits the shelves, cause I'm pretty sure AI won't be the first one to remind you about it.
Also three weeks doesen't contradict with what ben hermans has told the public but as mcbacon isn't the guy handling the os in any way I don't think he can be the most reliable person to give estimated released dates (anyone remember all the previous "it's coming in 2 weeks" announcements?) I wouldn't hold my breath for it just yet, and certainly wouldn't order an amigaone before os4 is definitely released.

Sounds not very reliable...

also bill is very good in giving out the truth in their 'own way'
>>all the old Amiga applications run on it -- even the old 64k stuff. You've got over 40,000 Amiga applications that will run on the machine without any changes.
I don't think this is entirely true if anything I have read of project petunia is true. Old soft will work but by no means ALL ever written. And how did they get the number 40,000 old amiga apps? did they run and test them all? I don't think so...
>>>EyeTech is one of the larger computer resellers in England, and they licensed the right to take the project over. The Amiga One is our spec, our design, but they built it.
Again very misleading to anyone unfamiliar. Here AmigaInc makes it seem as they had given the specs to MAI and they had produced the teron board designs out of it and then given THAT to eytech to manufacture. Infact not even that because MAI is not even mentioned in this context.
All I can say is PR crap, crap, CRAP!

"You've got over 40,000 Amiga applications that will run on the machine without any changes".
"Amigas are still used at Nasa, Disney, Warner Brothers..."
"What about Pentium 4? Bill McEwen: Not with OS4, but it will with our next version, OS5 due out within 12 months from when OS4 ships"
How sad...

At the WOA:SE 2002 Alan Woodhouse said that Eyetech would not honour the $50 vouchers and it was a crap idea from the beginning. To get your money you have to contact Amiga Inc. - get your $50 refund and then use it as money towards paying Eytech for your AmigaOne. Basically you have been giving Amiga Inc. a nice loan for a few months! With the cost of money exchanging and bank rubbish you have probably lost out too.

actually, that's not entirely true.
When Eyetech was in Sweden, Eyetech, GGSData and Gentle Eye came to an understanding about the coupons. They would take the coupon, yet you will not get a refund - until they have gotten the money from AInc. Then you'd get your refund.
That's how it's going to work, IIRC.

I wasn't one of the people who took the bait of a $50 coupon. However $50 is $50 and the cost of bank charges et.c should not be put on the purchasers of the coupon, but on Amiga Inc. for making the offer worldwide in the first place.

I think it's up to the consumer to make their own judgement;
whether the bank charges would be worth it, whether the
products would actually arrive. Most people investing in this
scheme would be Amigans. Most Amigans probably remember
what happened with the Phase 5 G3/G4 accelerators that never
materialised. It's not as if the "Amiga World" has never seen
this kind of offer before.

Hmmm.... I would have loved an interview with Fleecy, but these interviews with Bill sounds like pure PR bull...
- OS5 in 12 months, don't believe it!
- No AA/DE for Amiga desktop until OS5, not what Fleecy said at WOASE, he said OS4.2!
Apart from that it is nice to see Amiga beeing more active again and who knows (maybe Bill does?) maybe PR crap like this is what it takes to get the name back in the limelight?
When _WE_ read stuff like this we should maybe think that we know better and that it is not an interview directed at us.
OT: Just had a look at an Orange Smartphone today, it's actually pretty cool. Wouldn't be suprised if Amiga's deal with M$ turns out to be worth millions of $$...

Oh.. my.. god.. Maybe they used this? http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/28019.html
I don't honestly believe they are reporting what Bill McEwen said. This HAS to be made up.
ET: who is EyeTech?
Bill McEwen: EyeTech is one of the larger computer resellers in England
Are they? They're that big? Wow, how many billion sterling did they turn over
last year? What about computer resellers in the rest of the UK?
Bill McEwen: OS4 is the next version of the Amiga OS, it's a total rewrite of
the operating system. It's brand new from the ground up, rewritten for the PPC
hardware.
Followed immediately by this contradictory information:
Bill McEwen: Well, major portions of the code are still being used.
And as far as we the public know, many of the new components are still 68k.
Bill McEwen: all the old Amiga applications run on it -- even the old 64k stuff.
Now, even if we assume 64k=68k, then what does this sentence mean? 99% of the
"old Amiga applications" ARE the "old 68k stuff"! No need for the "even"
qualification.
Bill McEwen: They're all not as old as you think, some of the newer apps do
image manipulation, and some are for video editing
No, not even McEwen could say that. This interview is faked.
Bill McEwen: They keep popping up, like at BritRail.
As an aside, who are BritRail and what do they use Amigas for?
Interview with Bill M on Extremetech : Comment 26 of 98ANN.lu
Posted by LieByLie on 12-Nov-2002 12:37 GMT
Bill: EyeTech is one of the larger computer resellers in England
Vague, but false, unless "Police Academy 6 is one of the best movies ever made"
Bill: The Amiga One is our spec, our design, but they built it.
The A1 is MAI's spec, MAI's design and built by MAI for MAI's customers, who include Eyetech. Bill had never even seen a board until AmiWest this year.
Bill: I guess it is now, but only with Linux on it.
A1 boards are still slowly trickling out to beta testers who ordered in March. If you order one today it might arrive in December, or January.
Bill: it's just about ready to go – in three more weeks.
OS4 for PPC accelerators is still more than three weeks away, OS4 for A1 owners is months away. I guess "two weeks" isn't as great sounding as it used to be.
Bill: all the old Amiga applications run on it
No-one knows how many old Amiga apps will work since the Friedens still don't have a version of OS4 with 68K emulation. Best guess is that initially rather less will work than on Amithlon. Hundreds of famous Amiga apps will certainly never run properly on OS4.
[Will it cost more than boxed Linux distros?]
Bill McEwen: No.
Last prices seen from Hyperion are $60 for OS4 without developer kit, printed system manuals etc. Linux distros are often $40 or less (and of course they include all development tools and install support). So Bill has to find $20 per copy to pay Hyperion to make this happen. From where?
Bill: OS5 due out within 12 months from when OS4 ships
No-one is working on OS5.
[At this point the ET interviewer confronts Bill with various accusations from the Amiga users, and Bill dismisses all of them as untrue.]
Basically, no tech interviewer is going to reply "You're lying" or "You evaded the question. Answer properly" in an interview, so for a fraud like Bill these interviews are an opportunity to say /anything/ that will make people give him money.

The 7 million was mentioned twice. I'm referring to this bit:
"The Amiga stuff is designed for the Amiga community, the 7 million systems sold."
Taken in context it gives the impression that the Amiga community - those who would be interested in the new AmigaOS - are 7 million strong.
I'm afraid that is plainly BS, no matter how you look at it.

Anyone that would get that impression has more problems each day than believing some marketing guy. Most of the Amiga's sold won't even be able to run AOS4 ( and thats assuming that a1200 & a4000 owners will ever be able to ).
Never believe the marketting guys, no matter what company etc.
