It's known.. There are millions of people around the globe who had Amigas on those glory years, and a lots of their friends who never got one themselves.
So it's no wonder.. And Retro is popular once again. :)

Really proves that there are many people with very good memories of the Classic and they're interested because of that.
I say again, the Amiga italic(?) word that was on the plastic cases of the Classics should exist on the cases of the Amiga One!!!

Amigas was brilliant in their day but times change and the amigas are still stuck in the early 90s era, this amigaone is only really aimed at the total die hards as no sensible computer user is going to downgrade just to run OS 3.9PPC, when amiga inc finally stop f*cking around and get to serious buisness then maybe the amiga may make a half decent comeback but as it is now with the pegasos/A1 amigas future is very limited, Release something the users want instead of something to make a quick buck, that goes for Alan redhouse to with his crap company.

"Amigas was brilliant in their day"
Well they certainly were an eye opener for those that have never used similar
power before. Power to the people ;)
" but times change and the amigas are still stuck in the early 90s era,"
Utter utter cock. Sorry for the expletive but its more 2000 than 2002 if we are talking raw processor speed for the hardware but the OS itself is far from
what your preconceptions seem to make out.
" this amigaone is only really aimed at the total die hards"
Die hards, romantics and those seeking an accessable alternative to the Mac or Windows. That could be a significant market.
" as no sensible computer user is going to downgrade just to run OS 3.9PPC, "
Again, total cock. Even what is publically known about OS4.0 and demonstrated
show it is far superior to OS3.x. However we should both just wait and see
for ourselves. If once it has been released and you try it and say it is OS3.9PPC then I might be prepared to listen.
"when amiga inc finally stop f*cking around and get to serious buisness"
Well they have been trying.
" then maybe the amiga may make a half decent comeback but as it is now with the pegasos/A1 amigas future is very limited"
Intially I would concede that. Initially as in 1st quarter of MOS and AOS4 release perhaps. Lets see.
", Release something the users want"
A LOT of users want Pegasos/A1. You mean release something that YOU want. Whats wrong with Linux/Java for you?
" instead of something to make a quick buck, that goes for Alan redhouse to with his crap company."
Grow up. Alan has got one of the best reputations in the industry, his company is far from "crap" and you sir are just a mouthy little twerp who bleats like a stuck pig when things don't go your way.
If you want a fight, I'll meet you in Brussells outside the Mannekin Pis on Saturday at 1pm. Bring your friends, you'll need them to drive you to the hospital.

I just don't think some people understand just how hard it is to get funding in a company for such a project.
The DE has been pushed and pushed to fund development for OS4. Why do people complain about it? Because, they just don't understand, it seems. Without the DE, there would be no OS4, because there would be no money for it. Get it? Pushing the DE in the mobile market, means money for OS4, which then means DE content for OS4.x and beyond.
Eyetech, as Dave points out, is one of the most reputable companies in the Amiga market. Not only have they offered great customer service through the years, but they have also stood by the platform and made new hardware available to users.
As Ben Hermans stated, with figures, the speed of OS4 will be truly rewarding to the user. With kernel message signalling speeds of 4 microseconds, it will absolutely fly. (running on a G3-600mhz) Compare that to other operating systems on the same hardware...we don't need to go down that road. Not forgetting all the new features OS4 will offer...
They're all doing a great job. Leave them alone.
Steve.

Please get your facts straight. The OS4 is funded by Hyperion, not Amiga Inc. who are actually not paying anything to get it done. They didn't have the money at the time, this is public knowledge since last November. The IP will remain with Hyperion and probably Amiga Inc. has a buy option for a later date. Hyperion are financing the project apparently by doing contract work elsewhere. This has nothing to do with the DE.

DE has been like dry well.. Whatever you pour in sinks and stays there. It's never ben any moneymaker to AmigaInc. Ok, they managed to fool few thousand people (me included) to purchase SDK (and partyPack) but that money is long gone now. Since summer 2001 there has been no income from DE/AA.

I thought that myth had been dispelled even among the most hardened cultists by now?
No, Amiga Inc or their products don't fund squat besides Amiga Inc itself.
> DE content for OS4.x and beyond.
Fantastic news, who would want to be without any of that? LOL!
Oh, look, he's mimicking the Marketese of his masters too! "Content", how cute. Within a month we'll hear him say "intellectual property" and "official Amiga solution" as well.
What follows later in that post is a typical trait of the Z. ignoramus, although it's more radically expressed in this specimen: he's commenting on a story in which his idol fucked up once again, but since it's hard even for the Z. ignoramus to find an excuse for this fuckup, he goes on to comment on things that he thinks the readers will think are good. It doesn't matter that it has no bearing on the story (like that an old Amiga dealer used to offer good service and new keyboard adapters) or that he doesn't even doubt to throw in some absolutely meaningless marketing numbers (from some clueless lawyer chattering about "kernel message signalling speeds").
Ladies and gentlemen, behold the Z. ignoramus, slithering its way through the Amiga corpse, hoping that there one day will be more rotting flesh to gnaw on, for it is used to rotting flesh and has usually never tasted anything else.

Eyetech LOL, they are the most expensive for basic hardware in the UK, Even major expensive stores like TIME & PCWORLD are cheaper than Eyetech and thats saying something,
Just look at Eyetechs price for a IDE 16x CD Burner, its over twice the cost of a 24x LiteON cd burner from PCWorld.

FFS! Why do people keep attacking the A1/Pegasos systems "because they are not as powerful hardware as top-spec PC hardware"?? The purpose of these systems is to UPgrade the old 68K Amigas to a new platform. These are not designed to take over the world. They are not expected to beat M$ out of busniess. Don't bitch that you can buy higher spec PC hardware for less money, only bitch if you can buy higher spec Amiga hardware (not software like Amithlon etc) for less.

new platforms LOL more like rejects, Amigaone and Pegasos are just laughable and very expensive and totally overpriced for what little the user gets,
They must be rubbing their hands knowing full well they are going to get a mega massive profit out of the amiga users.

>Amiga do, some people will still bitch and whine....
Yeah, you keep telling yourself that. I hope it makes you feel better. But if you wish to open your mind for a moment, please consider this.
There are people in this thread commenting on Amiga Inc. and AmigaDE that have given them the benefit of the doubt. People who have purchased items from them. And learned the hard way.
I myself have also reviewed their products on many occasions and supported them when they got their start. But let me assure you, their products are crap.
I didn't want to see it at the time, I kept hoping this would improve, but it has not. Amiga Inc.'s publicly available products are very mediocre at best, and that is just me being generous...
Then come the lies. The ExtremeTech article is one good example of this, full of misinformation. Another is the AmigaOne fiasco last year when EyeTech finally blew Amiga Inc.'s cover and revealed that the OS4 and AmigaOne had not been progressing when Amiga Inc. kept selling Party Pack's with the premise that OS4 and AmigaOne were "on schedule and rockin'". And the incompetence. The coupon scheme was poorly implemented and now it seems people will not get the "early buyer" benefit from their coupons, in fact, there are not official instructions from the source as to how to use the coupons...
With this kind of legacy created in just three little years, there are a lot of disappointed and disillusioned people out there. They gave Amiga Inc. every chance, more than any other startup would have gotten. But Amiga Inc. has failed to be impressive or honest.
I mean, my God man, how can you expect people not to "bitch and whine" when Bill McEwen gives an interview with so many deliberate-looking mistakes as he did. If that was an isolated incident maybe it could be forgiven, but alas, it is not. It is a clear pattern that has been emerging during the past three years.

I really do think I'll stop visiting this site now.
I don't even know why I posted that comment here, to be honest. As Amiga even said, when they tried clearing things up on sites like this, they would just be flamed. But, they also got flamed for not doing so, so how are they supposed to win? The fact is; they can't. Not when there are so many small-minded people out there. I don't blame them for keeping quiet.
I know some people have their fingers crossed for Amiga to fail, but that's just pathetic. OS4.x needs funding & investment from the DE, if it is ever to reach OS5 level. Remember the idea behind the "digital revolution" & "write once, run everywhere..."? DE integration - Amiga chose to allow the OS to be developed on, for future versions, as a host for the DE in times to come.
If AmigaOS was to enter a general consumer market by itself, who do you think would be interested? Who would want to invest in it, when all it is to them, is "just another OS"? The DE is a key part to its future. For example, the M$ deal will bring in new investors, push the Amiga name back into the market and allow OS4.x to make its presence when it's ready for such a release. Without the DE, OS4.x would most probably follow the likes of BeOS and the others...
>>or that he doesn't even doubt to throw in some absolutely meaningless >>marketing numbers (from some clueless lawyer chattering about "kernel message >>signalling speeds").
I commented on such a topic, because firstly, they are not meaningless numbers. OS4 is not just a sraight port, but much more than that - Ben Hermans also pointed this out very clearly.
>>Just look at Eyetechs price for a IDE 16x CD Burner, its over twice the cost >>of a 24x LiteON cd burner from PCWorld.
Typical remark, not even worth commenting on...You should be able to work out the reasoning behind that one yourself.
Here is to Amiga & Hyperion. Here is to a bright future. Here is to the M$ deal.
Steve.

One main problem with the "Amiga" market is that there are all to few buying the hardware, let just pretend that suddenly we would have as large userbase as the x86 stuff had, then you would see prices around the same as for the x86.
Of course it's a bit strange that EyeTech increases the price of the A1 so much just for a small mark.
I can say that the Pegasos is worth the money and I can say it feels a lot faster than the G4 Mac I had tested before (was afraid the G3 with MorphOS would be even slower, but no).

> One main problem with the "Amiga" market is that there are all to few buying > the hardware,
But really selling more hardware at cheaper prices is the way like most (Non amiga) buisnesses are run,
Most companies can make a nice profit and the customers are happy with the prices, that is what amiga shops should aim at instead of the mega expensive old hardware, say if amiga hardware was a lot cheaper then many people would purchase it but as long the prices of amiga hardware stay at crazy silly prices then it just drives people to go elsewhere,
I know amiga hardware will always be more expensive than other hardware but when it gets out of hand like they are doing now it justs puts people off like myself who has used amiga hardware since the 80s but went x86 and amithlon because i could not afford a PPC card which cost about 5 times as much as i payed for my machine.
