Here Looks like the game is ready for production on the Mac. I'm pretty curious how well it runs under MOL.

Doesn't matter. Ann is not a place for Amiga only issues. As stated by the maitainer himself.

Considering this is a game that originated on the Amiga and was voted the #1 Amiga game of 2001, I don't see why not.
Lighten up.

A version that uses AHI so that it works on Pegasos (and AOne...) would be nice.
A fix so that the computer controled cars follow their part of the road when turning too :)

BTW I too don't think this news is Amiga-related enough to be here...

Wow, cool. The owner of the website CK stated this is no longer an Amiga related website, yet some people feel they have more say so than the site owner?

Are these 100% native ports, or do they embed Elate/the AACE? I think I heard the former a while back... the latter would be much cooler, of course. ;)

Paybacks an awesome game, hope an updated OS4 version will appear.
And playing payback on a Smartphone while sitting in the train next to some gba playing kid would be sure to cause some envy:-)

Well, most of the matters discussed here is amiga *related* in one way or another. But perhaps not *100% Amiga Only*.
(I think that is good BTW. It makes it possible to discuss Deathbed Vigil Videos, Amiga DE, MorphOS and other issues that might be of common interest to at least some of the people gathering around this forum.)

Speaking of which, I saw that Red Hat advertised an included Payback for Linux demo version on the extra discs in the retail version of RHL8.0. Has anyone who bought this tried it? (I DLed the free ISOs, which don't include that extras disc)
It's mentioned here:

Mac.. Speaking of which.. How about sending a modified version of your petition to Apple. I'm sure many people would like to see OS-X run native(without MOL) on alternative hardware.

As a Mac user let me put that idea to rest right here right now:
OPENSTEP was available for x86 and it didn't sell.
Last I checked Apple was a $7bil hardware company which, like everybody else does, subsidies OS development with sales of other products.
People expect all consumer OSs to cost $100. You should have seen the fuss when Apple charged $120! Even Microsoft subsidizes consumer OS development.
If Apple were to sell Mac OS X as a completely separate product they would cease to make a profit. We are the problem, we'll pay $700 for Photoshop, but for an OS which is even more complex? Naaa

Oh, and BTW Seehund's petition makes sense because Hyperion is a software company.

I fail to see what connection Apple and Amiga have.
Apple's stranglehold on the PowerPC? Apple doesn't even buy most of the PowerPCs which are sold every year. If anything Apple helps lower the price of PowerPCs due to economies of scale.
What the hell are you smoking?!

I no longer scour the net for news, but rely on user submissions. That way, if you think there is something that should be mentioned here on ANN and fits in with the items currently being displayed, take a minute to post a news submission.

It runs pretty damn sweet on my brother's 733Mhz G4 Mac. Frame rates
of around 50/60 fps - weave in and out of that traffic!

Amen.
Let's all bury ourselves into a hole and live happily together, without any connection with the rest of the world. Talk about a future!
Ever heard of a great guy named James Daniels who wrote a terrific Amiga game that he had to convert to other platforms because people would prefer to 'try' it instead of buy it?

Yes, I've played the Linux Payback demo from the Redhat 8 Pro CDs. I think it's too short to get a good feel for the game. We (my friends and I) remained undecided about purchasing the full version after trying it. Too hard to know if it would "last" or just be played for an hour and then discarded.
Works fine though. I don't know why it's not up on some web site for everyone to download, maybe the final product isn't quite finished yet?

Ah, back on topic again. :)
Yes, that's what I thought was strange. There's no mention of a Linux demo on apex-designs.net, and yet Red Hat say they have a demo with RHL8 which has been out for a while now. I would think that an existing Linux version (and x86 at that) would be a relatively "big" thing. Maybe there's an agreement between Daniels and RH for an initially RH-exclusive demo.
Thanks for the confirmation. It exists, good. :)
