On the fxPAINT-homepage you can now find benchmark results that document the speed gains through native support of x86 and PPC. The routines, already very fast on 68K, run - depending on the effect/operation - more than 7 times faster on an 180 MhZ PowerPC, more than 40 times faster on Amithlon running on a 850 MhZ Athlon. fxPAINT is an award-winning graphics program for AmigaOS, MorphOS, Amithlon, PowerUP and WarpUP covering many different fields of graphical applications. Besides others, more than 90 high quality effects for image processing, natural painting tools, image-managment, batchprocessing- and numerous internet tools are available to you. More information on fxPAINT can be found on the fxPAINT-homepage.

Great results! I'd like to see OS 4 benchmarks on an AmigaOne SE and XE.

wonder if the a1 g3@600 and the pegasos g3@600 benchmarks will be the same, or
will there be a difference ? or does it depends on compiler ?
and where is the G4 modules for pegasos ? any1 know ?

In reply to Comment 4 (catohagen):
It will mostly depend on the compiler (make and version) and OS, since the CPU and chipset will be the same. I doubt the presence or absence of firewire is going to matter much ;)

@CodeSmith
Sorry butt you are wrong about the compiler "make", it's GGC, the only thing that may differ
is the version number of the compiler that run on the different platforms and how optimized the code is,
this will probably not give large performance diffs, the compiler will not rewrite you're
source-code from scratch, it will only use the best instruction it know about,
and replace static muls with shift rotate and so on.
bay the way I use "make" to compile my HTML code at source forge, you know make is used to
make compiler scripts, they tell the compiler how it going to compile the source code,
there is in fact many different shell commands that do the compiling, make, gcc, cpp, cc1, as, ld.
@catohagen
and then again it all depends on you're gfx drivers and you're OS core, if you have layers on layers,
then you add latency and it cuts down on total performance when the CPU goes in to full CPU load,
what I'm saying an CPU can only perform X number of instructions with in lets say 1ms,
leasts say that average number is about 50000, they every task takes some percentage of that,
for every feature there is an performance lose, more futures more lost,
for every not needed feature their is some thing lost to nothing, (this is the emulation layers)
every running task tasks up an percentage of the 50000 instructions,
so it depends of number of running tasks in the background and the number
of stupid layers used by the OS.
So it depends on youre OS configuretion, youre OS core and GFX drivers.

why are you saying "you're == you are" all the time when you want to say "your" ?
you are compiler,
you are gfx card,
you are source code
> youre OS configuretion ?
does this mean your OS config gets an errection ?

Would I be too far off if I expect Athlon 800Mhz level performance on 800Mhz G4 ... ?

I was told that a G3 600 is performing equally to XP 1200.

@Kjetil
He didn't imply that "make" and "version" were compilers. He was just saying that the speed may differ depending on the make and version of the compiler being used.

I do not believe that.
PPC604/180 is somewhere between 1/5 and 1/10 of the speed of a A850Mhz.
So, even if G3/600 would be 3x faster than P180, it would be slower than the Athlon 850Mhz, not to mention 1200Mhz.
BTW. Does x86 versions of fxPaint modules use the multimedia instructions of the Athlon CPU?

>So, even if G3/600 would be 3x faster than P180,
It will be at least that.
The current PPC cards are severely crippled by their slow memory access and lack of L2 cache.

We have seen a very "lean" operating system so far...
I consider it to be an OS as soon as Q2 runs. :-)
