South Wales Amiga User Group has placed a review of the new Mediator 1200SX PCI busboard in the support section of the website. There will be a review of the Spider USB 2.0 card soon and the Lacie Hexadrive. If you are thinking of buying a Mediator 1200SX this Christmas have a look at the review!

As I was sick to read in the comments that the last HW companies working for the Amiga communauty were the Amiga cancer or whatever I deleted the complete thread and reposted it.
You have the liberty to think what you want about Elbox, Eyetech, Bplan/Thendic or anyone else. If you don't like them, don't buy their products but please don't use every thread to do stupid attacks that helps to destroy what left of this communauty.
I have my own opinion about how these companies could do better, how they did some mistakes but at the same time I have been involved in setting up small businesses and I really think that with knowing about the size of the Amiga market and having a some of the most terrible customers these company are taking huge risks for you guys sitting behind your computer and playing the flamewar game.
Once some of you will understand that there is not a good side or a bad side, that instead of spending your time flaming you could do something productive for the platform we will move forward. The people you criticize did much better for the Amiga than most of you will ever do. So one word: RESPECT

I would appreciate it, if you stop abusing your moderator status to delete everything that you don't like. THis is a FORUM for a reason, that you remove swearwords, or insulting stuff that's fine but don't remove complete threads.
Another such an instance and i WIL mail mr Kemp and complain.
Also you have clearly shown that you ARE supportive to the MOS cause and that you are clearly biased and altough i always argue with the MOS supporters (seems be getting more civilized though) i never ever thought of asking to remove stuff.
Have a nice day

More defenders of ELBOX and its Hard drive killer code,
The only amiga company i have a problem with is ELBOX and their stupid hard drive killer code,
The way you people defend ELBOX is disgusting, if that was any company which does not do amiga hardware then you people would be flaming the company like mad, but oh well its an amiga company so we all should ass lick them despite they current and past illegal activities.

I support Christophe's decision to remove the entire thread and repost the news item. Most of the comments added until then were either insulting Elbox, or going entirely off-topic and rehashing complaints about MorphOS/Pegasus that have been discussed to death already, and proven to be mostly un-informed and flamebait anyway.
Remember, ANN is all about embracing a variety of opinions. Flamebait, anonymous insults, or trolling does not fall into that category. Unfortunately, most of the comments in the deleted thread were of that nature, and as such it made sense to get rid of it before more people wasted their time in there.
One should also consider that Christophe and Teemu, for the time being, cannot moderate individual comments. As such, Christophe only had a choice between keeping the entire thread up, or removing it altogether.

I didn't know that Mr Decanini could not remove specific comments but only threads, i apologize then because NOW i can understand why he did that. I was under the impression he did it because there was information in the thread that was good for prospective Aone buyers (fixed DMA northbridge bug problem).
I can agree fully with ANN Moderators removing insulting posts up to the point they really ARE.
Mr Decanini, sorry

Then, PLEASE, put in place a BETTER moderating system. What you do is not moderation, it's censorship. Learn from Slashdot, OSNEWS and other place how to do so.

In reply to Comment 2 (Timothy De Groote):
People who gripe about computers or computer products should first learn proper punctuation, spelling, and appropriate use of capital letters in their sentences.
I mean it seems senseless to me to even have a computer if you already mis-use it by showing improper grammar.
The first fellow, possibly mis-spelled "community" with "communauty". Now I say possibly because judging from his name there might exist the chance he is from a non-English speaking nation and I don't want to insult his nationality.
However, it clearly wasn't a typo, since he repeated this possible spelling error a second time.
Now, enough of him and let's concentrate on the second individual. Who I must say seemed very hostile and angry towards the first soul.
This second person, who was seemingly blazing with emotion, had the nerve throughout his post to refer to himself with a lowercase letter. Everyone knows that proper usage to refer to oneself is to capitalize the "I". This self-respecting grammar usage was ignored.
I also noticed he inappropriatly capitalized the second letter of the word "The" making it look like: "THe".
If this was an attempt to emphasise the word, then he failed to capitalize the 3rd letter.
Now either his shift key isn't working, or he isn't depressing it at the correct time with his typing. Maybe that's a "hand-eye" coordination problem, a broken left or right SHIFT key problem, or this person was just so emotional he just didn't care.
Grammar apathy has gone on for far too long in the computer world and needs more attention as more posts are written. It's a pain to the eyes to see one write such mistakes in a thread. Furthermore, it diminishes the quality of what he's trying to communicate.
This person chose not only to write an ugly post to another user, but he also made it ugly to the eyes to even read. My eyes hurt still!
I should file a lawsuit against this individual for putting me through so much grief... ... but I will concede that he is probably just a young minor who has yet to learn grammar skills.
Either way, he should explore options that are available to users with such problems. A spell checker would be a nice start. Also maybe some anger management classes to help him control the urge to lash out. Writing when you are angry actually causes more spelling errors and typos!
It's sad to see letters of the alphabet wasted in such ways. And it's even more depressing to learn that it was caused over some anxiety relating to computers. I mean, if you don't even know how to properly type and spell, then you shouldn't even be using a computer in the first place. Right?
Here are the other words which were shamefully harmed in comment #2;
- altough (correct spelling is "although") I can forgive this as he did spell "though" correctly later on in the post. Must have been an emotional moment for the poor child.
- 3 total mis-uses of the word "I" (he used "i", a big no-no)
Other unbelievable things I noticed in user #2's posting.
If user #1 is indeed a "Moderator" of the forum, then why oh why has Timothy dared to challenge his authority? I mean correcting spelling mistakes of a mod can be understood, but to accuse a human being of being abusive publicly?
I'm surprised the said person does not sue Mr. De Groote for slander.
But what really gets me is that the person had the gaul to end his post with "Have a nice day" As if they is going to excuse the horrible grammar mistakes previously made..... oh and as well as the mean spirited comment to the other person.
I just don't understand some people. It's as if someone spends 10 minutes being very rude to you, then as he's leaving acts all nice about it and wishes you well.
Maybe he's on drugs. Who knows?

Please make sure all comments are one way only, any comments which may sound negative to any aspects of the Amiga platform will be removed,
Please turn a blind eye to all illegal activites by Amiga dealers which they deserve your support and NEVER say anything about those illegal activites because ANN does not want the truth to be told,
Enjoy your stay and remember feel free to express any pro Amiga comments.

A better moderation system takes time to develop, troubleshoot, test and eventually maintain on a daily basis.
And of course Slashdot has a lot of trouble with their moderation system as well, and moderators are regularly accused of being biased.
ANN's system might not be perfect, but it should really be sufficient for a site getting less than half a million pageviews a month.
If I review every single of my moderations, I cannot see a single occurance where I removed something because I had a differing opinion. All moderations were done because some individual (and mostly an anonymous one at that) was posting insults or trolling...

ANN's system is not a moderation system, it's a censorship one. Moderating means "to make something more moderate", doesn't mean "to delete something from the earth's surface". You don't need to _exactly_ copy the slashdot's system, but you can take inspiration from the OSNews' one, where the offending post is just _moved_ from the main page to another, hidden place, and a link to that hidden place is put in place of the original post. That shouldn't be harder than deleting the post: just implement a "moderate" operation and use it instead of the "delete" one.
There are really no excuses to not do that.

I don't agree. The kind of stuff I'm removing is mostly childish, immature garbage. There's really no need to have it available anywhere. (And as a matter of fact, I'm not really deleting comments or news, just making sure that nobody can read them.)
If somebody writes that I'm a fucking moron, I'm removing that post; seeing how it is a personal insult and was just posted to cause trouble. If somebody says, in a civil way, that he doesn't agree with my point of view, the post will stay, and hopefully we can have a constructive discussion (just like we are, now :)

But you do realize that that's censorship and not moderation? Someone could say "who are you to judge my post a childish one?", I myself wouldn't take the responsibility of deciding which post is good and which post is not, up to the extent of deleting the bad one: there are far too many opinions to consider, here, as many as are the people reading ANN, I'd dare to say, and probably even more than that, therefore I would not delete any item, just put there somewhere else: if people still want to respond to them should have the right to, specially if they spent a lot of their time writing other posts that suddendly get removed.

Hehehe, I am sure your post partially, or completely was with tongue in cheek :-D
But I don`t know if you made those mistakes on purpose and I didn`t want to
point them all out ;-P I like a proper use of language most of the time, but I
sure do make enough mistakes, though I have got an excuse, being Dutch and all :-)
Cases like "there instead of they`re", "your instead of you`re", "an unit
instead of a unit" etc, i don`t like. But the intentional grammar and spelling
mistakes programmers and such often make, like using the lower case "i" cause
they don`t like to appear egocentric, or no capital at the start of the sentence as it
wastes time etc, I do like, in a way. See:

What I don't understand is why Hyperion, or at least members of it, should be so against the Pegasos - after all, it is another potential outlet for your product.
As for whatever bugs the Pegasos may have now... i'm pretty sure they will implement the same or a similar fix as the AOne has, or MAI logic will revise the northbridge to remove the problem. I have heard that the problem was first discovered by bPlan engineers, how true this is i'm not sure but if it is it seems to me that AOne has already benefited from the competing Pegasos.
By not giving (potential) developers a choice of system, you are only discouraging them from developing for your platform.

There won't be any MAI-NBs without the bug before next summer (read Eyetech

I know I've been critical of you in the past Chris D, and you probably hate my guts, but well done. This is exactly why we need moderators. Hardly any one can argue with the fact that mediator is probably the best pci solution for the amiga. However in the beginning when there was 2 serious choices (mediator&prometheus) I felt prometheus and it's planned big brother's could have become just as viable or maybe even more viable option than the mediator is now.
We will probably never know what would have happened if things had'nt gone the way they did. I don't know if the allegations proposed here on ann about elbox's way of strangling competitors in poland are true or not, but it seems to me they have proven themselves being able to use questionable business tactics and morale.
Anyway my point is that it could have just aswell been the other way around with amiga pci solutions.
