Fake potentially dangerous OS 4 beta circulating We have been informed that there is a fake OS 4 beta circulating supposedly produced by HYPErion (!) which contains "amusing" commentary such as "x megabytes leaked but OS 4 will have virtual memory anyway". It is possible that this archive contains malicious code and we therefore urge users not to download and run it.

If you run it on a Pegasos it formats your hard drive!

In reply to Comment 5 (catohagen):
It didn't leak. It's a fake. The two "rom" files are actually JPEG images of Steffen and Ben, and lamely enough done with Photoshop (come on, do these kiddies have no guts left to do it on the Amiga?). The rest just outputs garbage, and displays a blatant lack of knowledge in calling the ABI "Server 5" instead of "System V", and using the text that is usually quoted before vgr.com news messages as copyright...
Dear kiddies who did this, my name is "Hans-Joerg", nor "Jans-Joerg". You could at least spell my name right :-)

How are we supposed to know? For all I know this *could* contain some harmful code, so its only fair to warn people.

Was that my posting? No.
Next time please if you want to make fun of me (by putting my name all over the place) please use the mistakes that I made, or the display of lack of knowledge from myself, not that of others.
Thank you.

Hi! Welcome to joytest to test PSX joypads! This program is for
OS4 ONLY. Not for PowerUP or MorphOS which are not plain C code but
code written by Ralph Schmidt and using Server V (note: I have nothing
personal against Ralph Schmidt).

Resistance is futile.
AmigaOS4 (the real one) will rule!

For all who want a very own copy of this little gag I cached it on my homepage (http://dreamolers.meanmachine.ch/priv/os4_beta.lzx). As far as I know (tested this on several machines, incl my Pegasos) it's completly harmless.
Have fun!
Ps
1. I'm only caching this stuff ;)
2. Don't take this stuff too serious

In reply to Comment 21 (Jacek Piszczek):
I don't know this stuff, it *could* be potentially dangerous, that is why we posted the warning.
It's not as if the authors wrote me a mail say "it's completely harmless" :-)

Maybe it'll be the only OS4 that will ever come out.
I need to have it in my s/w archive - lest we forget
about the historical effort :)

Thanks for caching. Text in picture was funny, but when I've read run_kernel insides, it almost costed me my tea :-D
Someone please make some pictures (or anim) with ANN posters inside ;-)

In reply to Comment 24 (Felix):
It's comments like these that almost make me glad OS4 took so long. All the impatient, immature, uninspired, tunnel-vision clones out there will have been weeded out, leaving more True Amiga systems for those more deserving.
Ignore twerps like this guy, Hyperion/A Inc. They'll either shut up or turn into complete ass-kissers when they discover the competition isn't on par with the best.

Yes, i was just kidding arround :-))
I didn't even download or see the archive,
i was at my work having a fun day, and i
thought it was fun to post this useless
information.
The fact people are making fun stuff about
something, also shows people are interested
in it.
Bye

I'm starting to think someone ought to make an updated version of the Amiga OS even though there isn't any new hardware being developed. It probably won't end up going anywhere but it's nice to have as many alternatives to windows as possible.
