Download GoldED Barebones is a retro-look ultra-fast editor designed for users who enjoy working with CygnusED and other classic Amiga editors. It's derived from GoldED AIX, with an equally impressive set of core features, ranging from syntax highlighting to folding, but with muted graphics, and a CygnusED-inspired configuration. GoldED Barebones does not include development environments, nor HTML support and definitely no FAX button. Didn't take long, couple of afternoons, and it was raining. Never tested it with a real Amiga though, (btw, has anybody installed the recent version of WinUAE ? It's horribly unstable on my PC).

with Regnet or Paypal, then you get rid of the extra cost with cd duplication and

CD duplication costs are close to nothing. Paypal probably charges more for their services. But the reason for using a CD is that the software's keyfile is 64 MB (and it's so huge because otherwise it would be

No. But when installing a service pack, you are required to insert the CD (different service packs are encoded with different keyfile segments). The purpose of the keyfile is to stop pirated software from beeing easily upgradable, so that people using such software realize that they are excluded from upgrade services on my web site.
Some time ago, I had a PHP script on the download page that would ask for the serial number before admitting you to the latest update. About 30% of the visitors tried to get in with the same hacked serial from a Russian warez group (and a sizeable number with idiotic numbers like 123 or with serials from the PC program GoldED, wich, regrettably, has nothing to to with GoldED Amiga, but how would Google know that ;-)

Let your old buddies sell "licensed" 180 GB IBM... sorry, "AmigaOne HD"... harddrives with a hefty Trademark Tax price, and let them make a 170 GB partition hosting the OS keyfile! Actually, it's mostly meant as an inconvenience for the distributing side (ie. illegal ftp servers), not for the downloading site. 64 MB x 16 downloads equals 1 GB traffic, now go do the math with sensible download numbers. The free GoldED 5 software was downloaded roughly 4000 times.

GoldED Studio AIX is the final (new and commercial) version as far as my work on the project is concerned, it will not be followed up by GoldED 8, unless somebody purchases the sources and takes over.
I'll continue to provide small scale support for the software while useful to Amiga users (while OS3 software is used). "Small scale" is obviously bugfixes, but also everything that can be added on weekends when I have nothing better to do. That will mostly be add-ons like the recently released gcc integration.
Future enhancements might possibly include a XML-based syntax parser "for everything"
and a TeX mode. Thinking about it, there is a lot that can be improved without ever touching GoldED, enough ideas for years, if somebody is intereded ? GoldED's add-on interfaces is amazingly flexible ;-)
Here are some things that can NOT be expected: No porting to any of the new emerging Amiga platforms (OS4, AROS, morphos), unless I get paid and the hardware is provided. No major changes to GoldED. The main deficit that I am aware of and which will not be addressed is lack of support for multiple views on one file. Otherwise I believe GoldED needs no major restructuring anyway.
Ohne thing that CAN be expected: more bugs. I no longer have the technical means to enforcer-test my software, that's making Amiga development complicated.

Just as a visitor, have to have a look the C=1 :) What again was the POKE for changing the colors ? It started with 5, I think.

What about doing same thing as happened with Blender (3D software).
Try to collect enough money (100000 EUR in case of Blender) in a fund
to buy the sources and then make it open source. Worked fine with
Blender. They managed to collect all the money from the Blender-community
in just 7 weeks.

Free editors ? Go to Aminet, there are loads of them, some with source code. FrexxED comes to mind (good), and the horrible unix editors. Don't hit me :-)

Some of the concepts in these Xerox editors have been incorporated into editors running on more reasonably named operating systems - EMACS and VI being two. The problem with these editors is that Real Programmers consider "what you see is what you get" to be just as bad a concept in Text Editors as it is in women. No the Real Programmer wants a "you asked for it, you got it" text editor - complicated, cryptic, powerful, unforgiving, dangerous. TECO, to be precise.
It has been observed that a TECO command sequence more closely resembles transmission line noise than readable text [4]. One of the more entertaining games to play with TECO is to type your name in as a command line and try to guess what it does. Just about any possible typing error while talking with TECO will probably destroy your program, or even worse - introduce subtle and mysterious bugs in a once working subroutine.

WinUAE has winuaeenforcer which seems to catch my enforcer hits just fine. The only thing it doesn't seem to do is cause the debugger (cpr in my case) to automatically halt on the line where the hit occored!
