Okay, got it, nice full-of-nothing .pdf.
Now, where the hell I can buy the cd, so that I can try by myself if I'm finally able to fix the clock/date on my a1200??

Well that's me decided then!!
PPC MUI, CyberGraphX, AHI and best of all Ambient is based on MUI!!! How good looking is this system going to be out of the box!!
This morning is was going to be AOS4.0, now it's MorphOS :-)

Ha, well IMHO MUI looks ten times better and is a hell of a lot more configurable than ReAction will ever be!
It's also a hell of a lot easier to create applications using MUI than with ReAction.
Just my opinion though!! :-)

Whow, impressive list.
Does "graphics library: true color" mean that one can finally forget the pen system ? That would be fantatsic. I'd love to do SetAPen(rast, rgb) and then render with that color, ie. Text() etc.

Well spoof posting aside, the MUI used in MorphOS might be a hell of a lot
better than the MUI that I know and despise.
In fact I find both Reaction and MUI irritating from a developer perspective
but MUI also irritating from a user perspective.
Yep, subjective all right! :-)

Yep. This is exactly that, though you use new tags with SetRPAttrA.

Interesting how the word 'Amiga' isn't mentioned in the document. Don't products beyond reproach usually just include trademarks?

Biggest irrtation of MUI I remeber (used years ago) was that it was allways Demoversion (not worth registering IMHO) so I could never get those MUI programs to look/behave way I wanted. I now hope MOS people have made deals to there base program coders (Poseidon, MUI, Amitcp, Turboprint) that those would be bundlend full versions with OS...
We have had enough of these 'demos' like Miami/dx on OS3.X and Poseidon on Elbox-usb.. No more those, please.

There is a list that covers most of that online, and which has been linked

But, well perhaps we will have to wait as long after the release of AmigaOS4

format you want.

This looks quite impressive, in all fairness. I've never been a MOS fan, largely due to the attitude of some of the developers, but I have to say this looks nice.
OTOH, just how different is this to the OS4 feature list in reality (if we had one)? I mean, claiming Turboprint and other 3rd-party emulated apps as part of the OS is unfair, UNLESS OS4 is *unable* to use TP or PFS etc.
How compatible is this OS to the real AmigaOS? How many 68K emulated exe's really work? What are the limitations? I ask because, regardless of enthusiastic hobbyist coders, the real future (if there is any) of this or any other Amiga related platform is going to be built on what software is available to run on it NOW. That means, sadly, emulated stuff for a good while yet.

MMMh, from a developer point of view, if you find MUI irritating what GUI system do you like?
I actually use almost daily GTK at work and it's quite powerful, anyway I often miss the semplicity and flexibility of the C macros that let you define at hand a MUI gui with very few lines of code.
No builder (Visual Studio + MFC, QT + QT Designer, GTK + Glade...) it's enough flexible for compex GUIs, without external code. I've had a lot of headaches to find out what code to write to implement a particular GUI effect not provided by the toolkit (typically the problems are with dynamical interface changes)
MUI had a poor builder, MUIBuilder, useful only for fast prototyping, but it's cleaner and faster than the GUI libraries I listed when you have to write your GUI code at hand.
The main point against MUI WAS it was slow, now MUIPPC flies on my poor 604e/180mhz... I'd really like to have an easy to program, good looking and light interface library, like MUI is, on Linux & Windows to use it for the programs I write at work....
Bye,
Gabry

I think you need to take concern that most of those things mentioned on list are Native-PPC-MOS softwares (like new MUI and Poseidon- usb stack for example..).. I don't know about current release status of turboprint though.. But I have this feeling that putting it into list would suggest Bundled (fully working) native version.

You mean like claiming IB2.3 (which will be 68k-only) as part of OS4 ?
The filesystems and so ARE allready in PPC, and I don't see any reason why TP shouldn't
be recompiled for PPC. And just if you didn't get it TP will be included/bundled with
every copy of MorphOS.

Because no such list exists for OS4. Because the programmers still aren't /exactly/ sure what will or won't be included in OS 4.0. They've said as much on the OS4 Yahoo list. PCI Drivers? They don't know. 3D support? Probably not much. USB? Don't know. Filesystems? Yes, PPC. Which? Don't know. Hopeless.
Also because OS4 is a long way from release still. The first "earlybird" systems may be delivered in the UK by Christmas (I doubt it, but it could happen) but you won't be running OS4 on your A1 until Easter 2003 at best.

Hmmmmm very good question. I like Motif 2 a lot, I liked PM on OS/2. I don't
like Swing,AWT,JFACE2000 or Eclipse, all of which in my view are wrong turnings.
None stand out, for me the non irritating GUI development route probably hasn't been invented yet.

In general every RTG-compatible multitasking software should work.
But:
- BCPL programs wont work
- MMU hacks wont work
- Software accessing custom ships wont work (except on BPPC/CSPPC systems)
- Software accessing undocumented OS functions/structures mostly wont work
- System patches (MCP, Executive etc.) are not recommended
Some libraries must be updated to native PPC versions (ixemul.library)

I find that hard to believe. Surely, under 68k emulation at least, dos.library still returns BPTRs where appropriate, otherwise you'll break pretty much all compatibility with AmigaOS 3.x (programs will be needlessly multiplying pointers by 4, and then crashing).

Hi,
Please (begging) don't turn this into a MUI discussion. :-) When I still used my 060/pIV Amiga I quite enjoyed MUI. I'm not a MorphOS user, but I can imagine how MUI PPC would fly on the Pegasos. I can imagine how it's just "there", rock solid(?) and, as Ambient is multithreaded, very responsive. Now that'd be something to enjoy.
MorphOS is, imho, looking better and more consistent for each announcement that is put out about it. I'd like to know more. If I ever find the money for one, I think I might just buy a Pegasos and start coding stuff for MorphOS.
Sure, it does appear as a "package" of MorphOS core components and then some contributed/licensed software to fill the gaps that Genesi didn't manage (want to) to work out themselves yet, but on the other hand we'll just have to remember that: a) so does AmigaOS 4.0, and b) out-sourcing is not necessarily a bad thing.

Peter, you do realize difference between BPTR and BCPL?
BCPL is a language, BPTR is a pointer type from BCPL.
BPTR is just a pointer type, not the language itself.
Removing BCPL support does *not* mean that that all BPTR are magically turned into APTRs.
Yes, BPTRs are still BPTRs like before, but BCPL apps don't run (they display warning requester instead and terminate the application).

Quite an impressive feature-list there for MorphOS! Nice one.
And, given that MorphOS has already been seen in tangeable form publically (as opposed to some screenshots), I think that's the question answered for me. Time to get ready to order a Pegasos just as soon as MorphOS is formally launched.
