And judging from the logo they use, apparently it's an Amiga.

Comments are verrrryyy bad actually...
Not surprising at all as the people who posted the comments
don't seem to be amigans, and so, don't undertand what advantage
there would be to use such an OS with few software, or old software,
little support, oldish GUI etc...
But amigans like us see things differently fortunately.

There maybe 100 word processors, but most people would only use one or two good ones so the extra 98 would be irrelevant to them.
Anyone studying weblogs would also notice that dispite some choice, people still gravitate to a very small number of browsers.

Well, it's slashdot, isn't it? ;-)

Anyobody who has the slightest insight into the Amiga platform knows that there is a huge amount of software. Sure, a lot of the apps are quite old, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad. A lot of *good* applications was never ported to other platforms, and is therefore still Amiga Exclusive! The Pegasos/MorphOS platform is a new platform, but through it's Amiga compatibility it will have a flying start that BeOS (when it first was introduced) would have been very jellous about. And the new software will hardly be old (well, DUH!!).
;-)

Absolutely! :-)

Which is why it was foolish to allow someone to put the article up on Slashdot. This was always going to be the result.
I cringe everytime I see an Amiga related article on Slashdot, it is as if the
submitters do not know what the result will be. If they also go and look at Bills statement on YDL the flames will really start to roll in.
Stay under the radar until better prepared to deal with the "Can I run Word on this?" or "Does this have OpenOffice" or "Why isnt this free" or "What has this got to do with Linux" morons.

I believe there will allways be that kind of comments on slashdot, no matter of how prepeared you are. It's slashdot! But not all of the comments are *that* bad actually. And one can not expect everybody to think positively about products just because they are Amiga related. There will allways be some people with a different oppinion. Especially on slashdot.
Everyone has a different oppionion on slashdot, no matter of what the discussion is about ...

An idea: How about building a OS4 cross-compiler for MorphOS... ;D
Not a "killer" application, but anyway... perhaps more appealing than using linux + cross-compiler combination...

You can't have been using Linux lately. It is super modern in every aspect of the OS. And the applications too. Kde 3.0.x, Gnome 2.0.x, X4.2.x and kernel 2.4.x makes Linux one of the heavyweights in the OS industry.
No wonder it is number 3 of all operating systems.

Well, it was fun to see MorphOS get smashed on Slashdot. I wouldn't say the comments were biased, I think they were very credible actually. Most were simply asking why anyone would want to pay for a system that looks rather dated and has no software. It's a damn good question and it's something I too would like to have answered.
I still believe MorphOS is doomed to failure and only Amiga with it's name recognition stands a small chance at survival. I'm really not holding my breath for either but to me it's clear MorphOS is dead before it even begins, it has no real future and honestly I couldn't care less about it. The only thing I wish would be to seperate the Amiga name from MorphOS entirely. I wish Slashdot would no longer use the Amiga logo when posting MorphOS articles. It just makes the real Amiga look bad and hurts it's chances of any recovery.

@Monsoon
"You can't have been using Linux lately."
Yup, lately.
"It is super modern in every aspect of the OS."
File-management, and user interface, it's "so-so", not modern. It get's by maybe, but it's still playing catch up.
"And the applications too. Kde 3.0.x, Gnome 2.0.x, X4.2.x and kernel 2.4.x"
What applications? What can you do in Linux that makes Linux a "must-have" as far as desktop applications? Linux's "killer-app" is Apache. not exactly a staple for the desktop. Linux at best manages to sometimes be "equal" as far as applications are concerned, but where does it surpass Windows in applications for the desktop? My comment still stands.
"makes Linux one of the heavyweights in the OS industry. "
What do you mean "one of" the heavyweights? there are only three common OS's used on the desktop, and Linux is last. it's very very RARELY even considered on the desktop. this is constructive critisism, the desktop is years behind and needs to be innovate rather than going the "lets catch up to Windows" approach.
"No wonder it is number 3 of all operating systems"
read:"last"

yep, I share your view...morphos have been developed in 3-4 years..and
thats developing something they know how workes, so that shouldnt be so
difficult...now they must start developing their *real* OS, using q-box
and interract with the quark kernel directly, it should take another 3-4 years
with their crew....where will the cash come from to pay for all this ?
and the "we don't need amiga inc" lip they're putting everywhere, but the
amiga name keep popping up in every announcement they do...its bad about
the news sites sticking amiga boingballs to mos news...
I understand some buying their stuff before they go bankrupt....good stuff for collectors :)
