E3B starts a poll regarding an expansion module with BootROM for the popular HIGHWAY USB controller, as well as collecting users comments / improvements for the planned new HIGHWAY II.
Just take a look on the poll page. There's everything explained :)
Thanks in advance for any constructive comments !

An SDRAMM socket would be a nice addition.

these machines some extra ram quickly. It's a common problem to get
something like the A4000 to 16 megs fast ram, then have to look at
either an expensive dkb3128 card, or something expensive like a
warpengine 040 card.
With a simm socket of some sort on it, people would buy it even just
for that, if the price was decent. |

Posted by Iggy Drougge on 19-Dec-2002 02:52 GMT | In reply to Comment 3 (NeRP): The problem with RAM on a Zorro III card is that the RAM will run at 80% of the speed of the motherboard RAM, and even the 16MB on the mobo aren't blazing fast. Nevertheless, slow RAM is much, much better than no RAM (I know, I have most of my RAM on a Fastlane Z3). Though SDRAM doesn't seem that easily integrated into the Amiga architecture, though I don't know why, but people always say so. |

Posted by Ian Chapman on 20-Dec-2002 00:00 GMT | In reply to Comment 4 (Iggy Drougge): To be quite honest, I really don't know why a Zorro III RAM board hasn't been made in recent years. The prices for things like the DKB3128 (probs FastLane too) are so high because they are rare and offer the ability to add another massive chunk of memory to your machine. Other than Accelerators there's very little way to add large chunks of memory (ie more than 32MB). I've got 154MB and whilst that is more than sufficient for running most Amiga software I do a lot of stuff in ImageFX for example where a single picture can easily use 100MB, and there's plenty of other productivity apps which would make use of it. I wouldn't care if it was a board with 4 (or better still, 8) 72pin SIMM slots even if it is slow. I would love to add another 128MB or more to this miggy. |
