Alan Redhouse has posted message in the "AmigaOne" Yahoo group.
It's mainly a list of excuses for the delayed shipment of Teron boards.
* E-mail has been left unanswered allegedly due to Eyetech being "mailbombed by viruses" and a DoS script run against their web server.
* For some strange reason Motorola was to deliver CPUs to Eyetech, but they haven't done so.
* Eyetech will, like any other distributor, have to wait for the Teron PX to be finished, including the bugfixed Articia (which still has no bugs, there's only the old VIA DMA bugs according to Eyetech's message).
* The previously announced shipping date for the Teron PX came from an employee who hadn't been brought up to date.
* "All but a few" Teron CX boards and systems have been shipped now.
* Those who won't get their Teron CXes will get a special offer for Teron PXes with PPC750FX (G3) CPUs.
* The "Earlybird" preordering offer for the Teron PX with a "free" copy of AmigaOS will be extended to the end of January.
* Teron CXes with the (non-existing...) Articia bugs can be exchanged for Teron PXes "at current list price less the original A1G3-SE
percentage discount with full credit being given for the original amount
paid", whatever that could be, plus shipping.
* The web site will be updated with shipping status information on Monday.
* In order to not miss Christmas sales, Eyetech shipped the Teron CX boards without any OS. CDs with SuSE GNU/Linux will be shipped on Monday (not the full retail version). It's the vanilla SuSE 7.3 PPC, without specific Teron support.
* It is "proven by MAI [sic] after extensive testing" that the VIA DMA bugs are unrelated to the Articia northbridge. Well, duh. :-D Eyetech still believes that the bugfixes for the Articia has something to do with previously known issues with the VIA southbridge. Alan also lets us know that the different southbridge of e.g. the Pegasos is "of that family"...
* For Eyetech's own sales, a specific Kingston SDRAM DIMM will be "standardised on".
* To provide the legally regulated minimum warranty period of the EU (24 months), the price of the Terons will be "adjusted to reflect the higher cost" of that for EU customers. It is not mentioned if non-Kingston-sold-by-Eyetech SDRAM will be among the "non-recommended" hardware that will invalidate this warranty.
It is asked that further comments/questions about Alan's message should be sent to info@eyetech.co.uk for inclusion in the web site update on Monday.

Giver shit. I don't care. I'll just chalk it up to the MorphOS camp

Eyetech have introduced and sold a large range of hardware. The most
notable is their custom computer range based on the A1200 motherboard,
which I reviewed at length in Amigactive magazine.
They have many satisfied customers in the UK and are known as honest
and reliable suppliers. For example, one of my friends had a CD drive
and a sound card fitted to his A1200 by Eyetech. The job was very
neatly and professionally done, and it worked perfectly.
Their advertising played a large part in keeping Amigactive magazine
going as long as it did. |

Posted by squashgut on 22-Dec-2002 07:51 GMT | In reply to Comment 98 (Anonymous): I've known NeRP for years and he's always kick/banned Pirates from IRC channels he's been on. I can safely say that he has a temper when it comes to Amiga software pirates and has a reputation over 3 IRC servers for permently banning people entering the channels where he's an operator and asking for warez.
ITS A FACT JACK: NeRP has denied being a pirate on this forum and his reputation I mentioned above can vouch for his clean record in this.
ITS A FACT JACK: Peter, (yes that's who he is) has attempted slander on the forum. Slander is when you spout of an untruth about someone in an attempt to "blacken" their name.
EVIDENCE?
Below is comment #88 of this thread:

Says you Nerp when your are a complete amiga pirate fuck head, get back to your EL1t3 wanky irc channel and continue to pirate amiga apps you lame ass bastard."
Please notice the IP address which appears after the nickname of "Peter" It is the IP address "62.252.128.4. Pretty distinguishable.
Now let's check out comment # 98 shall we???
"Posted by Anonymous (62.252.128.4) on 22-Dec-2002 04:43:47
Lame ass pirate. "
Once again. Note the IP address. WOW it's the same IP! Holy shit! Could it be? Could it be our Little Peter?
Of course this post was directed at NeRP since it followed this other post #97:
"Posted by Anonymous (80.5.0.63) on 22-Dec-2002 04:42:41
Nerp does not like QUOTE "Emulamers" on his channel but that 2 faced bastard is a fucking PIRATE and i can prove it 100%, FFS me and him even traded warez, take your dick out of his ass and learn the truth."
Not only are these two chickens spreading falsehoods about an honorable Amiga user, but also by concealing their identity or normal nicknames, they attempt to hide under the cover of an annonymous nick for fear they will lose face.
Well.. today is exposing day. We now know that little Peter made post #98. And that he is guilty of slander against NeRP. As well as that other fellow who while incognito thought he could fool us with an annonymous nick too...
However, I did a DNS on both nicks. And I found out something interesting...
(Little) Peter: *** Resolved 62.252.128.4 to inktomi1-ren.server.ntl.com
Annonymous : *** Resolved 80.5.0.63 to public2-oldh2-3-cust63.oldh.broadband.ntl.com
Interesting eh? Those IP's currently exist on a banlist in #AmigaGames on DALNET IRC. Where both of those people at different times have showed up asking for warez. It's a bannable offense in #AmigaGames to ask for warez yet these two butthorns show up and beg for it. And what's worse... here is the whois information of LilPeter on the day he wrote that post about NeRP. Apparently he came to IRC and got banned when he asked for warez.
Heh.. it's funny but you can always tell what kind of person someone is just by doing a /whois on them.........
/whois LilPeter
LilPeter is mos@inktomi1-ren.server.ntl.com * MorphOS
LilPeter on #amigagames #morphos #xxxwarez #!!!#dogsex #win95
Win95! l33t! pffffft!
Heh... Fortunately he was banned soon afterwards from AmigaGames when he requested warez. Below is the log of the exciting event!
*** LilPeter (mos@inktomi1-ren.server.ntl.com) has joined #AmigaGames
<LilPeter> Hello?
<LilPeter> got any free games?
<LilPeter> !list
*** NeRP sets mode +b *!*@inktomi1-ren.server.ntl.com
*** LilPeter has been kicked out of #AmigaGames by NeRP (homosexuality is not an excuse!)
The banlist:
*** Retrieving #AmigaGames info...
*!*@inktomi1-ren.server.ntl.com
*!*@public2-oldh2-3-cust63.oldh.broadband.ntl.com
Now it's obvious they are just trolls out for revenge on NeRP for banning them.
So who's the pirate now Little Dick... er I mean Little Peter?
and Mr. Sneaky? (who btw freely admitted that he himself was a pirate in post #97)
LOL. |

A bunch of rather lame excuses by Alan (again), and still the it is the
messenger (and ann.lu) the crowd wants to hang.
a) Alan buys Teron boards, just like Terrasoft and others, and then someone
reflashes them with PPCBoot+dongle. A1 won't be available before Terons are
available at Terrasoft. Terrasoft says Q1/03 for the CX, and doesn't even
mention the PX. Somehow i trust them more then Alan when it comes to HW.
b) Virusses: Use a descent piece of virus-SW and something else than Outlook,
no problem and something noone (outside this community) would except as excuse.
c) Board exchange: So someone who has gotten a clearly faulty product will not
only have to pay shipping (back and forth), but will also be forced to buy an
more expensive version ? I just gave my old one to Thierry and received a new
one, no questions asked.
And yes I can use 1280x1024x32 without any problem. |

The "news item" itself was hardly unbiased reporting, therefore the messenger is asking for what he gets.
"a) Alan buys Teron boards, just like Terrasoft and others, and then someone

Sorry dear, but the G3SE (aka Teron CX) has already shipped and people have posted here and elsewhere that they received one. Perhaps it might occur to you that Terrasoft placed their order *after* Eyetech, and therefore had to wait their turn?
"b) Virusses: Use a descent piece of virus-SW and something else than Outlook,

That is an extremely myopic version of the situation. Whether you use a Windows, Mac or PC server, if a really determined asshole wants to bring your site down, they will. Not all virii rely on Outlook. Not every virus will be instantly detected by AV software, especially if it's very recent, or rare, or created to attack that particular server.
"c) Board exchange: So someone who has gotten a clearly faulty product will not
only have to pay shipping (back and forth), but will also be forced to buy an

Where does it say that the user will have to pay carriage on a board that turns out to be faulty?
Vocabulary 101: "upgrade" does not equal "replace because faulty"
It is usual for the consumer to pay at least a small contribution when upgrading a piece of equipment. Didn't Thendic set the G3-> G4 upgrade fee at 200 euros... not, of course, that anyone's mentioned receiving one yet?
"I just gave my old one to Thierry and received a new
one, no questions asked."
So you got a faulty Pegasos board, then.
"And yes I can use 1280x1024x32 without any problem."
And? What's that got to do with anything? |

- If it wasn't for the BIOS work done by Hyperion, there wouldn't be a Terrasoft board...I think you under-estimate the amount of work that has gone on behind the scenes by Hyperion/Eyetech and the A1 betatesters....
This isn't the crappy AmigaDE...if you guys wanna bash Amiga Inc - go ahead, I don't give a shit. Hyperion & Eyetech have done nothing wrong....so the dates have slipped back abit - big deal...You lamers have waited long enough for a new machine - so chill. All will be revealed soon enough. |

Yep, but only very few (only 3 in Aachen for example) and still with DMA-probs
as it seems.
>Whether you use a Windows, Mac or PC server, if a really determined asshole

It is still a lame excuse, and I wouldn't accept that from anyone.
>Where does it say that the user will have to pay carriage on a board

Read the f***ing news:
"Any pre-November 2 unfixed A1G3-SE developer boards can be exchanged for
A1-XE G3 or G4 boards at current list price less the original A1G3-SE
percentage discount with full credit being given for the original amount
paid. The user and/or dealer will however be asked to pay for carriage both
ways."
Hint: Unfixed = faulty

Maybe someone doesn't want to upgrade, but only a fixed G3 ? Maybe because he
can't afford more ?

> Maybe someone doesn't want to upgrade, but only a fixed G3 ?
> Maybe because he can't afford more ?
And what if the product isn't made/available anymore ? You expect Eytech to just give a more expensive product for free ?
Even a bigshot like Compaq or Nokia don't do that.. (Nokia exchanged the 8810 for the 8850 when it was obvious the coated 8810 wasn't all that.. They exchanged them for free for about 2 weeks, and when it turned out that "all" 8810 owners where returning them they asked for the difference in price to be paid.. Considering how much bigger Nokia is the Eyetech..)
Come to think of it, many company's offer a better product for the price difference when the bought product is defective, even when the same product isstill available..
I do find it strange the customer is to pay for shipping tho when the product is faulty and under warranty, but it is normal for the dealer to pay the shipping cost.. (as it is normal for the dealer to claim these costs to the manufactor if the product is fixed under warranty, or claim it to the customer when it isn't fixed under warranty..)
Anyway, maybe Alan should nopt have posted all excuses/reasons for the delay.. Instead of reporting a virus atttack, just state server troubles. ;)
> Didn't Alan say something like "anything over 768x1024x8 doesn't work" ?
I believe he did yes..

About the exchange:
Alan should have just made the board-exchange a priority over selling
to new costumers, like Genesi did. Just a simple survey:
Who want's his G3 fixed, and who wants to upgrade (and wait)at a cost ?
And after that he could have sold the remaining boards.
Atleast those who got there boards directly from Eyetech (~90% of all
shipped boards it seems) will have to pay the posting themselves. |

Terra Soft wouldn't sell Teron CX boards with the buggy Articia. Alan OTOH gladly ships the buggy boards he's got in stock (he promised not to charge people until shipment, remember. Gotta get the boards shipped. Good old Alan.) instead of telling his customers what's going on, sending the buggy ones back to Mai and wait for new ones. Customers with buggy boards get the fantastic offer to exchange them for another model whenever that might be available after paying the difference in price + shipping/handling.
Thanks Alan!
"E-mail virus *ATTACK*"? That's about the most hilarious excuse I've heard! This is supposed to be a computer shop, right? A "virus attack" that "knocked out their internal systems" for TEN F-CKING DAYS? What a retard.
Could someone please clue poor Alan in on some elementary technical matters?
You don't f-cking click on unknown attachments in e-mail.
When you get e-mail viruses/worms like nimda etc., it's not an "attack", it's other equally clueless people who have been infected and have your address in the Outlook addressbooks.
You simply do NOT run Outlook on production systems.
You have a firewall.
You have antivirus software.
These are things that even nice_old_lady@aol.com knows.
He bundles bandwidth usage of 20 GB/mo into this imagined "attack"? So someone ran a script to wget his entire site for a month. Let's see, right now I get 300 kB/s from eyetech.co.uk (doesn't seem so bogged down by evil script kiddies to me...). Let's say I scripted a DoS attack. That would make 24.8 GB EVERY DAY, or 741.5 GB downstream in a month!
I'd say 20 gig in a whole month is pretty humble usage for a site that's been featured in Slashdot articles/comments, OSNews.com and just about daily on every Amiga related site I can think of!
(Doing some wgetting here, please don't report me to Abuse, oh mighty h4x0r 4l4n...) Ah, every visitor that merely loads the front page, checks out the "AmigaOne" pages and looks at the pictures of the Terons will have DLed 1.5 MB.
Yeah, 20 GB/mo is pretty damn moderate - and this would apparently be BOTH "legit" and "script kiddie" bandwidth! And I'm sure it's no problem for Clara.net (which seems to be hosting www.eyetech.co.uk) to handle. Oh, I see that Clara.net includes 30 GB/mo in their 70 quid a month hosting package.
But I'm sure your ISP will tear that extra bill when they see in their logs that it was one malicious individual in the World-Wide Anti-Eyetech Conspiracy that fired his 28.8 Modem Of Death at poor Alan's site.
Care to give us the IP of the evildoer?
In summary: "BULLSHIT", Alan! ;-)
We're all so grateful to Amiga Inc for recognizing your excellent customer service, business ethics, technical know-how, code of conduct and well-tested high-quality products. You really deserve that license you invented, you really do. Thanks for protecting us braindead AmigaOS users against the scum of the earth, the shady cowboy outfits like Terra Soft. |

During this time, I didn't do any moderation and things have gone (and are still going) from bad to worse. Now, I'm wondering more and more whether it is worth the time and effort to get rid of all these pathetic attempts at trolling and/or making some competiting solution look bad at all costs that are required to make ANN a civil place again.
And to answer your accusations; no, ANN has not been "bought", and neither have I.
I think it's funny how a number of Amiga ("the name") supporters all feel a sudden need to tell me how they are personally disappointed with me just because there happen to be more and more postings that question their solution of choice.
(And come on, I just read Alan's posting - how can anyone NOT question a company that is supposedly developing a next generation Amiga and yet can't even handle emails any self-respecting system administrator could get rid of in about two minutes, or who are apparently hosted on a server that only has 20 gigabytes of bandwidth allowance a month? And the same applies, if some individual is constantly loading their page and taking up bandwidth, why not tell your network administrator to just block the IP?)
Anyway, I'm off again; spending time on other projects that are more rewarding than this... |

The WHOLE point of that post was that the Thendic posting was so badly written that it could be interpreted as the motherboard was all you got for the price as the mobo was called a "BetaTester" and the complete system was called a "BetaTester System". However, in the text they quoted the price of the "BetaTester" (which would be the motherboard) as "$/EUROxxxxx" (some high price) when they meant to put down "BetaTester System".
The article was a light-hearted stab at this, but considering the crud that so-called MOS supporters were posting at the time, I would have been quite justified in writing something that was 100% BS.
If I remember correctly, at that time the MOS camp followers were running a campaign of lies, but then came out crying whenever anything was said against their precious "Holy Grail".
So, no apologies from me for THAT article and I suggest you re-read it whilst imagining me saying it as a guest on "Have I Got News For You". :-) |

Hopefully not. If you where I would be pretty sad, because I was the person suggesting Bill Buck to actually pay for his advertising here (which he agreed was a good idea).

I think people are tired of the lack of moderation, when a liar like Lart are allowed to post this biased report as news (and as facts), something is wrong with ANN IMHO.
"Anyway, I'm off again; spending time on other projects that are more rewarding than this..."
Sounds like a good idea:-) Anyway it was "nice" to hear your view on this. I will keep in mind that you think "news" items like this one is ok.
We will see how "moderators" react when a BBRV/Genesi/Bplan/Phase5/Morephos news gets same treatment?

Lart is not a liar, 'cause what he posted are just _quotes_ of the alan's post, so if you think there's a liar to blame, that's Alan, not Lart.
Sure, he put some comments of his in the news, but he didn't twist facts. So, just get over it and understand that someone is trying to fool you, and it seems they are succeeding at it very well. |

No, it didn't read that way. Your attack article falsely claimed that
Thendic-France was charging exorbitant prices. You did this to discredit the

Exactly, I think its time for the website to undergo a name change to reflect the nature of it's content.
Pegasos = Teron in new form factor (uses the same chips and everything)
Morphos = AmigaOS wannabe (uses bits from AmigaOS to try and be AmigaOS)

It wasn't "false". Due to the way it was worded, it really was an offer you could refuse.
Besides, that's the reason why people like you and me put our names next to our posts - so we can be accountable. I never post anything that I'm not prepared to defend later, and I'm always prepared to apologise if I'm wrong - fortunately that's a VERY rare occurence!!! ;-)
>>No, it didn't read that way.
Yes it did. I think it was Alkis who commented on the unclear distinction between the "BetaTester" and "BetaTester System" as it was worded. Back me up on thsi Alkis!!! :-)
>Your attack article falsely claimed that

Noooo.... I quoted from their website and then suggested that they should fix it. It was meant to point out that Thendic make "typos" too as some MOS-fans love to crawl all over every Amiga Inc/Hyperion/Eyetech announcement and point out any mistakes. What's good for the goose...
>Your article had a smirking quality to it, but that doesn't make it

No, they don't. I'm a firm believer in "an eye for an eye". So, when my camp gets attacked by another then I feel the need to return the favour. Perhaps when you manage to pen in your trolls then there won't be a need for me to post so many articles.

No, you got it wrong, the point is that the Eyetech's AmigaONE is _just_ a repackaged Teron board, with a different BIOS: the *hardware* is the same, the whole board is the same.
The Pegasos, instead, is a completely different thing and has no relations with MAI. |

I also remember Chris saying that Hyperion or Eyetech (can't remember which) have now asked to run an advert, but he had to turn them down due to lack of space. Strange that, considering he made some extra space to run the Thendic advert and there seems to be plenty of space under that where another could go... Mind you, then Thendic and Hyperion/Eyetech will have to fight over who gets to go on top!!!
Personally, I think Chris Kemp does a good job with the site, it's just his henchmen (sorry, I mean Moderators) that upset the apple cart due to THEIR obvious bias (mind you, I've seen them try and do the right thing and still get attacked for it by the "censorship brigade"). All Chris needs to do is appoint a Pro-Amiga Inc/AmigaOne moderator to counteract the negative effects of the others. Someone to moderate the moderators, so to speak ;-) |

If someone asked me "Hey, will the new AmigaOS support SMP?" I would have answered the same as Lart did, because SO FAR nothing has been announced that makes it clear that AmigaOS4 will support SMP. If you build up a list of features AmigaOS4.x is supposed to have, and that list doesn't mention SMP support, then you cannot blame anyone for saying that AmigaOS4.x won't support SMP - or are you implying that whatever is not written in the list is potentially likely to be implemented and therefore everyone should just shut up because they've not got a clue about what AmigaOS4.x will be?
> I wrote "potential liar" in my reply to him, but it has now been said that MP

Just the "potential liar" bit is quite amusing... I mean, _everyone_ is potentially a liar, but I'm not aware of any law - nor moral nor country's - that punishes someone for potentially being something which is either morally or legally not appropriate, like lying is.
You yourself are potentially a murder too, just like me. Everyone is potentially everything, so you DO realize that your arguments are moot, don't you?
> LART, why comment on stuff you know NOTHING about? Makes you look stupid.

November we have been mailbombed by viruses (of which 2 have got through
and completely knocked out our internal systems for 10 days) and large

from our ISP"
Sorry, Alan, but that is a pathetic excuse at best, and utter bullshit at worst.
Have you never heard of virus checking software?!
Have you never though to suggest to yotr staff not to click on suspicious attachments?
For goodness sake, Alan, you are supposed to be running a professional company, and you claim that a trivial virus has knocked your systems out for 10 DAYS? I'm sorry, but either you are bullshitting us, or your company is so technically incompetant as to be unbelieveable. Seriously.
As for your claim that someone is continually downloading files in order to push your server so you need to pay additional charges, again that is either bullshit or incompetance on yor company's part. It take seconds to contact your ISP with proof (you have proof otherwise you woudl not be making this claim) and ask for their assitance - blocking the IP address is trivial and woudl stop it. Also, simply blocking for a short time any IP address which makes repeated attempts to download a page within a given time will immediately stop your problem.
But then you know all of that, so why the hell are you making pathetic excuses, Alan?
Kinda casts a doubt over the accuracy of anything else you say - when one knows that the first part of your claim is bullshit, the rest is cast into doubt.
Why are all parties on all sides so keen on feeding us lies and bullshit all the time? Yes, ALL sides - AInc, Eyetech, Genesi - they are all as bad as each other :-(

So why do multi-million dollar companies from all over the world suffer these problems daily if it's so easy to avoid? Perhaps it's because the rest of us humble humas are not quite as perfect as you ;-)
You can tell your staff to do lots of things and I can guarantee that some idiot will do the opposite. At work, we're warned off against opening personal email attachments or surfing porn, yet people are regulary fired for doing exactly that.
At home, I use Norton Anti-Virus and I keep it up-to-date with automatic downloads, however my system still managed to get infected by a virus that appeared to disable/cripple Norton to go undetected until I removed it and ran a DOS scan prior to re-installing it on Windoze. |

Your just talking semantics here. The actual CPU on the module is the same (G3 or G4) The VIA chipsets are only like one level apart, and for the most part do the same things, with mostly the same pros/cons. Point is they are almost exactly spec for spec the same system (less form factor and the fact that Pegasos has firewire), yet the MOS camp continues to bash the AmigaOne board as "Just a Teron" as if that makes it some lowly offensive and unworthy piece of hardware.
That's actually kinda funny that this is the only thing they have left to pick apart. The MOS team are running out of things to condemn the AmigaOne for, now they start attacking the company and individuals, and "selectively quoting" to make things sound different than they did in their original content. Poor souls, grasping at straws. |

It was and is facts as far as has been announced (AmigaOS 4.0 will NOT be an SMP OS, it might be in later revisions). My knowledge about this is not worse or better than yours or anybody elses. It is what has been announced and said in public by the developers and managers of the AmigaOS 4 project.
> I wrote "potential liar" in my reply to him, but it has now been said that MP
> IS beeing worked on and that makes him a liar.
Again, SMP support will not be included in AmigaOS 4.0. Is that so difficult to understand?
According to various public announcements, AmigaOS 4.0 is supposedly in beta testing right now. Beta testing means that a COMPLETE product with all features implemented after the "feature freeze" is being tested in "real life" before the public release.
If a major and basic structural feature of the very kernel of an OS, like SMP support, will be added before the release of 4.0, then there can't yet be any beta testing by the definition of that term.
> LART, why comment on stuff you know NOTHING about? Makes you look stupid.
How funny you should say that... |
