We have just received confirmation that Genesi will be an exhibitor at the Cebit show in May in Sydney. We will be helping them with their stand.
We have also just started a Pre-Order page for those of you interested in ordering a Pegasos as soon as they are available in Australia and New Zealand. No money will be taken until the boards begin shipping.
The price for the Pegasos board with G3/600Mhz is set at AUD$899+gst.
The price to upgrade to a G4/1Ghz is AUD$399+gst, G3 must be returned to get this price.
The price for a Pegasos with G4/1Ghz is set at AUD$1499+gst.
As you can see those who order early get a $200 discount on the G4.
(Please note: gst is only payable by Australian residents.)
If you want one of the first shipment of boards we suggest you pre-order.
Orders will be placed on January 6th 2003.

Genesi is sure active in marketing and showing off their products. That kind of commitment makes the future look bright. And by then there should be some more information about the upcoming Eclipsis. That one is *really* interesting, IMO ...

Yep, you've got to give them 10/10 for that. The sad thing is that I've just found out that I'll be in Australia around the same time, but I'll be leaving to return to the States the week before the show. For some strange reason my fiance doesn't want to re-arrange our wedding so I can stay for "some bloody computer show", despite my best assurances that it would be an excellent venue for a honeymoon.... :-(

Ah, women have always been jealous of amiga's as they know the meaning of that word ;) I'm sure it's just that with your fiance too. You should reassure her by telling her that while your miggy will always remain as your no:1 girlfriend, your fiance will always be a good 2:nd ;) She would then realize that the 3 of you can coexist as a happy familyharem together.

With such a strong x86 user base in Australia, they would be lucky to sell any PPC boards at this price.

If you look at it only in terms of $$, even most of the years the Amiga was selling it was sometimnes hard to convince csutomers that they were looking at a different kind of computing experience. Most of us know that we had a way cooler system and were playing with the fun stuff.

Same deal here. An emerging platform that costs a bit more, but has the potential to be FUN! I am willing to spend a few more dollars to help make that happen quicker, because last time around the RIDE was exhilarating and changed my view of what computing could be. Maybe that can't be the same this time around, but I'm sure the ride is going to take me to some nice places without wearing me down along the way.

I hope these companies can survive long enough to escape from their PPC prison. I fear that only a small handful of people out side of the Amiga Community will buy either boards other then for ho-hos of running Linux on a none X86 based system. Why would I say such a thing? Because the value added (ie fun:) content of running MOS or OS4 on an expensive mobo/CPU is very limited, at best and none existant for the vast majority of computer users.

I don't know about Europe, but the people in the USA who will buy a Pegasos or Teron mobo will not be using it as their sole system. Their primary system will more then likely be X86 (and perhaps Mac, but I doubt it). The days of buying one and only computer system is long gone. Once this has been accepted, the arguement against going X86 because people will run Windows is no longer applicable (because they already *have* windbloat on another system).

PPC is fine for now, but a profitable future is X86-64 OS/HW.

Making future trend claims in the computer business is just stupid. This market moves way to fast. X86 has one big problem that they have yet to solve. Its too damn hot! And its getting hotter with every release. It could quickly lose favor to any chip that can give adequate performance with out a freon cooling unit. This is a growing concern and could easily effect future buying trends in the computer market.

PPC based CPUs are at least a tenth in heat dissipation as their x86 cousins. The reduced instruction sets in the RISC design (launched circa 1991) enable a more streamlined and efficient computing solution overall. x86 CPUs have not changed in their basic design since the 70s, and as such have gotten bigger and bigger, albeit faster and faster.

I wouldn't be surprised if x86 chips to meet a standstill when they hit the Ghz glass ceiling, sometime in this decade. By which time the cooler PPC based solutions will begin to appear more appealing and compelling to big business.

Remember that the computing world, and especially the PC market is an unforgiving environment. Especially were big business is concerned.

Expect customer loyalty to play a minor role when dealing with new software/hardware solutions by other players in the market. Remember that Sony was little known in the console world until the 90s and now stands almost unrivalled in sales in the 21st century.

No one can claim to see future computing trends, not even clairvoyants. But one thing is sure, even the most unlikely candidates can have their day. Be mindful of this as Amiga steps into the new millenium.
