Cloanto released Amiga Forever 5.1 today. Cloanto released today version 5.1 of Amiga Forever, the official Amiga emulation and connectivity package for PCs. New features include improved emulation components, new Amiga and Windows software (e.g. new Software Manager, Amiga Explorer, ReqTools, support libraries, etc.) and updated documentation and help files. For the first time since 1991, when the Amiga Narrator and Translator speech synthesis components were discontinued by Commodore (who reportedly was not willing to continue to pay a $1 per unit royalty), this software, which was part of the multimedia features which inspired several enthusiasts to buy an Amiga computer, is again available with the Amiga OS. Amiga Forever 5.1 includes both the original and fully licensed speech software in the preinstalled 1.3 configuration and a newer custom setup in the 3.1 ROM environment. As for all Amiga sound output, the emulation makes it possible to save the digital data, so as to preserve forever (maybe for use on an answering machine?) the original accent made famous by various "This is Amiga Speaking" demos.

Amiga Forever 5.1 runs on all Windows systems with DirectX 8 or higher (DirectX 9 has just been released by Microsoft). A cross-platform edition is available for Linux users. The downloadable versions costs $29.95, while a CD-ROM version, which includes additional Amiga ROM and OS files of historical interest (e.g. Amiga OS 1.0) and more than three hours of video footage in MPEG format, is available for $59.95. Upgrades are also available now. A free update from version 5.0 to version 5.1 will be available for Christmas. In the meantime, the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section at amigaforever.com has been reorganized and updated, and includes up-to-date information and tips concerning Amiga emulation, data preservation and cross-platform connectivity.

Nice to see that at least one Amiga company isn't trying to screw people over all the time. Keep it up Cloanto!

Cloanto, my trust rating: 7

Arguably, Cloanto are no longer an Amiga company. Maybe that's why your trust rating's so high. ;)

Interesting...
I wonder if the versions they are using for the "custom 3.1" installation are the old 1.3 versions of the libraries, or the much improved versions that became available with AmigaOS 2.0 (and were removed in 2.04 I believe, or maybe in 2.1, I forget).

Thanks to Cloanto for continuing to improve on this impressive collection of software. They have truly managed to add value to the Amiga emulation community and the constant new releases with new stuff of historical value continues to impress me - not to mention the fact that everything is nice and licensed.

I think it is great to have a CD and an emulation environment that allows you to easily store and cherish some of the fond memories of Amiga computing.

/me making a mental note to upgrade my 2.0 Amiga Forever setup one of these days...

Thanks Cloanto and good luck for the future!
