If they did care about simple fines one should think they would have stopped those practices by now.

Actually, the USA does have enough oil to be completely self sufficient. We would be paying European levels for gas, but we could do it. The problem with domestic oil production in the US is the cost of getting the oil out of the ground is not economical feasiable with current pricing levels. Jack it up to $5 or better per gallon, we can tell the Middle East what they can do with their oil.

I look forward to my next new car (I'll get a used on to replace the one I have now), Honda fuel cell car. Hope they are working out the bugs during the next few years as their production model of the FCX are sold.

There is no doubt that the U.S. benefits from trade just like any other country.
It's simple economics. And many of us here in the U.S. prefer Japanese cars. It
wouldn't be a great country if I couldn't make that choice. But when it comes
to middle eastern oil there are too many strings attached.

My solution is for the U.S. government to stay out of the business of foreign
AND domestic oil production. Let the free market work it out.

You mean like AOL (AIM) and Mirabilis (ICQ)?
That's normal in this industry.
Merry Christmas.

You *do* know that most Hondas sold in the United States are largely *built* here, don't you? I mean, since you've all got a handle on the way things are in the U.S. and all.

Just checking. Yeah. That's pretty much what I

>America (US) has all the natural resources it needs to self sustain, it doesn't need others, cept to get things at a lower price than what it can get from itself.

>This is the very core of the US.... and why some outside see the US as the great white satan......

If you think people hate your country because it's rich and powerful, you obviously don't understand the world you live in.

Go to the middle east, and ask people what they think of USA, they will tell you they like McDonalds, they like Coca-Cola, the NBA, your movies, etc... but they HATE the way you treat them by supporting dictators, supporting countries that opress them, using double standards when you deal with them and others,...

Oh and by the way, it's not only people in the middle east who feel that way, many people in Europe have the same feeling, the only difference is that they are 3rd party, they watch your behavior towards the middle east and are disgusted, they're not angry simply because they are not victims (yet) of US bullying.

I agree with you.
It's not the United States perse that cause disgust, its the double standards.
If you're going to police the world you should treat every state that crosses the line the same.

So .. by that token ...

All the franchised McD's & Coca Cola outlets around the world are NOT American then ??

Of course they are ... I don't know the "ins & outs" of the franchise agreements, but I bet "Head-Office" (America) gets ITS cut.

btw.

Just like Honda in the states.... We have Nissan & Sunderland ... Toyota & Derby.. etc.

They ( The Japanese) would NOT be here if they ( Head-office ) could not make a profit out of US !! (meaning US and U.S & Europe & anyone they can earn a bob from.... Same as ANY business with export markets).

Btw.. I really would like to see the American reaction (street level) to having to pay Euro prices for fuel.....

I remember the furore in the 70's when ..Shock-Horror.. Gas prices went up by an Horrendous (read ..Joke) 50 cents a gallon.

Try paying around $2.40 for a gallon of gas. And remember to do it with ..

A) A smile on your face..
B) Willingly ... Maybe not the right word. but .. whatever !!

No... As before .. There would be "blood on the streets" because of it.
