New version of Jabberwocky : Comment 1 of 16ANN.lu

Still completely bugged here.

First, it doesn't work when mailtext.mcc isn't installed but it doesn't complain either, so it looks like it's working, but very badly.

Then chat messages are received as "single" messages.

Then there's a lamp next to the server in the roster here, and I'm told it's not normal. There are no lamps next to the contacts in the roster, only mail icons when a message has been received. I can't add a name to a contact in the roster->information menu (it's not remembered).

Once I selected a contact from whom I had just received a message, selected roster->chat, then wrote a line in the chat window and another chat window opened with the chat line I had just typed in it... w00t.. chatting with myself, how exciting.

etc.

Definitely unusable here !

if you think you can do better, go right ahead, Im sick to death of reading such neggativity around all the news sites lately. I for one am just glad Jabberwocky is here and works, it allows me to talk to my windows using friends who insist on using MSN.

also if you read the guide, you should always read the requierments before you use something it clearly states you need mailtext.mcc... also the bulbs etc and the fontface of your contacts tell you if they have subscribed, are they working, are they away etc... people just love to have a good moan dont they. Im seriously concidering not reading any amiga related news sites for a while, they are all so depressing.

Jabberwocky uses Iksemel which does most of the jabber stuff, so its not as much original work as you probably think it is.

The GUI must have taken a bit of time to do, along with the sound and documentation. I'm not too bothered how much original effort went into it, I'm just thankful someone put the effort into it so that when I am using my Amiga I can still chat to friends.

It works, and for me it works fine.

jep, bash every programmer that uses gpl source in their amiga programs
and tries to open up the possibilities of using all kinds of stuff
thats standard on other platforms :)

and i guess you have to adapt the source to work with the amiga environment
and the gui ?

if you have problems, why not goto http://groups.yahoo.com/group/amiga-jabberwocky
and help the developers fix your problems ? :)

Does anyone know if it works in AmigaOS/XL yet? I miss being able to chat on MSN and Yahoo with my Amiga.

Hi !

JabberWocky does work fine, but it is not very easy to setup and Stan
noticed some interesting points that can be improved.

....what is the point of making this comment in a news comment page?

This sort of information is FAR FAR better being emailed direct
to the software author.

I, for one, have never read Amiga news pages for bug reports
on my software. why should other authors?

do coders and community a favour and email software authors about their
bugs and/or issues.

Over here I can only get icq to work. I've discovered that some servers are friendlier
towards jabberwocky than others, which server are you using?

I don't know, it still doesn't seem to work on my AmigaXL system. You know, the QNX Amiga one? Has anyone gotten it working? The TCP/IP stack doesn't work well with some internet software.

I use jabber.at. It works fine with ICQ, MSN, Yahoo.
