ViewISO is a TrueType font viewer using TTEngine. Now with ARexx port and commandline interface it can be used as TrueType viewer in filemanagers. Download it here. ViewISO is a program designed for viewing ISO-8859 charsets using TrueType Unicode fonts. It can be useful to check if a TrueType font contains glyphs for given charset. On the other hand you can see how some exotic glyph looks like. ViewISO requires MUI and TTEngine installed.

Changes from version 1.0:
- ARexx command 'LoadFont' (script for filemanagers included).
- 'Load' button.
- Accepts font name as a commandline parameter.
- Serious memory leak fixed.

I wonder if anyone would mistake ViewISO for an application that views CD images? Over here, ISO is the common name for a CD image. An example would be: http://www.winiso.com/

But really, ISO stands for the international standards organisation: http://www.iso.ch/iso/en/aboutiso/introduction/index.html

If these programs are based on Freetype, why do they not display Type
1 fonts as well as Truetype?

If they could handle both, the library might be useful for improving
the display in Pagestream. (Once shearing is done.)

For output to Postscript or PDF, Type 1 fonts are less trouble, in my
experience.

In reply to Comment 1 (darth X):
"ISO" stands for ISO-8859. ViewISO is able to display all ISO-8859 charsets (if loaded font contains needed glyphs).

FreeType has modular design, modules can be added or removed before compilation. TTEngine hasn't (and won't) Type1 font support, this module has been removed. TTEngine is *TrueType* font engine.

I have not contacted PageStream author directly, but I know that he need:
- affine transformations,
- TrueType to Type1 conversion,
- unscaled metrics access.
The first is planned, the third not likely, the second is definitely out of scope of TTEngine.

You are living in the happy ISO-8859-1 encoding world. Type1 fonts make a lot of troubles with non Western Europe languages. The only method to have all the acutes, graves, dots, cedillas in place is to embed used fonts into PS or PDF document (this is the PageStream way of creating PDFs). TrueType along with Unicode is a remedy for all these troubles.
