"Jack Me" writes: Amiga have added a small update to their site.: Jan 4, 2003 - Amiga Inc. would like to apologise unreservedly for the delay in getting the T-shirts out. We have received all the orders from the dealers and no blame should be attached to the dealers for the delay. There are several reasons for the delay and we are working on trying to get these remedied as quickly as possible. We hope to have everything sorted out in the next few weeks.

I'm really intrigued to find out what the "few problems" were with producing the T-Shirts. I could've walked into a T-Shirt printing store yesterday with a disk containing the image I wanted and walked out with a bunch of shirts all within an hour.

As individuals we can easily get T-shirts printed. Companies don't
work this way. They have to go via "official" channels and often the
invoices, deliveries, quantities, qualities, etc, are not met. Anyone
who has worked for a manufacturing company will have experienced
delays for the most ludicrous reasons that could be fixed by someone
walking down the road for five minutes.

They need to wait until all T-Shirts are being handmade knitted by chinese 20cents per hour employees :)

Specially knitting the AmigaINC logos inside the standard T-Shirts takes them ages.

From an Update in November:

"we have broken up the company into two separate units. We have the
desktop team focusing their attention on the AmigaOne and OS 4.0, and we have the Mobile Team who is focusing
their attention on Amiga Anywhere and the content creation and distribution on the various products and platforms
that we support."

They have not said who is in each unit, but this message would
presumably come from the head of the Desktop unit, as the "club" was
for AOS 4 buyers. AFAIK fleecy is the only English person in Amiga
Inc.

So AInc cannot even manage the simple task of getting some T-shirts printed and shipped out?

Oh for crying out loud.

How fecking useless does a company have to be in order not to be able to even get a bunch of T-shirts printed?

And we are supposed to pin our hopes for the revival of the Amiga on this bunch of useless clowns?

*shakes head in disbelief*

And no, the excuse invented by our cowardly anonymous contributor is not valid - if AInc cannot even manage something as trivial as ordering a few hundred T-shirts, then how the hell are they going to cope with anything more complicated such as REAL PRODUCT?

Oh well.

Well, given that they need to do around 1000 (IIRC) it would be cheaper and easier to get them printed.

What logo is going on it again? They probably found that they sent the logo to the printers and it used too many colours, looked crap when printed out at the required size and so the delay is because some poor sod has to go and resize the picture and then touch it up by hand ;)

It still is to be seen if Inc. has any real intention of giving people the
shirts, coupons, newsletter, and pre-sold OS 4 they paid for. But I must say
at least they haven't dug themselves in deeper by blaming Osama bin Laden
like they did last time. And communication is a good thing.

C'mon there is NO excuse for not having these T-shirts made a LONG time ago.

I have worked for a manufacturing company (in the textile industry - H2O sportswear) and I know deadlines can and will be broken, but not if you order a small quantity of 1500 t-shirts. Problems arise when you order 15K+, the far-east companies allways accept the orders well knowing that they cant meet the deadline :-(

Anyway a t-shirt is only a dollar or two (incl. 1-color print), so it's not like it gonna cost Amiga a fortune, It will be much worse with the 50$ discount...

Not enough there to tell. It's possible that an American used that spelling,
although the "z" is more typical over here. I wouldn't read anything into it.

"We're broke" is an absolute excuse for almost anything. It's lame and cheap
and calls for the response "why'd you take my money in the first place then"
but it is still a valid excuse.

Now as for your comment that they could make the shirts for a buck or two
apiece, that is really underestimating it, and there are shipping and
packing costs to deal with too.

No I did not underestimate it, I know the prices of a lot of the far eastern companies and you can get a pretty good t-shirt for $2....

Offcourse I wasn't talking about the total price incl. packaging, shipping etc. Just the t-shirts incl. a 1-colour print, don't remember what a multi-colour logo like the one they choose would cost (but not that much more, depending on size).

I tend to agree.

Situation:

A VC-funded company with loads of failed promises in their baggage takes preorders for products that are not theirs and not under their control.

It was not specified (at least not initially, the usual subsequent and incremental "clarifications" were necessary) WHICH products that were offered in the coupon deal. A Teron mobo? A computer system built with a Teron mobo? A copy of AmigaOS for Amigas (CS/BlizzPPC)?

It was not specified what the PRICE of the products is/will be. My guess it's gonna be exactly $50 more expensive than it would've been without this scam... ;-) Great savings, and nobody will ever know...

It was not specified WHEN the products will be available.

The "raffle" was outright fraudulent and totally incredible. If we sell a million coupons we'll raffle a trip to Mars and an "Amiga cellphone", or something...

Then it all morphed into a company fanclub membership or something. Nothing was said about what t-shirt the suckers would get would look like, nobody even bothered to ask for sizes. Again, there was no word on when these would be shipped. Then the suckers were to design the t-shirts themselves... Then it morphed into "market research" for how many Teron boards Eyetech would order. Then Bouma stepped in and advertised it to the outside world as "helping the platform" and general charity.

No, I can't say I'm feeling sorry for those who bought this.

Congrats, ainc, to a successful fundraising. Too bad you suffered losses in Goodwill Capital, but that has never seemed to bother you.

Well, real machines _have been_ delivered, newer versions are due to be released at the end of the month (if they will get the G4s?). The only part missing is OS4, which have allmost nothing to do with Amiga Inc. Thats why we have patience and still wait for it.

Well, I think this is rather sad. I can only think that they got whatever image was chosen originally, went to the t-shirt printers and were told "That many colours? That'll be $5 a shirt" and are having to colour-reduce the logo.

Dammit, the best logo would be a white and red AMIGA logo on a black t-shirt, perhaps with a boing ball. Not some frickin' michaelangelo.

Although I would be more willing to wear the michaelangelo... :)

If the logo is already low on colours, then I don't know what the problem is... are they waiting for "budget t-shirts ltd" to get through a backlog or something?

Ok, so I am to blame, since I "joined the club". However, at the time I signed up, I was sure (as I could be) that OS4 was imminent, that I'd be able to put my $50 towards it, and in addition I'd get newsletters/t-shirt, and more importantly, feel that I was contributing in some small way towards the future of our platform.

How could I know how it would turn out? Of course, I know better now, and I'll never trust Amiga Inc again. But is it fair to place all the blame on the club members for placing their faith in a company that, at the time, looked to be doing most things right? Suppose nobody had joined the club? Would there even be an OS4 at all? I doubt it.

Anyway, thats all in the past. My Pegasos and MorphOS have been ordered, and I can't wait for them to arrive. The new "Amiga" does exist, only it doesn't have a boingball on it, it has a butterfly. :)

The two things are completely unconnected. AInc have no money and no resources for developing an OS, that's being done by Hyperion as and when they can.

Money you sent AInc went to AInc. Neither Hyperion nor Eyetech saw a dollar of it, in fact they don't know anything about it except what you know - ie Bill McEwen is still ripping off customers. They won't speak out against it because if AInc goes under the Name is worthless and they'll both lost any chance of getting their money back.
