This is very cool :) I`m going to install it on my A600 as soon as I get my new HD I have ordered (I could do it also with a floppy disk but I prefer waiting for the HD)

I`ll have my personal webpage in my miggy :-) long live ADSL!!!:P

Thanx Carls for this....you have no idea how much fun ive had with this server..

have you updated the unescape routine, to check for hex 0D and hex 0A and not convert these, as they will be converted to linebreak and it won't work with text input forms...

I was thinking of starting over again with my forum, it would be nice to
use text input forms, instead of the single line input :)

great! I'll put up a link soon on our 'amiga webservers' page (http://www.amigau.com/c-networking/webservers.htm) to you.

Arexx webservers work great and use almost NO ram or CPU, our main site has been using arexx-webserver (http://www.amigau.com/arws.lha) for over 2 years without incident and no downtime (barring server maintenance that had nothing to do with the webserver program).

A600's, if they have LAN access an accel. and a HD, aren't bad little webservers - for the first year our site was online, we actually had one doing the download stuff, until I consolidated everything onto the main A2000. It worked fine, also without incident.

Crazy guys...

Anyway, what about security issues? With the Amiga's wide-open FS, isn't it vulnerable to malicious requests through such a server?

Yes, this is true of any server used on the Amiga, but after a quick scan through the code, I can't find any specific restrictions on what is accepted.

This looks like a great reason to get a network card in one of my Amigas.
What are minimium sytem requirements ? I see a few folks are using the Arrex Web Server in rather low spec machines like A600 /A2000 . What is the recommended system (if any) ?

In reply to Comment 7 (Gregg):
technically yes, but you can minimize a lot of that stuff with:

1) turning off services in Miami (UDP, FTP, etc.) - the gui is so flexible and user-friendly, after all - I *only* have mine set up to deal with HTTP on port 80, that's IT.

2) using a firewall - remember those? You can use the one in MiamiDX or if you are protecting an entire network and you don't want to use your Amiga as the firewall (especially if you only have one Network card) then just get a hardware firewall or one of those cheap routers from LinkSYS, etc. and set up NAT/a subnet

3) set your file permissions to 'read only' on the webserver - yes, this isn't Unix-level file protection, but it's the next best thing.

In reply to Comment 8 (Politikill):
I can't speak for others, but the amigaU website runs on an OS 3.1 A2000/060/50 with 64mb RAM, not that it's ever usually using more than about 2mb RAM for serving up the site, arexx is small, efficient, etc. - just like an Amiga. :)

When I was using an A600 to serve up files over a year ago, that computer has an OS3.1 030/50 with 32mb RAM, again, hardly using any of the RAM.

I haven't tried on a 'stock' 68000, even though i have meant to - I imagine it still wouldn't be too bad, if you had enough RAM for miami, etc. to run on - note that unless you have an accel in most of these machines, putting RAM in them isn't easy because the older RAM-only cards don't hold very much at all, comparatively speaking.

When I was testing Amiga Apache, (which kept locking up on me and so I gave up for the time being) it was just as fast as ARWS but it required a lot more RAM, because you have to start up at least a few 'child' servers to handle incoming requests - you can't do it through INETD the way you can with ARWS, because it would whack the server within minutes on any decent traffic. While it worked, it worked very fast, though.

I would suspect with Apache, though, that since it has way more 'power' to use for webserver purposes than ARWS, it also leaves open the door for more hacking opportunities, too, so security is even MORE of an issue.

Hi Cato! ;)
No, sorry, I haven't fixed the URL-unescaper.
I guess I'd have to release an update, then :-)

If anyone could find a possible exploit in the server,
please feel free to report it!
