All systems & softs need translators, especially on Amiga platform... ;)

Not really a News ;)

In reply to Comment 1 (Jedi):
To quote ANN.lu

"Please post news, rumours and announcements"

It's an announcement. It's an announcement asking for effort. It's an announcement asking for effort in translation.

Doesn't HAVE to be news to be featured.

I'm not picking up on this comment specifically, but often readers complain about an item which they perceive to be a non-news item. That maybe because it's not - but it doesn't have to be 'news' to be relevent.

I'm certain I'm not the only person who will have picked up on this.

For most projects, translation isn't carried out
until in the later stages...

This could be a good sign.

Well ofcourse everyone one is stacking up in lines to do this, after all ben Hermans has got a trackrecord of great payments:

"Ben Hermans/Hyperion wrote on 24-May-2002 08:50:30: The only reason why OS 4 is going to happen at all is because there are some 30 dedicated developers slaving away for minimal to no compensation."

So if you speak some non english language, like to slave away and don`t care about not getting paid for work, suite yourself. All sensible people stay clear :-)

Remember that word? 'Good'?

Now that my Amiga has been connected to the web again,I'll seriously consider
helping with this translation business.

Not sure how to take this, even with a smiley at the end.

I didn't realise that translators would get paid for this project.
I would have thought getting the "best OS in the world" in your
native language would be enough payment for most people.

If they get paid, what's the going rate ? I'd do Thai but I don't think
they'd support Thai fonts, from what I've read of the feature list.

btw, for those who didn't already know: ATO is a non-profit organization.

Has anyone tried to join ATO recently? The form I filled in seems to be broken..

It all depends on how addicted to AMIGA you are, if you are an extreme AMIGA head, then you, even pay to get my name up on development list, I don’t think I in no situations will ever be part of project this large for free, most common folks needs an income for the family economy. :D

Hobby projects in free time have no drive, they only progress when ever you like to do so, there are no bosses hanging over you shoulder and you probably won’t do it, if it where not fun to do so, when you do them!

What the heck...if someone can code an utility for OS 4, then why I couldn't make a translation for it? It really is not about money.

NOTE.
I where speaking in general terms in comment 18, not about translations specific.

If it is not really about money, do you have the time to do so?
And do you like to translate documents and buttons?
Do you need OS4.0 in your native language or do you feel comfortable with default English?
Are you held up with otter projects that take all your energy and time?
Are you an good translator?

?:-)

If you answer all this questions correctly I can’t se no reasons way you should not do so!

:D

I don't have time but I will do it anyway :)
Translating something is an interesting challenge - though it gets boring 'til end. I have translated Payback which was a hell of a job I think. So much sentences and large documentation. I don't know if I'm a good translator, you have to ask someone else.

English is OK but Finnish would feel a more like home I think. It's nice to help fellow Amigans and it usually beats the homework anyway :)

funny, trying to join ATO using mozilla didn't work, but it worked fine with IB2.3. Or, there was some sort of trouble yesterday.. weird, anyway.

...if YOU'RE the one doing the tranlsation, then obviously
you're not to be worried about the app being in default English...
what you ARE doing, by translating, is helping other people
in your native country ..who might NOT be able to read English
to use the OS/application/utility.

huge hand of congratulations and thanks to the >70 people
who are actively translating!

It`s very bad practice to do something for free for a commercial company.
