It not the emails 3+ a day, sprouting crap that bother me, Or usally the adverts on the site calling me a fag.

Its the continued threats of legal action for Defamation, and Slander are the main reason that its come to a head today. Usally by people I ban for mis-using the site.

Twice since christmas and three times in december I've had people threaten to take me to court.

Why should I have to go through the stress and waste my money on something I now very clearly get nothing from.

Perhaps one day this market will come to realise just how much it has lost because of the hostile attitude of far too large a minority.

Mark, you worked your arse off for the good of this community, and most people do recognise that and are grateful for it. It's just a shame the morons are louder.

Well, as I recall certain people were selling pirated cracked versions of Amiga software (expensive stuff like ImageFX and PageStream) on Amibench.

After receiving some complaints from people who'd been scammed, Mark quite rightly "outed" them on Amibench and printed their email addresses so that people would know not to buy anything from them. They took offence to this and started bleating about "slander" and "deformation of character" etc.

So, Mark removed the information. Now he gets abusive emails and comments from people saying that he allows Amibench to be used as a site for selling pir8 software! Unbelievable!

Well, I hope theyre happy now as the community has lost the best site for selling and buying Amiga hardware.

This is like a certain channel on a certain I R C network used to be. Secretly they operated a nice little scheme, yet publicly they banned people for piracy, or use of amiga emulators. An in joke that if you know someone, then its ok for them to be 'illegal' but if you don't know someone then thats 'bad' and they must be punished.

Not all the senior people were guilty of course, but in truth, the whole subject leads to problems.

As for Mark's site, he has done a good job for a long time and its sad its had to come to this. The idiots who have carried out the abuse are worthless cretins, but thats just my opinion

Would it be possible to add registration ? I think it would help.
Every one can sell pirated software even on eBay! They buyer doensn't know, and unless he uses a third party service, there's no way to secure the items. It's not your fault. Amibench only provides the service of allowing the info to be available.

My email has being going crazy, and so have all the Amiga news sites from what I've seen and heard.

Its sobering to see so many people are upset about what I posted on AmiBench.

I think I'm going to have to re-consider what I said. For the next couple of days the site will remain closed. Maybe permently I'm not sure. I dont know what else I can say. I have no intention of 'handing' over the site to anyone else to run because then its just not the same.

I've had many offers of help and support and my email is going crazy. I need a couple of days to think things over. After all today is my birthday

I doubt the people posting pirate stuff are actually a part of the amiga community. I expect they see it as an oputunity to make money off some warez that have got hold off.

A suggestion would be to only allow users to post sale notices with an amiga client rather through the website that will discourage some of these out for a quick buck.

Another thing is i gave up on amibench due to the lack of a feedback forum that ebay has. Unfortunately there are not that many bargains on ebay as it seems to be a sellers market to me- ok if you really want something but I tend to look for something tempting :)

I think some change needs to happen as things cant contunue the way they have done.

I sincerely hope so. Amibench is (was?) one of the best things about the Amiga "community". In all honesty, I haven't used it very often, but I'd certainly miss it.
