I understand that these adverts are tolerated because Total Amiga is "not for profit" (maybe the other Amiga mags should have tried that on towards the end when they were losing money)

However it's rude to stuff five paragraphs on the front page, especially when you can't even be bothered to get your own URL right. Hopefully the moderators will rewrite this article to be less obnoxious before most people see it.

Agreed. To quote:

> Submission guidelines
> 1. Do not use linebreaks in the summary, keep it to one paragraph.
> [..]
> 5. Linking is done via standard HTML markup, ie. <A href="http://anna.amigazeux.org">ANN</A> will link to ANN
> [..]
> 9. Do not announce new software / website updates without appropriate linking.

I changed the order around, and added HTML tags to the website URL.

Total Amiga is basically the worlds only print-based Amiga magazine...and as anyone who reads it knows, its very good.

certainly, the announcement that the new issue is out is news...and far better news than most of these 'our web site has a new logo on it' 'news'
items

I can't see any objection at all to the announcement. It's not as
though these guys were doing it to get rich.

Even for-profit products (such as FxPaint) are rare enough nowadays
that an announcement is news.

Yes, ok. Let's say I agree with the idea, but the wording might have been a bit too strong.

Hate to say this but it's not. It's the UKs only Amiga print mag but its not the worlds only. Amiga Acktuell (spelling?) is German and there's a few others out there I cant think of atm.

Facts straight and all that ;)

Germany actually has three printed Amiga magazines: Amiga Plus (excellent), Amiga Future (not that good) and Amiga Magazin (the living dead).

I think the explanation is that Mikey pasted the same promo to all those places which might find the news interesting.

This works OK for mailing lists and such but causes problems on sites that have custom posting formats (ANN is not alone in this). Some of these sites will have a news moderator who will trap the errors before they get published, but where there is no such filter they will get posted and look bad.

I'm sure a polite note to Mikey requesting special care when posting to ANN will achieve the required results.

In reply to Comment 10 (Bill Hoggett):
The problem is that everyone should really be aware of the specifics of the platforms they are used for marketing their products.

To just write one text and expect it to fit in all kinds of formats is just like using one of those "submit your site to 500 search engines" sites in the late nineties - it just doesn't work. It's always better to take an extra minute to consider your specific targets, especially if they can bring in so many visitors (and buyers).

This is not just targeted at this item in particular, it just happened that the issue was raised in here. I'd really prefer if people learned to do proper submissions (because in the end, it's to their own benefit), rather than me doing manual corrections (and possibly rewording or re-arranging) and then still tracking them down by mail to discuss any changes I made (which I normally don't do because it just eats too much time).

I would like to add that AmigaPlus is by far the biggest Amiga print magazine world-wide with several *thousand* copies sold each month. In fact, it is also the longest running Amiga magazine still in existance.

Then, there is Amiga Future which does not sell quite as well as AmigaPlus, yet has more readers than Total Amiga. It is released six times a year and can also be obtained with a *cover CD*.

Amiga Magazin, on the other hand, is a bit difficult to explain. It is not a stand-alone magazine anymore.

So yes, Mr. Anonymous is right. While I am sure it is a nice mag, TotalAmiga is far from being the world's only Amiga print magazine...

Amiga Aktuell is an online magazine (not a print mag), but it was closed a while ago.

So I got facts slightly wrong but I was right in principle - there are other print mags out there and just thought I should correct the fella who originally said that point :-)

Can I just say that I would sub to probably at least one of the other mags if it had an English version but as I can't read German there's no point!!!

Oh, and I believe France also has a print-mag out there too :)

(AND i'll be able to chat to some of the most active developers then too! 8-) )

"as anyone who reads it knows, its very good." . Have you read Brave New World, Alan, or was your implication that everyone should think the same intentionally funny :) I think Total Amiga is terrible by any journalistic standard and also contains terrible spelling mishtakes, irrelevant opinion and a writing style which makes Richard and Judy seem authoritative. But it's non-profit making you cry? Hardly a saving grace where so many mags (CU Amiga, Amiga Format) are not with us solely due to finances.
