Nice to see. Finally, I must say.

But the key is still OS4. I wonder how things are going there? Well, I guess we will all know at cebit, when it will be offically launched. That is *less* than a month away now, so it won't be a particular long wait. And that will be interesting!

IMO: the most important news there is the 2M of L3 cache on those G4 CPU cards. It's something that I did not believe would happen anytime soon.

What is the Mhz of the DDR L3 cache??? (IMO: even as slow as 266Mhz would be ok for the 800Mhz CPU)

Any pictures of the new CPU card???

(The new XE board already is a lot better looking than the original Teron)

Gosh! I bet they're kicking themselves over all this confusion as to whether "launch" implies release or not!

For the marketing-innocent :

"Launch" means marketing; it does not mean availability of the "launched" product, it does not imply a "release" date, it doesn't even imply that any prodct at all will ever be released.

"Cahm down, cahm down..."

</brookie>

That announcement has always meant nothing about availability; if I were cynical enough, I would say that the primary intention of that "launch" statement was always to distract the clamouring hordes by making it look like a release data had been set...

I assumed most people at the time realised the implication : "The release will be later than the launch, although if we cross our fingers and wish really really hard, it might just be before it."

Now it appears that's just another to add to my long list if incorrect assumptions. Ah well...

Certainly a lot of A.org posters were assuming as you said, that this would mean AOS4 being available before CeBIT, and then a public announcement, something of the form "Look world! AmigaOS 4 is here, don't you wish you had been a proper loyal Amigan like these guys?"

In fact, if we apply maximum cynicism, they can fulfill the "promise" as follows

1. Any AInc/Hyperion/Eyetech employee goes to CeBIT
2. Stands in a corner somewhere not too visible
3. Says "The AmigaOne and AmigaOS4 are launched" quietly
4. Leaves or looks around rest of show

Last time I checked on the CeBit site, and did a search on their search engine,
the names Amiga, Eyetech, or Hyperion did not show up...

Are they still going to go? I did note that they do offer the AO4 on their
"amigamall" part of their website...I don't think it was there before...It is
still "coming soon"....I sure hope so.

Does anyone have any confirmation from Hyperion or Eyetech or Amiga that they
will actually go to Cebit and demonstrate their "wares"?...If so, please
inform us...

"However we will not as of policy ship any product before we are
satisfied that it is fully functional - including an installable and
working operating system - other than to developers for testing purposes."

At least he's got a sense of humour! :)
(If he's not joking, then he's lying so blatantly that my eyes bleed)

BTW, what's with these so-called "developers"? He means the *paying customers* who *bought* buggy evaluation boards, without the intended firmware and without the OS that is supposed to be a prerequisite to rename the boards from "Teron" to "AmigaOne", right? Sometimes it sounds as if Eyetech actually developed anything, or employed developers (while the boards are Mai's, the firmware is the open source community's with some contributions by Hyperion, and AmigaOS is also Hyperion's).

Yes, please do....at the time of the announcement, Amiga, Inc. was trying to settle people down and saying, this does not mean the availability of the product will be delayed all the way until March....it can still be released on time, but the public 'launch' of the product is in March....

I said at the time, as this gets closer and closer to March, and the product is not released, these same comments will be re-interpreted to mean, the actual release will be AFTER MARCH.

People could not believe my cynicism...tonight I will look up those old posts, from many months ago, and post a link....

It was BEFORE, BEFORE BEFORE, WAAAYYYY BEFORE MARCH.....

they never said, after.....and they read the posts, and they had months and months to clarify.

Yeah, let's thank Alan for not shipping the Teron PX which is not yet in "mass production"! That's smart. Duh. ("mass production" as opposed to a few evaluation boards that people like Gall and Hyperion have)

I see. There is only one company legally entitled to be called "Amiga", so we may well drop plural. Apparently they are not on the Cebit exhibitors list. However, the company with the most-advanced-PPC-OS-running-Amiga-Software will be on Cebit, and that is what I wanted to say.

It has to be taken seriously, so offcourse Genesi does that. I never doubted their profesionalism on that matter (I am actually quite impressed by their apperance at all the diff. shows).

Amiga on the other hand might not have a product to show and would be wasting their money if they went to show a "work in progress" OS4. I expect them to visit diffrent shows just like Genesi, but not until OS4 is ready.

I would think Amiga would wait until OS5 to make a big splash. OS4 at the moment is only going to be interesting to a few of us.

And speaking of "Work in progress", have you seen MorphOS?

AmigaOS 5 is no more real today than the AmigaDE version of Final Fantasy or Mario64. It's not even as real as AmigaOS 4 was in 2001, when they had a scrap of notepaper and some verbal agreements with 3rd party developers.

Nice try, Robert. I don't know if you've ever been to a trade show before, but there are lots of "works in progress" at them. Some don't even exist except as displays. MorphOS may not be finished {like software ever is ; } but it looks good and allows one to run new and classic apps, and supplies much of interest to developers.

I think that *EVERY SINGLE SOLE* in the Amiga market expects an official launch of the Amiga One and OS4 on that particular show. And that has been the case since their announcement in November 19, 2002:

"With the AmigaOne now shipping and AmigaOS4.0 in its final stages of development and testing, the time has come to begin letting the rest of the world know the good news, that the Amiga is alive, well and ready to let the World have fun with computing again."
...

"The first of these shows will be the official launch of the AmigaOne and AmigaOS4.0, to occur at the CeBit show in Germany in March (and before anyone asks, this does not mean this is the release date for AmigaOS4.0, it means that CeBit will be the public launch of it). With the huge exposure and attendance that CeBit brings in, and being in Germany, one of the spiritual homes of the Amiga, we think this an appropriate and exciting venue."

Signed:
Bill McEwen and the team at Amiga
Ben Hermans, Hyperion
Alan Redhouse, Eyetech

Since then a lot of people have pre-ordered A1 mobos. Much because of that promise. Because they gave you a feeling that the long wait were coming to an end, and in only a few more months(tm) they would see the OS4 running on the A1. But since then there hasn't been a great deal of communication from those.

Maybe they are just late with their registration? I hope for their sake that they *will* be there and that they *will* make a public launch of the AmigaOne+OS4 combo. Because if they *don't*, they will be quite smoked in this community!

Stupid troll, how come my AmigaOne has DMA enabled then with no problems? The
fix was a few wires soldered on. They didn't feel the need to give those wires
