Genesi now has two software compatibility lists on the Genesi Support site. The first list, the Official List, contains software which has been officially tested by Genesi and guaranteed to work. The second, the Unofficial List, is where the community can let the world know what they have found to work and/or not work. All contributions are greatly appreciated.

Not that I'm against MorphOS/bPlan, the Pegasos, Vapor, or Voyager... but Voyager still has a few bugs to be worked out before I think it would be all that stable. So far I've had nothing but bad luck with Voyager on some of the web sites I've written.

When testing for html3.2 rendering I go for AWeb. When testing Javascript compatibility I go for IBrowse. When I just want to see if it looks okay on an Amiga browser, I open up Voyager and hope it doesn't crash. I'm even using the recommended MCP and MCC files as suggested on the mailing list but I still have problems with it. Perhaps Voyager is nice and smooth in MorphOS, if so, I'd like to see them continue the 68K to be on par with the MorphOS sources.

It is however impressive that Genesi has an Official Support Site, even though it has only just started to be developed. As an A1-XE/OS4 purchaser, I hope that AInc will be able to provide support like this.

Items of vital importance to me:
THOR
ArtEffect
Pagestream
(I suppose PPaint is out of the question)

Any MOS lover out there, do you know if these progs work?

Why do you think so?
PPaint is RTG aware after all.

in theory you only need to edit the config file (default startup aga, but the docs might reveal other soultions), dunno if its ascii tho...

Anyway this list has obviously just opened

there is the amigaone discussion gategory in os.amiga.com forums, but only very few A1 owner seem to visit that, I think Alan Redhouse has never been there.

Neither is Hyperion visiting those OFFICIAL AOS4 forums. Very stupid, IMO.

(I just started this list on last week.)

The design of those lists could be improved. I'm more interested in what is known to NOT work correctly under Morphos. The table should have a compatibility colum with a tri-state gadget:

EXCELLENT, MODERATE, POOR

Good to see that PPaint works, I didn't expect that. I trust that it actually runs quite fast, too, on a Pegasos with CPU-bound blitting routines? PPaint has been slow from the start, and could use any CPU power.

In reply to Comment 25 (Iggy Drougge):
The trick with PPaint on a graphics card is to deselect "15KHz video" and "Amiga blitter" in the settings. It runs very well on Amithlon. The speed increase is most obvious when you are zoomed in. So I would expect it to run well on MorphOS too.
MorphOS software compatibility list : Comment 27 of 35ANN.lu
Posted by Kelly Samel on 25-Feb-2003 17:57 GMT
Well, I have a few problems with PPaint under
Amithlon. Such as the palette colors not updating
when you slide the gadgets in realtime etc. Just
small irriatating refresh problems. I wonder if
MorphOS corrects these things?

I hadn't seen that before. The 68k emulator benchmarks are interesting - looks like MorphOS's Trance is around 70% faster than Petunia. Very impressive.

Note that these benchmarks can not be compared because Petunia benchmarks have not been done yet on top of the OS4.

In reply to Comment 29 (Lando):
..where did you get this figure from? I only ask as the current
Petunia public benchmarks were run on a crippled Phase5 card (ie
naff memory architecture, 68k interupts etc) whilst the Pegasos
is PPC only with SDRAM etc (of course, this can turn into another, yet
another I should say, benchmark squabble) so its best to wait until
OS4.x is released and THEN start comparing the two on ore 'similar' hardware

@Alan

Maybe from my website... ( www.lehtoranta.net/morphos/petunia/ )

Speed tests are from my A1200 running MorphOS, not Pegasos. It is benefit having fully PPC native operating system but in some tests (Chunkycopy and c2p) benefit is inexistant.

@others

Software compatibility list on my site needs still more testing. I.e. Personal Paint works but needs more investigating. But it is not possible until my system is in the usable condition.

However could be nice to know about problematic software on Amithlon and check if it works on MorphOS at all.

Punter..."A Web browser thats its... So all I can do

bbrv..."well not not realy as the browser is unstable and
doesn't work with most banks anyway"

Punter walks off

If you had actually read the website you had seen that the Trance results are
made on a BlizzPPC 603e/175MHz.

BTW: Some (very(!) old) results of Trance and the static emulation of MorphOS on a CybPPC 604/233MHz from Nov 2001:

Plasma:

Normal emulation: 2 fps
JIT emulation : 32 fps
Real 68060/66 : 11 fps
PPC native : 60 fps

RC5:

normal emulation: 14,220 keys/sec
JIT emulation : 455,897 keys/sec
Real 68060/66 : 198,528 keys/sec
PPC native : 749,972 keys/sec

I think it was a bad idea to publish this list as news before some
more titles have been added.. :)

(besides, I don't expect a lot of items on the "official" list, since
unless it's an in-house project, there might always be hidden problems
even when everything *seems* to work perfectly)
