Finaly - the next chapter of AMIGA-based AMIGA software piracy can begin. Down with all those rich AMIGA software-developers. They earn far too much money! Thanks SixK for soon providing the ultimate killertool to destroy this platform and any possible future. Thanks in advance and FINALLY R.I.P. AMIGA! Muhaha!

So, what is eDonkey?

In reply to Comment 7 (Iggy Drougge):
eDonkey is "file-sharing" software especially designed to eat up your bandwidth even if you yourself never use it.

If you have an eDonkey client, when you connect to the Net it scans any IP connections it can reach on port 4662 for someone with another eDonkey client running. They can then exchange files.

In the meantime, thousands of undirected scans on port 4662 are being made and your/my/everyone else's bandwidth is going down the dunny. Yes, I *mean* thousands. Every day, on your connection. Multiply that by thousands (millions!) of other conections being scanned at the same time.

I see the guy has an iFrance email account. He can't be far from me: can someone give me his address so I can kill him?

Good jod Sixk, keep going !!

A edonkey client is an important tool for actual Windows users and some were waiting for that to be interested in Amiga (like Messengers but Jabberwocky does also a great job).

If we want to make old Amiga users back, we NEED that kind of popular piece of software (I know lot of PC users that agree with me).

My PC, next to my Pegasos mainly work for eDonkey and video encoding (and for web site I can't reach on Amiga browsers) !

In reply to Comment 8 (anarchic_teapot):
It doesn't "scan all IP connections", it connects to IPs that are supposedly running an eDonkey client or server.

I can now share AOS 3.9/3.5 ISOs, Amithlon, Amiga forever 5, Payback, Ibrowse 2.3 and all the other Amiga warez thanks to this program.

Thank you and let the Amiga piracy begin.

i think you are wrong here..

to use edonkey, you have to be connected to an edonkey server, and the other
users connected to the same server can exchange files...

an edonkey client can't just make up the entire worlds IP addresses ?

I've been connected 24hrs a few years now, and i've never seen connections
to my amiga on port 4662...

Why don't you put the project on SourceForge? that way, you'll have loads of support.

eDonkey is one of the more popular means of piracy. and now it is available to the Amiga as well.

"But it is not for piracy, it is for filesharing" the pirates cry.

Hmmm. OK, take away all the pirate copies of software, the pirate copies of DVDs and CDs etc, and what are you left with? Virtually nothing.

In reply to Comment 16 (Keith Blakemore-Noble):
....i'm sorry, but its the USERS not the TECHNOLOGY that is to
blame. At some point users have to rip a DVD or CD and then place
it into a file-sharing directory to create the piracy.

if you do this, then you're a pirate. the program itself isnt the problem.

if you are a user who uses it to get movies, files, programs etc, then once again its YOU who are the problem. not the software. not the technology.

P2P has a place on the Net. the technology is good and is creating a new virtual-drive foundation. The future GRID systems will all use P2P technology. lets not blame the programs...thats the EASY cop-out.

what about CDWriting programs like MakeCD!?! my god! thats used for COPYING CD's!! piracy!! - its also used for backing up your HD and making safe second copies so you dont worry your original gets scratched up by your young nephew :-|

what about classic disk-copiers etc. yes, piracy! hmmm....also legal and safe backups... a were very handy for software authors with shareware before the Net.

as for these comments about 'now all the Amiga programs will be pirated' well, they could be already....its quite easy. you get the program and stick the files onto the PC sharer. there probably are a few s/w programs for Amiga already being shared illegally. i dont know, i've never looked. i've never wanted such things in that manner. I also believe theres nothing wrong with me getting MP3's and DIVX movies so that i can 'try before buying'. often
these days theres a lot of films that suck. if i watch a movie and its good i'll THEN go along and see it on the big screen.... if i get a new album and its good, i'll go out and buy it. in this respect the companies win. certainly they cant complain about my copies (which i delete if their naff anyway!!!) as , as a consumer, they wouldnt have got my money for their product anyway!

In reply to Comment 17 (alan buxey):
" ....i'm sorry, but its the USERS not the TECHNOLOGY that is to blame"

Indeed.

However, are you seriously telling me that you honestly believe that the vast majority of files shared under eDonkey et al are NOT pirate software, mp3s of commercial music, DIVX rips from DVDs etc?

Unless you can honestly say "yes" to that question, then you woudl have to agree that the vast majority of eDonkeying IS piracy.

Do you know that recording a movie on a VCR is illegal ? For me, DivX is like a video tape recording of a movie (I no longer have a VCR at home). And edonkey works for me like a VCR. I will never use it for Amiga software download.

For the GUI, why no leave the eDonkey/eMule app as a CLI tool. THen somebody else can provide a Arexx GUI (or whatever) to feed the donkey the ed2k:// urls. This is how the Linux version operates, and a nice PHP interface running on a local webserver works a treat for it.
