By recent discussions in various forums, IRC chats with wannabe AROS users and questions made on the AROS mailing lists, it appears that there's some confusion about where to get the official AROS-related files from, here I'll try to make things more clear.

For quite some time now, the AROS web site has featured a download page hosting links to the nightly snapshots.

That page has now been updated both in its contents and layout, hopefully looking nicer and more complete. Please use the files from that page to get a grasp of the AROS progresses, since they are built every night directly from the AROS CVS tree. Being untested, though, those files might contain unknown bugs or be broken altogether.

There's also the AROS SourceForge download page , which holds the official releases of AROS. Releases are made each time AROS reaches a new state of maturity, or when a considerable number of new features get implemented. Moreover, releases are tested on many platforms and are free of known bugs as much as possible.

Those are the ONLY official AROS download sites available at the moment, however Matt Parsons, a long time AROS aficionado (and sometimes an AROS developer as well ;), is kind enough to test once in a while the AROS nightly builds on a number of machines and make the relevant files available for download on his site .

That's all folks, enjoy!

Ok, I just tested the latest ISO (07.03.2003). Here is a small report:

.16 bit modes works now on Radeon7500

.cdrom:prefs/locale crashes (I don't get a guru/aros reset, the pc only hangs...)

Some remarks:

Some remarks:

.After opening about 4/5 demos, the mouse lags: has it anything to do with vesa ?
.I know it also happens on real Amigas: when a window is beeing dragged, every other windows are not beeing refreshed anymore...
=> Is there a way to easily fix that ? (I'm not asking for it now, I just wanna know if it can be fixed without huge changes...)
=> By the way, does anybody know if it also happens under MorphOS/ABox ?
.Why does CTRL+Win+Win only resets AROS and not the whole pc ?
.While AROS is resetting, the screen is not refreshed until the wanderer screen appear: this way, you don't even know AROS is re-starting ! ;)
.When I enable the backdrop function of Wanderer, the backdrop pattern dissapears

Hope it will help...

Regards,
Leo.

Press C key in GRUB bootmanager to get into grub console.
Then type

setvbe 1024 768 16

What output do you get? (VBE version, bpl, linear_bpl)

Can you try if this happens also with the floppy image?

I ... ehm ... asume this has to to with a semaphore being involved when software
mouse sprite is drawn. Intuition (input.device task)'s high task pri doesn't then
prevent it from having to wait for semaphores just as long as normal tasks.

Easiest "fix" is to run solid window moving tool (tools/commodities/opaque),
which unfortunately is still pretty slow with vesa driver.

Theoretically it would also be possible to have a non-blocking rubberband-window-drag.

- because this emulates the Amiga - ctrl-amiga-amiga three finger salute.

the PC has ctrl-alt-del hardwiredto reset IT - use that for PC things

Ok, I'll make a report when I find some time...

=> Is there a way to mount the cd drive when I have booted from floppy ?
(it seems cdromhandler is not present in aros boot floppy...)

I just type mound Mount CD0: in the shell... I'm sure there is a CD0: entry in the mountlist...

I'll have to check.
