This is just a friendly reminder to all regulars of the comments section that profanity, personal insults and postings that otherwise violate ANN's guidelines can and will be deleted. Today, I implemented code to allow Christope and Teemu to moderate comments, which should ensure stricter enforcement of the posting guidelines and eliminate some of the noise.

I'm also working on a "trusted user" system, that would allow regular visitors to authenticate with me and have their name or nickname reserved. This will be optional. Since this is still work-in-prgress, comments on this subject are most welcome - especially on how the authentication could work.

In reply to Comment 47 (Kjetil):
My point is: in 99% of all cases, it doesn't really matter who "SomeUser" actually is, as long as you can be about sure that it's the same "SomeUser" as last week. Any decent password system can do that, without credit cards, phone calls or anything. Password authentification has worked for decades (which is quite something given the age of computers as whole). What the **** would make all that effort worthwhile?

Just wait, in four or five years from now you aren't allowed to post anywhere unless your system is TCPA compliant, because unauthorized posting considered harmful.

Brave new computing world. Sheesh.

There aren't THAT many "prominent characters" posting to these forums. Perhaps it
would be a feasible idea for Christian to e-mail them on their official e-mail (so
that he is sure he is adressing the right guy), and have them reply with the name
and password combo they want to use (if they're interested at all)? Extra work for
Christian, but perhaps a reasonable scheme to use to get things rolling for now.

It's after all the impersonation of "officials" that are the most harmful.
