Zeoneo Limited is moving into the AmigaOS market with the acquisition of the exclusive rights to the noted and highly respected graphics application Candy Factory. See press release. Candy Factory is a program for creating professional looking graphics using bevels, glows, drop-shadows, bump-mapping, textures and lighting effects. With the minimum of effort you can quickly produce logos, titles, banners, headings, buttons and other similar graphics. Instant visual feedback of the adjustments made means the settings can be tweaked in real-time until you are completely happy with the result.

hahaha....good one :) i know the amiga marked is SMALL, but adding potentional
5-600 morphos users aint worth just thinking of porting it...
And AmigaOS4 isnt restricted to Amigaone either, CSPPC and BPPC users are
potentional buyers...

hehe.....forced to make a mos port.....

Recompile? Well, that depends if the MorphOS API's have the same functionality as the AmigaOS4 API's and then how compatible they are. A recompile would be easy enough if we were talking about an AmigaOS3.x compatible application, but we're not.

Neither the MOS team nor the AOS one made a full API replacement yet.
There are API *extensions*. Most extensions in MOS and OS4 conflict,
it shouldn't be hard AT ALL to port an application from one system to the
other. It could take from a week to (absolute max) a month.

Typical isn't it:)

"I myself think it will be for OS4 first, but as the sells will be poor, Zeoneo is forced to make a MOS port."

I'm not so certain the sales will be poor, depends offcourse on the A1 sales. I believe they will be quite good once OS4 is actually out.

"Or can someone recall an Amiga app which author is a millionaire these days? Now with this divided market, even LESS chances of good sells if it's for one platform only."

The market aint divided. There are sold max. 600 Pegasos's and if OS4 hits the A1 before the Peg2 is out I don't see any market left here for the Pegasos/Morphos.

"On the other hand, if they don't want my money and have it only for OS4, thats fine by me."

Ok.. :-D

>I myself think it will be for OS4 first, but as the sells will be poor,

How can you say the sales will be poor? No offence but, do you think they haven't done their own research? I'm not saying they will sell millions of copies, but they have made a decision based on what they know (and what they know is more than JoeAverage knows as they are developers of AmigaDE and in close contact with Amiga Inc. On top of that, I don't think developing a version for MOS, which is intrinsecally different, will increase the sales that much.

>Or can someone recall an Amiga app which author is a millionaire these days?

You're assuming that they're interested in becoming millionaires from a day to another. Some people do it out of passion and if they can get something back that's fine.

How can you recompile something you do not have the sourcecode for?
Rewritting it? Not practical for an application... Reverse engineering? Needs

Either they compile a MOS version, or it doesn't happen. And I will certainly
won't lose my temper cause one app is OS4 only, there are several MOS only

I discovered some flaws in the comment moderation system, so I'll fix these first; then I need to get around to setting up the password system (which will just be a temporary solution before I get around to writing something more elegant). I don't have a lot of things planned for this weekend, so I might get around to doing it. I guess it all depends on how much time I spend on the Mustang, which has developed some problem I have yet to diagnose.

There aren't THAT many "prominent characters" posting to these forums. Perhaps
it would be a feasible idea for Christian to e-mail them on their official
e-mail (so that he is sure he is adressing the right guy), and have them reply
with the name and password combo they want to use (if they're interested at
all)? Extra work for Christian, but perhaps a reasonable scheme to use to get
things rolling for now.

It's after all the impersonation of "officials" that are the most harmful.

Anyway, I am not sure why this has become an
argument. Zeoneo has mentioned releasing a
program for OS4. Many people want to see a
MorphOS version of this program too, including
myself, and we are just making it known to
ZeoNeo so that they can consider it. So once
again I ask that Zeoneo considers releasing
a MorphOS version of CandyFactory2. It's
very easy for a developer to support MorphOS
and OS4 so it makes sense...

The API's might be similar, but by all means not equal. There is backwards compatibility in the way that you can take an OS 3.x program and compile in on OS 4, but that doesn't mean that the reverse direction is simple. I assume, since you try to make yourself appear such an expert, you can tell me what for example the call "IExec::GetInterface" does? Or what ASOT_DMAENTRY means?

No?

This community alone isn't what neither Hyperion nor Genesi targets at. The real money (and the really big future userbases) will be in the convergence market; in STB's and embedded devices. If you go back and search in the archives you will see that the situation is the same for both companies. But there are lots of skilled developers of different kinds in the community, and therefore it makes sence to start here.

Indeed. But the announcement of the PegasosTwo itself shows signs of commitment IMO. I guess that some people was kind of worried for a while that there would be STB's only from now on when the STB's were announced, but then came the Peg2 announcement as a sign of the opposite.

Ooops, this is getting off topic. I would love to keep discussing the future of both AmigaOS and MorphOS with you, but we'd better stop before some more runs to take cover behind MikeB's skirt over at amigaworld.
